1 | INTRODUCTION
The Socket Mobile CF Card with Bluetooth Wireless
Technology makes it easy to add Bluetooth 2.0
technology with Enhanced Data Rates (EDR) to a
Pocket PC or other Windows Mobile-based device. The
CF Card is perfect for connecting Pocket PCs wirelessly
to a variety of Bluetooth enabled devices.
With the card, you can connect your Windows
Mobile-based device to Bluetooth enabled
devices such as:
•Bar code scanners
•GPS receivers
•Desktop, laptop, tablet PCs
•LAN access points
•Mobile phones and modems
•Printers
•PDAs
•Faxes
The CF Card is the only plug-in card to incorporate all Bluetooth
components, including the antenna, within the CompactFlash
Type I form factor. Compact card design means increased
portability and less chance of damage during usage. The CF Card
fits entirely within a CompactFlash slot.

•Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC or Windows Mobile 6 Classic
•Available CF slot
•Microsoft Bluetooth stack
If your host computer is running Windows 2000 or XP, software
installation requires ActiveSync 4.0 or greater for Window
Mobile 5.0 and ActiveSync 4.5 of greater for Windows Mobile 6.

This chapter explains how to install the software and hardware
for the CF Card with Bluetooth Wireless Technology.
STEP 1: Install the Software
ADVANCED USERS: Refer to the README file for CAB installation
instructions.
Note: If your mobile computer has a built-in Bluetooth radio,
installing the software will disable the built-in radio. To re-
enable the built-in radio, you must remove the Socket Mobile
software by tapping Start | Settings | Remove Programs and using
the utility.
IMPORTANT!!! Follow these steps to install the software
BEFORE inserting the card.
1. Use a serial/USB cable or cradle to make an active connection
between the mobile computer and a host PC.
•If your host computer is running Windows Vista, use the
Windows Mobile Device Center.
•If your host computer is running Windows 2000/XP,
ActiveSync 4.0 or greater is required for Windows Mobile
5.0 and ActiveSync 4.5 or greater is required for Windows
Mobile 6.
2. Insert the Socket installation CD into the host PC.

3. Use My Computer or Windows Explorer to access your CD
drive. In the CD contents, click on Setup.exe
4. The Setup Center will launch in your browser. Follow the
instructions on your screen to begin the software installation.
•Read the information in the first screen and click
Installation in the left margin.
•In the Main Page, click Install.
5. A file download dialog will appear from your web browser.
•Internet Explorer: In the File Download dialog, click Run. When
a dialog reports that the publisher is unknown, click Run.

•Firefox: In the file opening dialog, click Save File. In the
Downloads list, click Open.
Note: If your web browser warns that you are opening an EXE
file, continue opening the file anyways.
6. The installation wizard will begin. Follow the wizard to install
the software on your Windows Mobile-based device.
7. After installation, you will be prompted to soft reset your
device. Tap ok. Soft reset your device by pressing the reset
button.

STEP 2: Insert the Card
IMPORTANT! Do NOT insert the card upside down or shove
the card in too hard. Damage may occur!
Insert the card into your device’s CompactFlash slot. Make sure
the card is right-side up. Push the card all the way in. When
properly inserted, the CF Card will be fully contained within the
slot.
IMPORTANT! For instructions on using the CF Card to
connect to other Bluetooth-enabled devices, please refer
the user documentation for the Microsoft Bluetooth
software included with your mobile computer.
