Introduction
More and more devices such as flat screen TVs and computers are equipped with
digital audio outputs for connection to hi-fi systems. Digital transmission of audio
signals has many benefits. Typical applications are:
Prevention of Ground Loops
When connecting digital devices such as computers, flat screen TV sets or
satellite receivers to analogue hi-fi systems ground loops may occur. Ground
loops cause hum, noise and interference with the audio signal, thus
significantly reducing listening quality. By using optical-digital connections to
connect audio sources to amplifiers, ground loops can be efficiently avoided
(due to the galvanic separation that comes with such connections). For further
in-depth information about ground loops see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_loop_(electricity).
Connecting Digital Devices to Analogue Hi-Fi Systems
There are diverse reasons to connect a device that features both digital and
analogue outputs to an analogue system through its digital output. Many
mobile audio devices offer bad sound quality at their analogue output,
however some do feature an optical-digital output. The audio systems of
computers are usually inside the computer's housing and easily prey to
interference that can cause noise.
The applications are diverse and many, and so we are always happy to know,
how you are using the Solisto.DAC-4all.
Installation In The Car
Most of our customers use the Solisto.DAC-4all in-car without any problems.
The 12 volt car battery matches the the Solisto.DAC-4all perfectly. The
housing, fabrication and materials are identical to those of our other Solisto
Car Audio products.
Sadly, normal hi-fi systems feature no such inputs. Because of this the Solisto.DAC-
4all adds a virtual optical-digital input to your hi-fi system (or any other kind of
analogue amplifier) enabling you to use your own (or any) hi-fi system.
The Solisto.DAC-4all should be placed as close to your hi-fi system as possible.
Another advantage is the stylish, high-quality aluminium housing with a blue light at
the front indicating an audio signal is present.
