Intended Use Statement
NPT4 will provide pressure redistribution for individuals at risk for pressure injury development. The polycarbonate
top cover is designed to reduce shear as the patient is repositioned or transferred with the Mattress Asset
Protection (MAP™) Liner. The copper infused memory foam topper will enhance micro-climate control and patient
comfort. Those patients at higher risk for pressure injury development may be managed by using the control unit
that converts the mattress to an active alternating surface with added head to heal micro-climate control. The
patient support surface is designed to fit any standard hospital medical bed.

Warnings
WARNING:
This bed must be assembled, positioned, and used in accordance with these instructions.
WARNING:
NPT4™ is to be used in accordance with each facility’s policies and procedures.
WARNING: Any change tothe specifications can result in malfunction or damage tothe NPT4™.
WARNING: Do notexceed safe working load listed in the specifications. Can lead toinjury ordamage.
WARNING: Care shall be taken when repositioning ortransferring a patient in or out of bed. Body
weight should beevenly distributed over bed deck atall times. DONOT allow the patient tolie, sit, or
lean in such a waythat their entire body weight is placed only on the raised head or foot section of the
bed.
WARNING: Bed rail entrapment can result in serious injury or even death. Sizewise recommends
caregivers bemindful of the FDA guidelines relevant tobed rail entrapment. These guidelines can be
found on the FDA website asreferenced below. When using a replacement support surface, the
caregiver is responsible for ensuring the mattress properly fits thebed frame. It isalso the caregiver’s
decision whether ornottouse bed rails with the patient.
WARNING: During operation, cell phone with a maximum output power of 2 watts shall be kept atleast
3.3m distance from unit.
WARNING: This unit shall not beserviced or maintained while in use with a patient.

Safety Instructions
Cautions
CAUTION:
If patient is in prone position (face down), take extra care to ensure patient’s airway is not
compromised.
CAUTION:
Be sure the siderails are high enough to properly protect the patient when the mattress is fully
inflated, while continuing to be mindful of the FDA guidelines on bed rail entrapment.
CAUTION:
Do not leave a patient positioned prone on the mattress surface. The decision to position a
patient prone should be at the discretion of the facility's medical staff.
CAUTION:
The operator educational background must at least for 8 years.
CAUTION:
Use of NPT4™ is only one element of care in the prevention and treatment of pressure
injuries. Frequent repositioning, proper care, routine skin assessment, wound treatment and proper
nutrition are but a few of the elements required in the prevention and treatment of pressure injuries.
As there are many factors that may influence the development of a pressure injuries for each individual,
the ultimate responsibility in the prevention and treatment of pressure injuries is with the health care
professional.
CAUTION:
Only one person should occupy the bed at a time.
CAUTION:
Specialty mattresses, including powered air mattress surfaces, may pose a risk of
entrapment. Prior to use, ensure the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risk of entrapment.
CAUTION:
Disconnect control unit from electrical supply before cleaning.
CAUTION:
Use only approved replacement parts.
CAUTION:
Do not open assemblies such as the control unit. If unauthorized personnel perform work on
these components, the manufacturer’s warranty becomes void.
CAUTION:
Ensure that maintenance and installation are performed exclusively by qualified personnel.
CAUTION:
Only authorized personnel should engage in the troubleshooting process. Troubleshooting by
unauthorized persons could result in personal injury or equipment damage.
CAUTION:
It is recommended that gloves and protective clothing be worn at all times during cleaning
and disinfecting.
CAUTION:
The mattress requires regular maintenance to ensure performance and avoid premature
wear, damage and injury.

General Notes
NOTE: To ensure that approved chemical agents are being used for the polycarbonate/polyurethane, contact
your Sizewise representative.
NOTE: Do notattempt toclean HEPA filters, as they are to beremoved and replaced only.
NOTE: HEPA filters aid in contamination control for facilities. HEPA filters donot filter out gases and odor
molecules such as chemical vapors and cigarette smoke.
NOTE: HEPA filter must beused in conjunction with the manufacturer supplied filter. DONOT attempt to
install HEPA filter without the original equipment filter.
NOTE: Ensure factory filter iscompletely dry before placing HEPA filter in unit.
NOTE: The HEPA filter is tobe installed in applicable models and pumps in conjunction with the next factory
filter cleaning procedure.
NOTE: Installation and/or handling ofHEPA filter requires PPE. Service personnel should wear a mask, gloves,
and protective clothing toavoid exposure topossible contaminants.
NOTE: Tools are not required for installation of HEPA filter.
NOTE: Ensure unitis off and/or removed from power source prior toservicing orreplacement offilter or
HEPA filter.
NOTE: DO NOT MODIFY HEPA filter for installation. Order filter from Sizewise toreceive filter with correct
dimensions.
NOTE: Only the outer cover of the mattress requires cleaning and maintenance. Disassembly ofthe support
surface for maintenance ofinternal components is notrecommended. Do notuseharsh solvents or
cleaners. Special care should be used tonotpuncture the mattress with needles orsharp instruments. This
mayresult in loss ofintegrity of the mattress cover or internal components.
NOTE: If additional cleaning is necessary, top covers may beremoved and laundered using standard hospital
disinfectant/detergent. DO NOT use temperatures in excess of 120°F (49°C).
NOTE: After washing, the mattress top cover is tobeair dried or dried in a dryer at very low or noheat to
protect itfrom heat-related damage.

EMC Information
NPT4™ has been tested for compliance with EMC requirements. The guidelines in this section will help ensure
the equipment meets the requirements of the standard.
WARNING: Use of this equipment adjacent to or stacked with other equipment should be avoided because it
could result in improper operation. If such use is necessary, this equipment and the other equipment should
be observed to verify that they are operating normally.
WARNING:
Use of accessories, transducers, and cables other than those specified or provided by the
manufacturer of this equipment could result in increased electromagnetic emissions or decreased
electromagnetic immunity of this equipment and result in improper operation.
WARNING:
Portable RF communications equipment (including peripherals such as antenna cables and
external antennas) should be used no closer than 30 cm (12 in) to any part of the NPT4™ control unit,
including cables specified by the manufacturer. Otherwise, degradation of the performance of this equipment
could result.
WARNING:
During operation, cell phone with a maximum output power of 2 watts shall be kept at least 3.3m
distance from unit.
CAUTION:
This device conforms to all requirements specified by the standards for electromagnetic
compatibility (EMC). Problems are not likely to be encountered by the user due to inadequate electromagnetic
immunity. While the standards are based on expected environments of use, electromagnetic immunity is
always relative. If unusual, intermittent device behavior is encountered and can be associated with cell
phones, radio or TV transmitters, or electro-medical equipment, electromagnetic interference could be the
cause. If such interference occurs, the interfering equipment should be moved away from this device.
Guidance and Manufacturer’s Declaration – Emissions

a Field strengths from fixed transmitters such as base stations for radio (cellular/cordless) telephones and land mobile
radios, amateur radio, AM and FM radio broadcast, and TV broadcast cannot be predicted theoretically with accuracy.
To assess the electromagnetic environment due to fixed RF transmitters, an electromagnetic site survey should be
considered. If the measured field strength in the location in which NPT4™ is used exceeds the applicable RF
compliance level above, the control unit should be observed to verify normal operation. If abnormal performance is
observed, additional measures may be necessary, such as reorienting or relocating the control unit.
