This guide provides the basics for getting started with your
Talk Pad case.
The Talk Pad 8 case is compatible with the following models
of iPad:
iPad mini 6th generation (2021)

Your case has two parts: a clip frame and the rubber
surround.
Remove the clip frame from the surround.
Place the clip frame over the screen of your iPad. Make sure
that the front camera is visible and the charging port is not
blocked.
Tip: The camera should be on the left, Smartbox logo on the
bottom and the charging port on the right.

Push the clip frame until it sits flush around the screen.
Place the right edge of your iPad and frame (where the USB
C port is located) into the right edge of the rubber surround.
Tip: You will see the volume buttons of the case line up with
the volume buttons of the iPad
Push the corners into place.
Run your fingers around the edge of the rubber surround to
seal the clip frame into place.

2. Power
The device power button is found on the top left side of your
Talk Pad.
To turn on your device on, press and hold the power button
for 3 seconds and press and hold the Connect button for 3
seconds.

Putting your Talk Pad to sleep
Sleep is a low powered mode where the device is inactive,
and the screen is off.
Tap the power button to sleep the device.
Tap the power button again to wake the device.
Power off
To turn the device off, press and hold the power button and
the volume up button.
Swipe the ‘Slide to power off’ toggle on the screen. Press the
cross to cancel.
Press and hold the Connect Button for 3 seconds to power
off the speaker.

3. Charging
When charging your Talk Pad, ensure that the device and the
speaker are charged at the same time. The Talk Pad charger
has two USB C connections for both ports on the device.
Connect the Talk Pad power adapter to a mains socket.
Connect the charging cable to the power adapter.
Connect both USB C connections charging ports 1 and 2.
It is best to charge your Talk Pad when not in use.

4. Bluetooth and pairing
Depending on your Talk Pad setup, the speaker will either be
paired when you unpack your device, or you will need to pair
the speaker as part of the setup process.
To pair the speaker, make sure the speaker is off (press the
Connect button for 3 seconds).
Press and hold the Connect button for 10 seconds to power
on and start pairing mode.
The Bluetooth settings are found in the Settings app.
Select Settings, then Bluetooth to see a list of all connected
devices. The speaker is listed as Smartbox AAC - XXXX.
Press and hold the Connect Button for 3 seconds to power
the speaker off.
Tip: The code following Smartbox AAC matches the number
printed on the right side of the speaker, under the stand.

5. Using the stand
The stand for your Talk Pad can be used to position it on a
desk or table so it can be used comfortably at any angle.

6. Mounting
Your Talk Pad can be mounted to a Rehadapt or Daessy
connection (Mounting plate sold separately).
The mounting plate can be attached with the screws and
screwdriver supplied with the mounting kit to the three holes
on the back of the speaker.

7. Attaching the strap
To attach the strap to your Talk Pad, raise the stand to reveal
the attachment points.
Loop the end of the strap through the attachment point,
unclip the connector and push it through the loop. Clip the
connector again and repeat on the opposite side.

8. Finding you model and serial
number
When you contact our Support team, please have your
device model and serial number to hand. This helps us
identify the device you are having an issue with!
You can find both the model number and serial number on
the back of your Talk Pad.
The model and serial number for the device is placed under
the stand, lift the stand and the serial number is found here:

9. Firmware updates
From time-to-time Smartbox will issue firmware updates for
the Talk Pad speaker.
To update the firmware, download the Smartbox Link app
from the App Store.

Open the app, if a firmware update is available you will see a
button to download and update the speaker.

10. Removing the iPad
Starting with the top left corner of your Talk Pad, push the
rubber surround back to release the clip frame.
Run your finger or thumb along the top of the device and
down the sides.
Pull the clip frame and iPad from the top to remove it from the
rubber surround.
From the top left, pull the clip frame upwards gently to
remove the iPad from the frame. Do not bend the frame or
apply excessive force as this may cause damage.
