This product has been designed with the highest concern for safety.
However, any electrical device, if used improperly, has the
potential for causing fire, electrical shock or personal injury. To
help ensure accident-free operation, follow these guidelines:
•Observe all warnings, precautions and instructions.
•Stop use immediately if the device functions in an abnormal
manner, or produces unusual sounds or smells.
•Never connect cables of types other than those specified in this
instruction manual to the NETWORK connector.
•Do not touch the Network Adaptor during a lightning storm as
this may expose you to the risk of electrical shock.
•If the device does not function properly, please contact the
appropriate PlayStation®customer service helpline which can be
found within every PlayStation®and PlayStation®2 format
software manual.
Use and handling
•Do not throw or drop the Network Adaptor, or subject it to
strong physical shock.
•Do not place the Network Adaptor on surfaces that are unstable,
tilted or subject to vibration.
•Never move or change the position of a console with a Network
Adaptor installed while it is switched on.
•Do not expose the Network Adaptor to high temperatures, high
humidity or direct sunlight. (Operate in an environment where
temperatures range between 5°C – 35°C.)
•Do not place the Network Adaptor in locations subject to sudden
temperature change (e.g. temperature changes of 10°C per hour
or more).
•Do not use the Network Adaptor in a dusty location.
•Do not allow liquid or small particles to get into the Network
Adaptor.

12
Precautions (continued)
• Do not place the Network Adaptor too close to magnetic fields
such as those produced by magnets, loudspeakers or television
sets.
•Never disassemble or modify the Network Adaptor.
•Do not put heavy objects onto the Network Adaptor.
• Do not touch the metal parts or insert foreign objects into the
connectors of the Network Adaptor.
•When you do not intend to use the unit for an extended period of
time, disconnect the mains power plug for the PlayStation®2

pass through the connector, causing a malfunction, excessive heat
or fire in the connector:
•Network cables of types other than 100Base-TX and 10Base-T
•Normal telephone lines
•The jack of an ISDN (digital) compatible public phone
•PBX phone lines

Moisture condensation
If brought directly from a cold location to a warm one, moisture
may condense on the outside or inside of the Network Adaptor.
Should this occur, the Network Adaptor may not operate properly.
In this case, turn the PlayStation®2 console off using the MAIN
POWER switch on the console rear, and disconnect the mains
power plug from the mains power socket until the moisture
evaporates (this could take several hours). If the console or
Network Adaptor still does not operate properly after this period of
time, please contact the appropriate PlayStation®customer service
helpline which can be found within every PlayStation®and
PlayStation®2 format software manual.
Cleaning the Network Adaptor
For safety reasons, before cleaning the Network Adaptor, 1) turn off
the PlayStation®2 console using the MAIN POWER switch, 2)
disconnect the mains power plug from the mains power socket and,
3) remove the network cable from the Network Adaptor.
•Do not use benzene or paint thinner to clean the exterior of the
Network Adaptor since these may damage the surface or cause
the paint to peel off. When using a chemically-treated dust cloth,
follow the usage instructions supplied with it.
•If the exterior of the Network Adaptor becomes dirty, soak a soft
cloth in a mild detergent solution diluted with water, tightly
squeeze the cloth to remove the excess liquid, wipe the affected
area of the exterior, and finish by wiping with a dry cloth.
Never disassemble the Network Adaptor
Use the Network Adaptor in accordance with this instruction
manual. No authorisation for the analysis or modification of
the Network Adaptor, or the analysis and use of its circuit
