procedures.

TheSimradES38-18/200-18Cisa"two-in-one"combitransducerdesignedforsheryand
sheryresearchapplications.Itcontainsa38kHzsplitbeamtransduceraswellasa200
kHzsinglebeamtransducer.Bothoffer18degreesbeamwidthattheirnominaloperational
frequencies.Thesplitbeamtransducerisdesignedwiththreeseparatesegments.
Thetransducerisstreamlined,anddesigned
tobemountedunderthehull.Flushmounting
isnotrecommended.
Afairingmustbedesignedtotbetween
thetopofthetransducersurfaceandthehull.
Thefairingshallofferthenecessaryinclination
angle,andprovidespaceforthecableservice
loop.
Note
Thefairingmustcovertheentiretopsurfaceofthetransducerhouse.Supportingonlyat
eachendofthetransducermaycausedamagetothetransducerifsubjectedtoslamming.
Thetransducerhousingisprovidedwithtwoholesformountingbolts.Theseshallpenetrate
thetransducerfastenittothefairing.
Thetransducercablepenetratesthehullusingastufngtubeandacablegland.

Transducerhandling
Atransducermustalwaysbehandledasadelicateitem.Wrongfulactionsmaydamagethe
transducerbeyondrepair.
Observetheserules:
•Donotactivatethetransducerwhenitisoutofthewater.
•Donotliftthetransducerbythecable.
•Donotsteponthetransducercable.
•Donothandlethetransducerroughly,avoidimpacts.
•Donotexposethetransducertodirectsunlightorexcessiveheat.
•Donotusehighpressurewater,sandblasting,metaltoolsorstrongsolventstoclean
thetransducerface.
Transportprotection
Sometransducersaredeliveredwithacoverplatetoprotectthefaceduringtransport.
Letthisplatestayonaslongaspossible,butdonotforgettoremoveitbeforethevessel
goestosea.
Cleaningthetransducerface
Wheneveropportunityarise,forexamplewhenthevesselisdrydocked,thetransducerface
shouldbecleanedforshellsandothermarinefouling.

•Useapieceofsoftwoodoraverynegradeemerypaper.

Paintingthetransducerface
Anti-foulingpaintmaybeappliedtothetransducerface.Becausesomepainttypesmaybe
aggressivetothepolyurethaneinthetransducer,consultourlistofapprovedpaints.
Specialrulesforacousticwindows
Arctictankshaveacousticwindowsmadeofpolycarbonate.
Thesemustneitherbepaintednorcleanedwithchemicals.
Acousticwindowsmustnotbeexposedtodirectsunlight.
Approvedanti-foulingpaints
Thisisourlistofapprovedantifoulingpaintsforalltransducertypes.Alwaysrefertothe
manufacturer'sdocumentationanddatasheetsforacompleteprocedureandforrelevant

Theinstallationshipyardmustprovideallnecessarydesignandinstallationdrawings,as
wellastherelevantworkstandardsandmountingprocedures.
Ifrequired,thesedocumentsmustbeapprovedbythevessel’snationalregistryand
correspondingmaritimeauthorityand/orclassicationsociety.Suchapprovalmustbe
obtainedbeforetheinstallationcanbegin.Theshipownerandshipyarddoingtheinstallation
areresponsibleforobtainingandpayingforsuchapproval.
Relevantoutlinedimensionsandproductiondrawingscanbedownloadfromourwebsite.
MostdocumentsareavailableinPDForAutoCad(DWG)formats.
Procedure
1Basedonthevesseldrawings,thephysicalpropertiesofthehullandtheshapeofthe
transducerhousing,designtheinstallationhardware.
2Manufacturethehardwareaccordingtotherelevantproductionstandards.
3Mounttheinstallationhardwareunderthevessel’shull.
Note
Makesurethatthesurfaceoftheresultinginstallationissmoothandstreamlined.
Mountingscrewsorboltsmustnotbeextrudingfromthehullorfromtheinstallation
hardware.Ensurethatthesurfaceofthetransducerface,thehullplatingandputty
aroundthetransducerisasevenandsmoothaspossible.Obstructionsonthese
surfacesmaycreateproblemswithnoise.
4Ifrelevant,allowtherelevantmaritimeauthorityand/orclassicationsocietytoinspect
andapprovethedesignandinstallation.
