Welcome to the
Sony Xperia™ Z
This Quick Start Guide tells
you how to set up your
Sony Xperia™ Z and use
its key features.
How to Turn on
the Device
To turn on your phone to
start, press and hold the
Power key.
Follow the instructions to
set up your phone. To turn
the phone off, press and
hold the Power key. A
Power off message will
appear –tap Power off and
then tap OK.
How to Change
Your Profile
(Ringtone)
1.From the Home screen,
tap the Apps icon.
2.Scroll to and tap
Settings.
3.Tap Sound.
4.Tap Phone ringtone.
5.Tap the desired ringtone.
6.Tap Done.
How to
Answer a Call
1.When you receive a call,
the Incoming Call screen
opens.
2.Tap, hold and drag the
green phone to the right.
3.To end the call, tap the
red phone icon.
How to Add a
Direct Dial to the
Home Screen
1.On the Home screen you
wish to add a Direct Dial,
long press a clear area on
the screen until the Task
bar appears at the
bottom of the screen.
2.Tap Widgets.
3.Tap Contact.
4.Scroll to and tap the
desired contact you wish
to add as a direct dial.
5.Tap the Home screen.
6.To call the contact, tap
the Direct Dial widget
and tap the phone
number.
How to Send a
Text/MMS
Message
1.From the Home screen,
tap the Messaging icon.
2.Tap the New message
icon.
3.In the To field, enter the
recipient’s phone number,
or tap the Contacts icon
to select from the
contacts list and tap
Done.
4.Tap the Write message
field.
5.Enter the desired
message.
6.To include an attachment
to your text message and
create an MMS, tap the
Attach (paper clip) icon.
7.Tap the desired
attachment type, i.e. Add
picture.
8.Tap the desired folder and
tap the image you want to
attach to the message.
9.To send the text message
or MMS, tap the Send
icon.

Tap to download more
apps.

Tap to view your list of
preloaded and downloaded
apps.
Messaging:
Tap here to send an SMS or
MMS and view your
conversational threads.
Media:
Tap this icon to easily access
the multimedia features on

Tap here to make a call, to
view your contacts and
more.
Your Telecom:
Tap this icon to view your
data usage and to top up
your account.
Google Maps
Tap this icon to view Google
Maps and discover more
about your current location.

Tap to quickly access the
Walkman Music Player.

How to Set Up
Yahoo! New
Zealand Email
Address
1. From the Home screen,
tap the Apps
icon.
2. Tap Email.
3. If there is more than one
email account, tap the
Menu key > Settings >
Add Account.
4. Enter your Yahoo! New
Zealand email address.
5. Tap the Password field.
6. Enter your password
details. Tap Manual
Setup.
7. Tap POP3.
8. Tap the Username field
and enter your
Username details.
9. Tap the Password field
and enter your password
details.
10.Tap the POP3 Server
field and enter the POP
Server details (i.e.
pop3.yahoo.co.nz).
11.Ensure the Port
Number is set to 110.
12.Tap to select the desired
security type.
13.Tap the Delete Email
from Server) field and
select the desired option.
14.Tap the SMTP Server
field and enter
send.yahoo.co.nz
15.Tap the Port field and
ensure the port number
is sent to 587.
16.Tap the Security Type
field and select the
desired type.
17.Tap the Username field
and enter your
Username details.
18.Tap the Password field
and enter your password
details.
19.Tap Next.
20.Select the desired option
for the Inbox Check
Frequency field and tap
OK.
21.Tap to select the desired
checkboxes for the
required settings and tap
Next.
22.Tap Yes.
23.In the Set Account
Name (Optional) field,
delete the existing name
and enter the name of
the email provider.
24.Tap the Your Name
(Displayed on
Outgoing Messages)
field and enter the name
you wish to appear when
sending emails.
25.Tap Next.
26.Wait whil the emails
sync and the setup is
completed.
27.Your inbox is now setup
for use.
How to Connect
to Your Social
Networking
Account, i.e.
Facebook
1. From the Home
screen, tap the
Apps icon.
2. Tap Facebook.
3. Tap the Email field.
4. Enter your Facebook
email address.
5. Tap the Password field.
6. Enter your Facebook
password.
7. Tap Login.
8. Tap the desired
checkboxes for required
synching settings. Tap
Sync.
9. If prompted, tap No
Thanks to skip.
10.Your facebook account is
now setup for use.
How to Connect
to a Wi-Fi
Network
1. From the Home screen,
tap the Apps icon.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Wi-Fi.
4. Tap the Wi-Fi slider so it
is switched to ON.
5. Tap Wi-Fi.
6. Tap Scan. A list of
detected Wi-Fi networks
will be displayed.
7. Tap the desired network
you wish to connect
with.
8. If the network is
secured, enter the
password.
9. Tap Connect.
How to Use Your
Telecom to View
and Plan Your
Usage
1. From the Home screen,
tap the Your Telecom
icon.
2. Tap Accept and
Continue for the terms
and conditions
3. Tap No Thanks
4. Your data usage will be
displayed.
5. To view your plan, tap
Plans & Activities.
6. Your plan details will be
displayed.
Note:You will need to login
to your account if you are
on a Wi-Fi network to
access Your Telecom.
