GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS
WARNING Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specications
provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed
below may result in electric shock, re and/or serious injury.
SAVE ALL WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or
battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
Work area safety
Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of ammable
liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks, which may ignite the dust or fumes.
Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause
you to lose control.
Electrical safety
Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use
any adaptor plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodied plugs and matching
outlets will reduce the risk of electric shock.
Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges
and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or
grounded.
Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will
increase the risk of electric shock.
Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power
tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled
cords increase the risk of electric shock.
When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use.
Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a ground fault circuit
interrupter (GFCI) protected supply. Use of a GFCI reduces the risk of electric shock.
Personal safety
Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power
tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the inuence of drugs,
alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in
serious personal injury.
Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment
such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for
appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries
Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before
connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool.
Carrying power tools with your nger on the switch or energizing power tools that have the
switch on invites accidents.
Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a
key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better
control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair and clothing away
from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities,
ensure that these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce
dust-related hazards
Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent
and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a faction
of a second.
Power tool use and care
Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct
power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that
cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if
detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories,
or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the
power tool accidentally.
Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar
with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are
dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving
parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s
operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused
by poorly maintained power tools.
Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting
edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions,
taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the
power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery
handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in
unexpected situations.
Battery tool use and care
Recharge only with the charger specied by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable
for one type of battery pack may create a risk of re when used with another battery pack.
Use power tools only with specically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery
packs may create a risk of injury and re.
When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips,
coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection
from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a
re.
Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If
contact accidentally occurs, ush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek
medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns
Do not use a battery pack or tool that is damaged or modied. Damaged or modied
batteries may exhibit unpredictable behavior resulting in re, explosion or risk of injury.
Do not expose a battery pack or tool to re or excessive temperature. Exposure to re or
temperature above 265 °F (130 °C) may cause explosion.
Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or tool outside the
temperature range specied in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures
outside the specied range may damage the battery and increase the risk of re.

Service
Have your power tool serviced by a qualied repair person using only identical
replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
Never service damaged battery packs. Service of battery packs should only be performed
by the manufacturer or authorized service providers.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR DRAIN CLEANERS
Only grasp the rotating cable with gloves recommended by the manufacturer. Latex or
loose-tting gloves or rags can become wrapped around the cable and may result in serious
personal injury.
Do not allow the cutter to stop turning while the cable is turning. This can overstress
the cable and may cause twisting, kinking or breaking of the cable and may result in serious
personal injury.
Use latex or rubber gloves inside the gloves recommended by the manufacturer,
goggles, face shields, protective clothing, and respirator when chemicals, bacteria
or other toxic or infectious substances are suspected to be in a drain line. Drains may
contain chemicals, bacteria and other substances that may cause burns, be toxic or infectious
or may result in other serious personal injury.
Practice good hygiene. Do not eat or smoke while handling or operating the tool. After
handling or operating drain cleaning equipment, use hot, soapy water to wash hands
and other body parts exposed to drain contents. This will help reduce the risk of health
hazards due to exposure to toxic or infectious material.
Only use the drain cleaner for the recommended drain sizes. Using the wrong size drain
cleaner cable can lead to twisting, kinking or breaking of the cable and may result in personal
injury.
Inspect cable for wear and damage before use. Have the worn or damaged cable replaced
by an Authorized SKIL Service Center or Service Station before using the drain cleaner.
Do not twist, kink, or over bend cables. Breaking of the cable may result in serious personal
injury.
Inspect the drain to be cleaned before use. If possible, determine the access point(s) to the
drain, the size(s) and length(s) of the drain, distance to mainlines, the nature of the blockage,
presence of drain cleaning chemicals or other chemicals, etc. If chemicals are present in the
drain, it is important to understand the specic safety measures required to work around those
chemicals. Contact the chemical manufacturer for required information.
If needed, place protective covers in the work area. The drain cleaning process can be
messy.
Make sure cable is fully retracted inside of the drain cleaner. This will prevent whipping at
start up.
Place the drain cleaner at a distance no greater than 6 inches (15 cm) from drain
opening. If the drain cleaner cannot be placed within 6 inches (15 cm) from the drain opening,
the drain opening will need to be extended using a similar size pipe and ttings. Greater
distances can cause control problems leading to twisting, kinking, breaking or whipping of the
cable.
One person must control both the trigger switch and cable. If the tool stops rotating, the user
must be able to turn the tool off to prevent twisting, kinking, breaking or whipping of the cable.
Do not operate the drain cleaner in reverse rotation except as described in this manual.
Running the drain cleaner in reverse, while in a clog or with cable bound, can cause damage
to the cable and accessories.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS. Refer to them frequently and use them to instruct others who
may use this tool. If you lend this tool to someone else, also lend these instructions to them to
prevent misuse of the product and possible injury.

symbols and the explanations with them deserve your careful attention and understanding.
The symbol warnings do not, by themselves, eliminate any danger. The instructions and
warnings they give are no substitutes for proper accident prevention measures.

Manual, including all safety alert symbols such as “DANGER,”
“WARNING,” and “CAUTION” before using this tool. Failure to following all instructions listed
below may result in electric shock, re, and/or serious personal injury.
The denitions below describe the level of severity for each signal word. Please read the manual
and pay attention to these symbols.
This is the safety alert symbol. It is used to alert you to potential
personal injury hazards. Obey all safety messages that follow this
symbol to avoid possible injury or death.
DANGER DANGER indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will
result in death or serious injury.
WARNING WARNING indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could
result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION CAUTION, used with the safety alert symbol, indicates a hazardous
situation which, if not avoided, will result in minor or moderate injury.
Damage Prevention and Information Messages
These inform the user of important information and/or instructions that could lead to equipment
or other property damage if they are not followed. Each message is preceded by the word
“NOTICE”, as in the example below:

WARNING The operation of any power tools can result in foreign
objects being thrown into your eyes, which can result
in severe eye damage. Before beginning power tool operation, always
wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields and a full face
shield when needed. We recommend a Wide Vision Safety Mask for use
over eyeglasses or standard safety glasses with side shields. Always
use eye protection which is marked to comply with ANSI Z87.1.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING To reduce the risk of re, personal injury, and product damage due to a
short circuit, never immerse your tool, battery pack, or charger in uid
or allow a uid to ow inside them. Corrosive or conductive uids, such as seawater, certain
industrial chemicals, bleach or bleach-containing products, etc. can cause a short circuit.
WARNING If any parts are damaged or missing, do not operate this product until
the parts are replaced. Use of this product with damaged or missing parts
could result in serious personal injury.
WARNING Do not attempt to modify this tool or create accessories not
recommended for use with this tool. Any such alteration or modication
is misuse and could result in a hazardous condition leading to possible serious injury.
WARNING To prevent accidental starting that could cause serious personal
injury, always remove the battery pack from the tool before
maintenance or making adjustments.

Attaching/Detaching the Battery
Pack (Fig. 2)
Lock the direction-of-rotation selector (forward/
center lock/reverse) in the center position
before attaching or detaching the battery pack.
To attach the battery pack:
WARNING Battery tools are always
in operating condition.
Therefore, remove the battery when the tool
is not in use or when carrying it at your
side.
Align the raised rib on the battery pack with the
grooves of the tool, and then slide the battery
pack onto the tool. Make sure that the latch
on the battery pack snaps into place and that the battery pack is secured to the tool before
beginning operation.

NOTICE: When placing the battery pack on the tool, be sure that the raised rib on the battery
pack aligns with the groove inside the tool and that the latches snap into place properly.
Improper attachment of the battery pack can cause damage to internal components.
To detach the battery pack:
Depress the battery-release button, located on the front of the battery pack, to release the
battery pack. Pull the battery pack out and remove it from the tool.
Direction-of-Rotation Selector (Forward/Center Lock/Reverse) (Fig. 3)
• Set the direction of rotation selector in the OFF (center lock) position to lock the switch
trigger and help prevent accidental starting when not in use.
• Position the direction of rotation selector to the far left of the tool for forward operation.
• Position the selector to the far right of the tool for reverse operation.
NOTE: The tool will not run unless the direction of rotation selector is pushed fully to the left or
right.
NOTICE: To prevent gear damage, always allow the cable to come to a complete stop before
changing the direction of rotation.

a. Position the direction-of-rotation selector to
the far left or right of the tool as needed to
unlock the variable-speed trigger switch.
b. To turn the drain cleaner ON, pull the
variable-speed trigger switch.
c. To turn it OFF, release the variable-speed
trigger switch.
Variable Speed
The variable-speed trigger switch delivers higher
speed with increased trigger pressure and lower
speed with decreased trigger pressure.
WARNING Battery tools are always in
operating condition. Place the direction of rotation selector in the OFF
(center lock) position to lock the switch trigger when not in use or carrying at your side.

Advancing/Retracting the Cable
To manually advance/retract the cable:
a. Disconnect the battery pack to the tool.
b. Lock the switch trigger by placing the direction of rotation selector in center lock position.
c. Hold the front handle with one hand and advance the cable with the other.
NOTE: Do not squeeze the AUTO-FEED lever when holding the front handle.
d. To retract the cable, hold the front handle with one hand and pull the cable with the other.
To advance/retract the cable using
the trigger switch (Fig. 5):
a. Attach the battery pack to the tool.
b. To feed the cable, set the direction of rotation
selector (1) to the forward position (far left).
c. Depress the AUTO-FEED lever (2) with one
hand, then pull and hold the variable-speed
trigger switch (3) with the other to advance
the cable.
d. To retract the cable, place the direction-of-
rotation selector (1) to the reverse position
(far right), depress the AUTO-FEED lever (2),
then pull and hold the switch trigger (3).
e. Once the cable has been advanced (or
retracted) to desired length, release the trigger.
Proper Hand Position (Fig. 6)

anticipation of a sudden movement of the drain
cleaner.
Proper hand position requires one hand on the
front handle, with the other hand on the main
handle.

Inserting Cable into Drain (Fig. 7)
WARNING Always remove battery

WARNING To reduce the risk of injury,

glasses with side shields. Always wear leather
gloves.
If the cable is stopped from rotating due to a
blockage of the pipe, release the trigger switch
immediately. Allowing the tool to continue
rotating can overstress the cable and may cause twisting, kinking or breaking of the cable and
may result in serious personal injury.
Only operate the drain cleaner in reverse to remove the cable from an obstruction.
a. Attach the battery pack to the tool.
b. Set the direction-of-rotation selector to the center lock position.
c. Hold the drain cleaner within 6” (15 cm) of the drain, and manually feed the cable into the
drainpipe.
NOTE: Advance the cable slowly at rst. Advancing it too rapidly can result in twisting or
binding.
d. After feeding about 12” (30 cm) of cable into the drain, you may begin advancing the cable
using the trigger switch and AUTO-FEED lever or continue advancing manually.
WARNING Do not operate if more than 6” (15 cm) of cable is exposed. Greater
distance can cause twisting, kinking, breaking, or whipping of the cable.
NOTE: To avoid getting fatigue, rest the tool base on at surface during use.
e. Continue feeding the cable into the drain until the clog is reached.
f. After reaching the clog, use the trigger switch and AUTO-FEED lever to advance the cable
until the clog is cleared. Repeat until the drain is clear. If the cable binds, release the trigger
immediately.
NOTE: If the cable is stopped by the blockage of the pipe so that the cable will not rotate, refer
to the “To Unbind Drain Cleaner” section.
g. Once the clog is cleared, attempt to ush your toilet or run water through your drain to
conrm that the water is owing freely.
To Unbind Drain Cleaner
WARNING Be sure the cable has come to a complete stop before switching to reverse
rotation.
a. Set the direction-of-rotation selector to the reverse position.
b. Withdraw the tool a few inches while in reverse to free the cable.
c. Stop the tool.
d. After the tool has come to a complete stop, switch the direction-of-rotation selector back to
the forward position.
NOTICE: Running the tool in reverse for extended periods can cause damage to the cable.
Only operate in reverse to remove the cable from an obstruction.

MAINTENANCE
WARNING To avoid serious personal injury, always remove the battery pack
from the light when cleaning or performing any maintenance.
Service
WARNING Preventive maintenance performed by unauthorized personnel may
result in misplacing of internal wires and components which could
cause a serious hazard. We recommend that all tool service be performed by a SKIL Factory
Service Center or Authorized SKIL Service Station.
WARNING To avoid injury, never change the cable by yourself. Always have the
worn or damaged cable replaced by an Authorized SKIL Service Center or
Service Station before using the drain cleaner.
General Maintenance
WARNING When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Use of any
other parts could create a hazard or cause product damage.
Periodically inspect the entire product for damaged, missing, or loose parts such as screws,
nuts, bolts, caps, etc. Tighten securely all fasteners and caps and do not operate this
product until all missing or damaged parts are replaced. Please contact customer service an
authorized service center for assistance.
Cleaning
The tool should be cleaned after each use to prevent contamination and residue build up. And
it may be cleaned most effectively with compressed dry air.
WARNING Always wear safety goggles when cleaning with compressed air.
Ventilation openings and switch levers must be kept clean and free of
foreign matter. Do not attempt to clean by inserting pointed objected through openings.
WARNING Certain cleaning agents and solvents damage plastic parts. Some of
these are: gasoline, carbon tetrachloride, chlorinated cleaning solvents,
ammonia and household detergents that contain ammonia.
Draining the drum:
a. Remove the battery pack from the tool.
b. Use a coin to loosen and remove the draining hole plug on the drum.
c. Rotate the drum of the tool so that the draining hole is facing down, allow any liquid inside
the drum to pour down a drain or into a container approved for liquid waste.
d. Reattach the draining hole plug to the rear drum using a coin.
WARNING The draining hole plug shall not be lost. Operation of the product without it
may result in injury to the user. Be sure to secure it in place before using
the product.
Cleaning the Cable
The cable should be thoroughly ushed with water after every use to prevent damaging effects
of sediment and drain cleaning compounds.
WARNING Wear leather gloves.
After washing, dry the cable completely. Then, wipe cable with an oiled rag before returning it
to the drum.
Storage
Store the tool indoors or well covered in rainy weather in a place that is inaccessible to
children and people unfamiliar with drain cleaners. Keep away from corrosive agents.

TROUBLESHOOTING

5 YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY
Chervon North America, Inc. (“Seller”) warrants to the original purchaser only, that all SKIL
consumer TOOLS will be free from defects in material or workmanship for a period of ve
years from date of purchase, if original purchaser registers the product within 30 days from
purchase. BATTERIES AND CHARGERS are warranted for 2 years. Product registration
can be completed online at www.Registermyskil.com. Original purchasers should also retain
their receipt as proof of purchase. THE FIVE-YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD FOR TOOLS IS
CONDITIONED ON REGISTRATION OF THE PRODUCT WITHIN 30 DAYS OF PURCHASE.
If original purchasers do not register their product timely, the foregoing limited warranty will
apply for a duration of three years for tools. All batteries and chargers will remain under the
two-year limited warranty.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, if a SKIL consumer tool is used for industrial, professional
or commercial purposes, the foregoing warranty will apply for a duration of ninety days,
regardless of registration.
SELLER’S SOLE OBLIGATION AND YOUR EXCLUSIVE REMEDY under this Limited
Warranty and, to the extent permitted by law, any warranty or condition implied by law, shall
be the repair or replacement of parts, without charge, which are defective in material or
workmanship and which have not been misused, carelessly handled, or repaired by persons
other than Seller or Authorized Service Station. To make a claim under this Limited Warranty,
you must return the complete product, transportation prepaid, to any SKIL Factory Service

L’expression « outil électrique » utilisée dans les avertissements correspond aux outils
électriques alimentés sur secteur (à l) ou alimentés par piles (sans l).
Mesures de sécurité dans l’aire de travail
L’aire de travail doit être propre et bien éclairée. Une aire de travail encombrée et peu
éclairée augmente le risque d’accident.
N’utilisez pas d’outils électriques dans un milieu explosif, par exemple où il y a
présence de liquides, de vapeurs ou de poussières inammables. Les outils électriques
produisent des étincelles susceptibles d’enammer ces poussières ou ces vapeurs.
Gardez les enfants et les autres personnes à l’écart lorsque vous utilisez un outil
électrique. Une distraction peut vous faire perdre la maîtrise de l’outil.
Consignes de sécurité relatives à l’électricité
Les ches des outils électriques doivent correspondre à la prise. Ne modiez jamais
la che de quelque façon que ce soit. N’utilisez pas d’adaptateur avec les outils
électriques mis à la terre. L’utilisation de ches non modiées dans les prises compatibles
réduit les risques de choc électrique.
Évitez de toucher à des surfaces mises à la terre, par exemple, un tuyau, un radiateur,
une cuisinière ou un réfrigérateur. Le contact du corps avec une surface mise à la terre
augmente les risques de choc électrique.
N’exposez pas les outils électriques à la pluie ou à tout autre environnement humide.
Les risques de choc électrique sont plus élevés si l’eau s’inltre dans un outil électrique.
N’utilisez pas le cordon d’alimentation de façon abusive. Ne transportez jamais un
outil électrique en le tenant par son cordon ou ne tirez jamais sur le cordon pour le
débrancher. Tenez le cordon d’alimentation éloigné des sources de chaleur, de l’huile,
des objets coupants et des pièces mobiles. Les risques de choc électrique sont plus
élevés si le cordon d’alimentation est endommagé ou emmêlé.
Lorsque vous utilisez un outil électrique à l’extérieur, servez-vous d’une rallonge
conçue pour être utilisée à l’extérieur. L’utilisation de ce type de rallonge réduit les risques
de choc électrique.
Si vous n’avez d’autre choix que d’utiliser un outil électrique dans un endroit humide,
utilisez une alimentation protégée par un disjoncteur différentiel. L’utilisation d’un
disjoncteur différentiel réduit les risques de choc électrique.

sécurité. Le port d’équipement de protection, comme un masque antipoussières, des
chaussures de sécurité antidérapantes, un casque de protection et des protecteurs auditifs,

Prenez des mesures an d’éviter que l’outil se mette en marche accidentellement.

Habillez-vous convenablement. Ne portez pas de vêtements amples ni de bijoux.
Gardez vos cheveux, vos vêtements et vos gants loin des pièces mobiles. Les
vêtements amples, les bijoux et les cheveux longs risquent de se prendre dans les pièces en
mouvement.
Si un dispositif permet de raccorder un dépoussiéreur, assurez-vous que celui-ci est
branché et utilisé de manière appropriée. L’emploi d’un dépoussiéreur contribue à réduire
les dangers liés à la poussière.
Restez toujours sur vos gardes et suivez les principes de sécurité des outils, même s’il
s’agit d’un outil que vous utilisez fréquemment. Il suft d’être négligent une fraction de
