Installing the battery pack
Your cameraoperatesonly with the“InfoLITHIUM” NP-FM50 batterypack* (M
series).You cannotuseanyotherbattery pack. Seepage85 for more information
about“InfoLITHIUM” batterypack.
@ Openthe battery/“Memory Stick” cover.
Slidethe cover in the direction of the arrow.
Q Install the battery pack.
Insert thebatterypackwith the A mark facing toward thebattery compartment
asillustrated.

To remove the battery pack
Open the battery/“Memory Stick” cover. Slide the battery eject lever
downward, and remove the battery pack.
Be careful not to dropthebatterypackwhen removing it.

Charging the battery pack
You cannotchargethebattery pack while your camerais turnedon. Be sureto turn
off your camera.
0 Insert the battery pack into your camera.
@ Openthe DCINjack cover and connect the DCconnecting cableto
the DCINjack of your camera with the A mark facing up.
0 Connect the power cord (mains lead)to the AC power adaptor and
then to a wall outlet (mains).
Thebattery indicator 01 flasheswhen chargingbegins.When the flashing
stopsandthe FULL indicator appearsin thedisplay window, chargingis
completed.
After charging the battery pack
Disconnectthe AC power adaptorfrom theDC IN jack onyour camera.
Battery remaining indicator
The LCD screenon thecamerashowstheremainingtime for which you canstill
recordor play back images.
This indication maynot beentirely accuratedependingon theconditions of useand
the operatingenvironment.
Chargingat 10°Cto 30°C (50°F to 86°F) circumstancesis recommended.

NPFM50 battery pack
Whenyou record imagesin anextremely cold location or usingthe LCD screen,the
operatingtime becomesshort.Whenusingthe camerain anextremelycold location,
placethebattery pack in your pocketor other placeto keepit warm, theninsert the
battery pack into thecamerajust beforerecording. Whenusingapocketheater,take
carenot to let theheaterdirectly contactthe battery.

Using the AC power adaptor
@ Open the DC IN jack cover and connect the DC connecting cable to
the DC IN jack of your camera with the A mark facing up.
@ Connect the wer cord (mains lead) to the AC power adaptor and
then to a wal outlet (mains).

Using a car battery
Use Sony DC adaptor/charger (not supplied).
When using the AC power adaptor
Be sure to use it near the wall outlet. If a malfunction occurs, disconnect the plug
from the wall outlet.

Setting the date and time
Whenyou first useyour camera,setthe dateandtime. If thesearenot set,the
CLOCK SET screenappearswheneveryou turn on your camera.

Insert the “Memory Stick” with the b mark facing toward the battery
compartment as illustrated until it clicks.
0 Close the battery/“Memory Stick” cover.
Open the battery/“Memory Stick” cover, then press the “Memory Stick” once lightly.
Notes
l Insertthe“Memory Stick” firmly until it clicks, otherwiseamessagesuchas“MEMORY
STICK ERROR” will bedisplayed.
l Neverremovethe“Memory Stick” or turn off thepowerwhile theaccesslampis lit up.

How to use the mode dial

Recording still images
Still imagesarerecordedin JPEGformat.
Before recordingstill images,slide the POWER switch in thedirection of thearrow
to turn on thepower andinserta“Memory Stick.”
0 Setthe mode dial to m, S,A, Mor SW.
0 Press and hold the shutter button halfway down.
The imagefreezesmomentarily, but is not yet recorded.While theAEiAF lock
is flashing, the cameraautomatically adjuststhe exposureand
capturedimage. Whenthe merafinishesthe automatic
adjustments,theAE/AF lock indicator stopsflashing, thenlights up andthe
camerais readyfor recording.*

Auto powelcoff function
If you do not operatethe camerafor aboutthreeminutesduring recording or
playback,the cameraturnsoff automaticallyto preventwearing down thebattery.To
usethecameraagain,slidethePOWER switch in thedirection of thearrow to turn on
the cameraagain.The autopower-off function only operateswhen thecamerais
operatingusingabatterypack.Theautopower-off alsowill notoperatewhenplaying
backmoving imagesor playing backa SLIDE SHOW (page68) or when a
connectoris pluggedinto theUSBjack, the DC IN jack or theA/V OUT jack.
