BRAKE OPERATION TEST PROCEDURE
Proper operation of the parking brakes should be checked daily or at the beginning of each shift. Locate the machine
inan appropriateareafortesting thebrakes.IMPORTANT NOTE:Theareafortestingthe machine MUSTbecompletely
level and free of obstructions. DO NOT drive on an incline unless the parking brakes are working properly. With the
machine fully stowed and the throttle switch in the high position (if engine powered). Drive the machine forward at full
speed and remove foot from foot switch. Repeat this step driving in reverse.
WARNING
Parking brakes will instantly engage causing the machine to stop immediately.
The machine should come to an instant and abrupt stop. If the machine does not stop instantly or if the machine pulls
to one side while stopping, the brake adjustment MUST be checked before putting the machine into service.

SKYJACK, Inc. warrants each new work platform to be
free of defective parts and workmanship. During the
firstfullyear,laborandreplacementpartswillbeprovided
by the local authorized Skyjack dealer without charge.
Forthefollowing48months,structural componentsfound
tobedefectivewillbereplacedorrepairedatnocharge.
A warranty registration card is supplied with each work
platform. Thewarrantyisonlyeffectivewhenthewarranty
cardhasbeencompletedandreturned to Skyjack within
15 days from the time of billing. When work platforms
are put into stock, the warranty period does not start
until the work platform has been shipped to the dealers
customer. If a unit is put into service and no warranty
cardhasbeenmailedtoSkyjack,Inc.,thewarrantyperiod
will commence 15 days from the date the dealer was
invoiced for the work platform.
Allwarrantyclaims are subject to approvalby Skyjack’s
ServiceDepartment. Skyjack, Inc. reserves theright to
limitoradjustclaimswithregardtodefectiveparts,labor
ortraveltimebasedonusualandcustomaryguidelines.
Parts purchased from sources other than Skyjack will
notbecoveredunder this warranty. Misuse or improper
operation, lack of normal maintenance and inspections
as outlined in this manual, alterations to original design
and/or components or accidents will void all warranty.
Batteries are not covered by this warranty.
The above mentioned warranty statement is exclusive
and no other warranty whether written, oral or implied
shall apply. Skyjack excludes any implied warranty of
merchantability and fitness and accepted no liability for
consequentialdamagesorforothernegligence.
WARRANTY PROCEDURES
The selling distributor or authorized dealer shall be
responsiblefor thecompletehandling ofcustomerclaims
underthis warranty. Here’s what to do:
1. When a customer files a claim under this warranty,
contact Skyjack’s Service Department to verify
warrantycoverage. NOTE:Thecompleteserialnumber
of the work platform is required to verify the claim.
2. WhenSkyjack’sServiceDepartmentverifies warranty
coverage, they will also issue an RA (Return
Authorization)number for the return of any defective
component(s). All items over $25.00 in value must
be returned to Skyjack, Inc.

3. Fillouta WarrantyClaimFormfromdealer’s supply of
claim forms. Then notify Skyjack’s Service
Departmentofthe warranty claim numberontheform
used.
4. Thedistributor/dealershouldthenfilea warrantyclaim
withSkyjack,Inc. describing the nature ofthedefect,
probable cause, work performed, travel hours, and
labor hours listed separately. Warranty labor will be
paidat arateof$42.00perhour. Thetravel allowance
willbepaid at the same hourly ratewithinthe dealers
specified territory, limited to a maximum of four (4)
hours. If a part has serviceable components,
PLEASE replace the bad component. For instance,
ifyouhaveabadswitchonacontroller,pleasereplace
the switch. Hydraulic cylinders should be repacked,
unless they are damaged beyond repair. Engine
failures should be directed to your local engine
distributorandcoveredbythemanufacturerswarranty.
Skyjackwillaccommodateyouandyourlabor. Labor
rates and travel allowances are subject to change
withoutnotice.
5. Warranty claims must be received by Skyjack within
15workingdaysfrom the date of the repair. Warranty
claims received with insufficient information will be
returnedforcorrection or completion.
6. Materials returned forwarrantyinspectionmusthave
thefollowingprocedures:
A. Carefullypackagedto prevent additional damage
duringshipping.
B. Drained of all contents and all open ports capped
orplugged.
C. Shippedin a container taggedor marked with the
RAnumber.
D. Shipped PREPAID. Any item(s) returned for
warranty by any other means may be refused and
returned unless prior approval from Skyjack is
obtained.
E. Items shipped to the dealer will be sent freight
prepaidand added to the invoice.
Failureto comply with the aboveprocedures may delay
approvalandprocessing of thewarrantyclaimandcould
resultinthedenialofawarrantyclaim. Skyjack’sdealer’s
accounts must be kept current in order to approve and
issue warranty credits. Skyjack reserves the right to
withhold issuance of warranty credits to a dealer if their
accountisnotingoodstanding. Thisissubjecttochange

25. TO ROTATE THE PLATFORM TO THE LEFT:
Pressandhold theTurretRotateToggle Switch
to the “ ï“ (left) position. Release the switch
to stop.
26. TOROTATE THEPLATFORMTOTHE RIGHT:
Pressandhold theTurretRotateToggle Switch
tothe“ ð“(right)position. Release the switch
to stop.
27. TO RETRACTTHEBOOMARM: Pressandhold
the Boom Extend/RetractToggle Switch to the
“ñ“(retract)position.Releasetheswitchtostop.
28. TO EXTEND THE BOOMARM: Pressand hold
the Boom Extend/RetractToggle Switch to the
“ ò“ (extend) position. Release the switch to
stop.
29. TOSOUNDTHE HORN: Depressthe redpush-
buttonontheDrive/SteerController.
30. TO OPERATE USING THE EMERGENCY
PUMP: RaisethecoverontheEmergencyPump
SelectToggleSwitch. Press andholdtheswitch
to the “ ï” (left) position. When the switch is
released,powertotheemergencypump will be
disconnected. This function is intended to be
used in the event of an engine failure to lower
the work platform for repairs to be made. This
function is not intended to be used for an
extended period of time.
Shutdown Procedure
1. Fully lower the platform.
2. Push in the Emergency Stop Buttons.
3. Rotate the Off/Platform/BaseKey Switch to the
” “(off) position. Remove the key.
4. Rotate the Battery Disconnect Switch to the
“OFF”position.
Loading and Tie Down Procedure
1. With the telescopic boom fully retracted and
traileron firm level ground. Alignthe tires of the
boom with the back end of the trailer.
2. Select low speed on the platform throttle control
and slightly raise the jib for ground clearance
while loading. Slowly and carefully drive the
machineontothetrailer.Intheeventofanengine
failuretheEmergencyPumpcanbeusedtoraise
the boom, and steer the work platform while
loading.
NOTE
For loading and unloading using a winch line, see
thedrive reliefoverride andbrake releaseprocedures
in this section. REMEMBER
Operating any hydraulic function will reset the
parking brake.
3. With machine loaded on trailer, tie down as
recommended.(Referto Figure 2-11.)

SECTION 1
INTRODUCTION
PURPOSE OF EQUIPMENT
TheSKYJACKSJKBBoomWorkPlatformsaredesigned
to transport and raise personnel and tools to overhead
workareas.
USE OF EQUIPMENT
Thework platforms(Figure1-2) arehighlymaneuverable
workstations. The SJKB-40-D/F and -40-D Modelsare
designedforbothslab-typeandroughterrainconstruction
applications.Liftingand elevateddriving thesemodels
MUST be on a flat, level, compacted surface.
WARNINGS
Theoperator MUSTreadandcompletely understandthe
frontpanel labels (Figures 1-1) andALL other warnings
in this manual and on the work platform. Compare the
labels on the work platform with the labels found
throughoutSections1 and 2 of thismanual. Ifanylabels
aredamaged or missing, replace themimmediately.
DESCRIPTION
The work platform consists of four major assemblies,
the platform, boom assembly, turret and drive chassis.
Anoperator’scontrol console is locatedontheplatform.
A foot switch on the platform enables and disables the
platformcontrols. Auxiliarybase controls are locatedin
the electric panel located on the rotating turret.
PLATFORM - The platform is constructed of a skid-
resistant see-thru deck surface and a 42" high tubular
steelrailingsystemwithmidrailsand6"toeboards. The
platform can be entered through a sliding midrail bar at
the center of the railing system or optional hinged gate.
The platform can be rotated 90 degrees from center in
either direction. A110 VAC GFI outletis also located on
theplatform.
BOOMASSEMBLY -Theboomis mounted ontheturret
and consists of a 4 foot hydraulic boom jib, telescoping
boom assembly and riser arm. This mechanism uses
double-actinghydraulic cylinders with holdingvalves to
control vertical movement. Manual lowering valves at
the base of the main boom and jib cylinders allow the
mechanism to lower in the event of an emergency or
electrical system failure.
TURRET -Theturret rotates360 degrees continuously.
On each side of the turret is an enclosure. One with
hinged doors that contains the swing out engine tray,
emergencypump,brakemanifoldandaccesstotheturret
transportation lock and battery. The other enclosure
contains the fuel tank, the hydraulic fluid tank and the
electricalpanel.
DRIVE CHASSIS - The chassis assembly consists of a
rigid one piece weldment and one of the following axle
configurations.
Standard 2WD machines have a straight front axle with
two non-driven wheels, steerable by a double acting
hydrauliccylinder andanhydraulic motordrivenrearaxle
withspringappliedhydraulicallyreleasedparkingbrakes.
Optional 4WD machineshave a hydraulic motor driven,
rigiddrive axleintherear.Thesteer axleiscoupledtothe
rear with a drive shaft. The driven steer axle has an
integrated double acting hydraulic cylinder for steering.
Both axles have spring applied hydraulically released
parking brakes. Machines equipped with the Dual Fuel
Optionhave LPtankmounting bracketsonthe sideofthe
chassis weldment.
PLATFORM CONTROL CONSOLE - Located on the
platform, this control station contains controls for work
platformmotionand emergency stopping. Also controls
forengineoperationandemergencypumpoperation.
OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES - The SKYJACK SJKB
Boom Work Platforms are designed to accept a variety
ofoptional accessories. ThesearelistedinSpecifications
andFeatures foundinthis section.Operatinginstructions
for these options (if required) can be found in Section 2
of this manual.

consolewithout yoursafetydevisefastened andproperly
securingthesafetylanyardto the platform lanyard rings.
Failure to avoid this hazard could result in death or
serious injury!
5. Attach the safety lanyards of each occupant to
theplatform lanyard rings.
6. Pull out the Emergency Stop Button.
7. ForgasenginemachinesequippedwiththeDual
Fuel Option. Select the desired fuel source.
8. When the engine is cold, press and hold the
Engine Choke Toggle Switch to the “ ð“
(right) position while starting engine. Release
switch once the engine starts (Kubota gas
engines) or press and hold Glow Plug Toggle
Switch to the “ ð“ (right) position for 15 to 20
seconds,thenrelease (Diesel engines).
9. TurnEngineStop/Run/StartSelect Switchtothe
“ ” (start) position until engine starts, then
release. DO NOT over crank the starter. (If
engine fails to start after multiple attempts,

Read and pay attention to all labels on the unit.
DO NOTexertexcessivesideforcesonplatformwhile
elevated.
DO NOToverload,the lift relief valvedoesnot protect
againstoverloading when the platform iselevated.
DO NOTalter or disable limit switches or other safety
devices.
DO NOT raise your platform in windy or gusty
conditions.
DO NOTexceedtheratedcapacity of your unit. Make
sure the load is evenly distributed on the platform.
Jobsite Hazards
DO NOT operate the unit on surfaces not capable of
supportingtheweightoftheworkplatform,includingthe
rated load, e.g. covers, drains and trenches.
BE AWARE of overhead obstacles, especially
electrical lines. Also be aware of poorly lit areas that
mighthide overhead obstacles.
DO NOTelevatethe work platform ifthe unit is noton
firm level surfaces. Avoid pot holes, loading docks,
debris,dropoffsandsurfacesthatmyaffectthestability
of your work platform.
DO NOTclimb or descend a grade steeper than 30%
while in travel mode. Boom elevated driving must be
doneonlyon firm surfaces. (Ref. Table 1-1)
ENSURE that there is no person(s) in the path of
travel.
Work Platform Conditions
An operator should not use any work platform that:
Hasladders, scaffolding or other devices mounted on it
to increase its size or work height.
Does not have a clean, uncluttered work area.
Doesnotappear to be working properly.
Hasbeendamaged or appears to have wornormissing
parts.
Has alterations or modifications not approved by the
manufacturer.
Hassafetydevices which have been alteredordisabled.

11. BOOM RETRACT/EXTEND TOGGLE SWITCH -
This switch controls the retraction and extension of the
telescoping boom arm. To retract the boom arm, push
andholdthistoggle switch to the “ ñ“(retract)position.
Release switch to stop. To extend the boom arm, push
andholdthistoggleswitchtothe “ò“(extend)position.
Release switch to stop.
12. PLATFORM LEVELING TOGGLE SWITCH - This
switchcontrolsthe leveling of theplatformif adjustment
is necessary. If the platform is tilted away from the jib,
pushand holdthistoggleswitchto the“ ñ“(up)position.
Releaseswitch when level. Iftheplatformis tiltedtoward
the jib, push and hold this toggle switch to the “ ò“
(down)position. Release switch when level.
13. PLATFORM LEFT/RIGHT ROTATION TOGGLE
SWITCH -This switch controls left and right rotation of
theplatform. Torotate the platform to the left, push and
holdthistoggleswitchtothe“ï“ (left)position. Release
switch to stop. To rotate the platform to the right, push
and hold this toggle switch to the “ ð“ (right)
position.Releaseswitch to stop.
14. BOOM SPEEDCONTROLROTARYSWITCH - This
rotaryswitch allows the operatorto control the speed of
thelifting,loweringandrotationfunctions. Toreducethe
speed of the funtions turn the knob counter-clockwise.
To increase the speed of the functions turn the knob
clockwise.
15. DRIVE/STEER CONTROLLER - This lever-type
controllerallowstheoperatortodriveinforwardorreverse
and by using the rocker on top of the controller to steer
left or right
16. HORN PUSH BUTTON (Option) - If equipped with
the horn option , the horn is sounded by depressing the
redbuttonon the Drive/Steer controller handle.
17. ENGINE WARNING LIGHT -Thisredindicatorlight
notifiestheoperator that the engine oilpressureislowor
the engine is overheating, the engine will shut off
automatically.
18. TILT SENSOR INDICATOR LIGHT - This red
indicatorlight warns the operatorthat the work platform
isonaslopewhichexceeds the limits for safe operation.
A warning buzzer will also sound.
19. FUNCTION ENABLE LIGHT - This red indicator
lighttells the operator that the foot switch has been
depressedandpower isavailabletooperatethecontrols
ontheoperator’s control console.

Prestart Checks
1. Check for obstacles around the work platform
and in the path of travel such as holes, drop
offs, debris, ditches and soft fill.
2. Check overhead clearances.
3. Make sure emergency lowering valves at the
base of the boom and jib cylinders are fully
closed.
4. Check fuel level. Make sure the valve on the
propane tank is in the open position (Dual Fuel
Optiononly).
Start and Operation
1. Turn the Control Circuit Disconnect Switch to
the“ON”position.
2. Pulloutthe EmergencyStopButtonon theBase
ControlPanel.
3. Select“ ” (platform)with Off/Platform/Base
Select Key Switch.
4. Enter the platformbyslidingthe entry bar at the
center of the platform upward. Make sure the
entry midrail returns to midrail position. Close
thegate (if so equipped).

turn the switch to the “ “ (stop) position.The engine

2. ENGINE CHOKE/GLOW PLUG SWITCH - This
switchwhenheld in the “ ð“ (right)position,activates
theelectricchokeongasolineenginesortheglowplugs
onthe optional diesel engine.
3. EMERGENCYPUMP SELECT TOGGLE SWITCH
-Intheevent of anemergency, moving thistoggleswitch
to the” ï“ (left) position kills the engine, enables the
12 volt emergency pump and allows all functions to be
operated. Toresumenormal operation, move the switch
to the right position by closing the switch cover.
4. FUELSELECT TOGGLE SWITCH(DualFuel) -This
switchallowstheoperatortoselectthe fuel source to be
used.
5. ENGINE SPEED SELECT TOGGLE SWITCH -This
switch allows the operator to select from low or high
enginespeed.
6. EMERGENCYSTOPBUTTON-Thisredmushroom-
shaped button is designed to cut power to the platform
controlswhen struck in theevent of an emergencyor at
work platform shutdown. To restore power, simply pull
buttonout.

8. RISER UP/DOWN TOGGLE SWITCH - This switch
controlsthe up/down movement ofthe riser section. To
raise the riser section, push and hold this toggle switch
to the “ ñ“ (up) position. Release switch to stop. To
lowerthe riser section, push and hold this toggle switch
to the “ ò“ (down) position. Release switch to stop.
9. JIB UP/DOWN TOGGLE SWITCH - This switch
controls the up/down movement of the jib. To move the
jibupward,push and hold thistoggleswitch to the “ ñ“
(up) position. Release switch to stop. To move the jib
downward,push and hold this toggle switch to the “ ò“
(down) position. Release switch to stop.
10. TURRET ROTATION TOGGLE SWITCH - This
switch controls clockwise and counterclockwise turret
rotation. To rotate the turret clockwise, push and hold
this toggle switch to the “ ï“ (left) position. Release
switch to stop. To rotate the turret counterclockwise,
push and hold this toggle switch to the “ ð“ (right)

OPERATOR’S RESPONSIBILITY FOR MAINTENANCE
Deathorinjurycan result if the work platformisnot kept in good working order.Inspection and maintenance should be
performedbycompetentpersonnel who are familiar with mechanicalprocedures.
Theoperator should be assured that the work platform hasbeen properly maintained andinspected before using it.
Even if the operator is not directly responsible for the maintenance of this work platform, the operator should perform
ALLthe daily inspections foundin Table 2-1. Maintenance andInspection Schedule.
NOTE
Replace all worn or damaged parts or labels discovered during this inspection.
MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION SCHEDULE
Theactual operating environment of thework platform governs the useof the maintenance schedule. Theinspection
points covered in Table 2-1. Maintenance and Inspection Schedule indicates the areas of the work platform to be
maintainedor inspected andat what intervalsthe maintenance and inspections are to be performed.
OWNER’S ANNUAL INSPECTION RECORD
It is the responsibility of the owner to arrange daily, weekly, monthly and annual inspections of the work platform.
(RefertoTable2-2. in this manual.)
GENERAL MAINTENANCE HINTS
• Before attempting any repair work, disconnect the battery by turning the Battery Disconnect Switch to the
“OFF”position.
• Preventative maintenance is the easiest and least expensive type of maintenance.

Thereliefoverridestems,locatedonthetopandbottom
of the Drive Pump, are used to override the drive relief
valves allowing the machine to be loaded or unloaded
from a trailer using a winch line. To override the drive
reliefvalve the procedure below MUSTbe followed:

wheelschocked.
Step 1. Place the machine on a flat level surface and
chock the wheels to prevent from rolling.
Step 2. Loosen the retaining nut on the relief valve
override stem. Screw in the override stem
(clockwise) until it stops. Repeat this step for
both relief valves.
Step 3. Releasethe parkingbrake(seeBrake Manifold
inthissection).The machine is now ready to be
loadedorunloaded using a winch line.

onthe rotating turret in the hydraulic/electriccabinet. It
contains the following controls:
1. OFF/PLATFORM/BASE SELECT KEY SWITCH -
Turning the key to the “ ” (off) position disconnects
power from the control circuit. When the “ ”
(platform) position is selected, power is directed to the
controlstation on the platform. When the switch is held
in the “ ” (base) position power is directed to the
control station on the base.
2. RISER UP/DOWN TOGGLE SWITCH - This switch
controlsthe up/down movement ofthe riser section. To
raise the riser section, push and hold this toggle switch
to the “ ñ“ (up) position. Release switch to stop. To
lowerthe riser section, push and hold this toggle switch
to the “ ò“ (down) position. Release switch to stop.
3. BOOM UP/DOWN TOGGLE SWITCH- This switch
controlstheup/down movement of theboomsection. To
raise the boom section, push and hold this toggle switch
to the “ ñ“ (up) position. Release switch to stop. To
lowertheboomsection,pushandholdthistoggleswitch
to the “ ò“ (down) position. Release switch to stop.
4. TURRET ROTATION TOGGLE SWITCH - This
switch controls clockwise and counterclockwise turret
rotation. To rotate the turret clockwise, push and hold
this toggle switch to the “ ï“ (left) position. Release
switch to stop. To rotate the turret counterclockwise,
push and hold this toggle switch to the “ ð“ (right)
position. Release switch to stop.
5. PLATFORM LEVELING TOGGLE SWITCH - This
switchcontrolsthe leveling of theplatformif adjustment
is necessary. If the platform is tilted away from the jib,
pushand holdthistoggleswitchto the“ ñ“(up)position.
Releaseswitch when level. Iftheplatformis tiltedtoward
the jib, push and hold this toggle switch to the “ ò“
(down)position. Release switch when level.
6. BOOM RETRACT/EXTEND TOGGLE SWITCH -
This switch controls the retraction and extension of the
telescoping boom arm. To retract the boom arm, push
andholdthistoggle switch to the “ ñ“(retract)position.
Release switch to stop. To extend the boom arm, push
andholdthistoggleswitchtothe “ò“(extend)position.
Release switch to stop.
7. PLATFORM LEFT/RIGHT ROTATION TOGGLE
SWITCH -This switch controls left and right rotation of
theplatform. Torotate the platform to the left, push and
holdthistoggleswitchtothe“ï“ (left)position. Release
switch to stop. To rotate the platform to the right, push
and hold this toggle switch to the “ ð“ (right) position.
8. JIB UP/DOWN TOGGLE SWITCH - This switch
controls the up/down movement of the jib. To move the
jibupward,push and hold thistoggleswitch to the “ ñ“
(up) position. Release switch to stop. To move the jib
downward,push and hold this toggle switch to the “ ò“
(down) position. Release switch to stop.

9. EMERGENCYSTOPBUTTON - When struck, this
redpush-buttonswitchdisconnectspowertothecontrol
circuit. Intheeventofanemergencyoratworkplatform
shutdown,pushbuttonin. Torestorepower, simply pull
buttonout.
10. CIRCUIT BREAKERS - In the event of a power
overloadorpositivecircuitgrounding,thecircuitbreaker
will pop out. Make the necessary corrections, then
depressthe push-button to reset.
11. ENGINE STOP/RUN/START SELECT SWITCH -
Turning the switch to the “ “ (start) position will
engage the starter, once the engine starts, release the
switch and it will return to the “ “ (run) position. To
stop the engine turn the switch to the “ “ (stop)
position.Theenginemustberunningbeforeanyfunctions
canbeoperated.
12. ENGINE CHOKE/GLOW PLUG SWITCH - This
switch when held in the “ ñ“ (up) position, activates
theelectricchokeongasolineenginesortheglowplugs
onthe optional diesel engine.
13. EMERGENCYPUMP SELECT TOGGLE SWITCH
-Intheevent of anemergency, moving thistoggleswitch
to the” ñ“ up position kills the engine, enables the 12
volt emergency pump and allows all functions to be
operated. Toresumenormal operation, move the switch
to the down position by closing the switch cover.
14. FUEL GUAGE - Electronic fuel levelguage.
15. VOLT METER -Thismeter displays battery voltage.
16. HOUR METER - Activated by the ignition system,
thisguagemeasures engine running time.
17. 110 VOLT RECEPTACLE (Power to platform) -
This110volt receptiacle is used toprovidepower to the
platformfor operating tools.

1. BATTERY DISCONNECTSWITCH
1. BATTERY DISCONNECT SWITCH - This switch,
located on the rotating turret near the electrical panel,
disconnects power to both control stations in the event
of an emergency and for work platform shut down.This
switch MUST be turned to ‘’ON’‘ position to start the
engine or operate any control on either of these control
stations.
DO NOT disconnect power while engine is running,
DO NOT use this switch to turn engine off. Damage
to engine may occur.
