Attention-when the product is installed in Rack:
1. Prevention against overloading of branch circuit
When this product is installed in a rack and is
supplied power from an outlet on the rack, please
make sure that the rack does not overload the supply
circuit.
2. Providing protective earth
When this product is installed in a rack and is
supplied power from an outlet on the rack, please
confirm that the outlet is provided with a suitable
protective earth connection.
3. Internal air ambient temperature of the rack
When this product is installed in a rack, please make
sure that the internal air ambient temperature of the
rack is within the specified limit of this product.
4. Prevention against achieving hazardous
condition due to uneven mechanical loading
When this product is installed in a rack, please
make sure that the rack does not achieve hazardous
condition due to uneven mechanical loading.
5. Install the equipment while taking the operating
temperature of the equipment into consideration
For the operating temperature of the equipment, refer
to the specifications of the Operation Manual.
6. When performing the installation, keep the
following space away from walls in order to
obtain proper exhaust and radiation of heat.
Lower, Upper: 4.4 cm (1 3/4 inches) or more
Right, Left: 1.0 cm (13/32 inches) or more

Purpose of this manual
This manual is the Service Manual of the Professional Video Monitor BVM-E171. This manual describes the information
on the premise of providing the block level service (service overview, periodic replacement parts and cleaning,
troubleshooting, replacement of board and main parts, upgrade, maintenance menu, circuit description, spare parts, block
diagrams, frame wiring).

Service Overview
1-1. Precaution for Transporting
When transporting this unit, use the packaging materials supplied with this unit in order to prevent damage due to the
vibration and shock.
• Keep the packaging materials removed when this unit is delivered and installed. Do not discard them.
• Before packaging this unit, put it in the protection bag.

1-3. Conductive Cushion
Put a monitor on the conductive cushion as shown in the figure below.
This prevents the panel or bezel assembly from being damaged.
Use a conductive material to prevent static electricity.

A conductive cushion is not described in the illustration of replacement procedure.

1-4. Preparation for Service
1-4-1. Preparing Upgrade Data
To upgrade the firmware, the upgrade data is necessary.
For obtaining the upgrade data, contact your local Sony Sales Office/Service Center.
Equipment required
• Personal computer (PC)
OS: Windows 7 or Windows8, Windows8.1
• USB flash drive
Note
Be sure to use the file system FAT32 to initialize the USB flash drive. Upgrading USB flash drive that was initialized
by another means may fail.
Preparation
1. Login the PC.
2. Connect the USB flash drive.
Procedure
1. Copy the upgrade data from the PC to the USB flash drive.
Note
Copy the MSSONY folder including the upgrade data immediately under the root directory of the drive.

1-4-3. Check of USB Flash Drive Data
After copying the version upgrade data from PC to USB flash drive, check if the data is correctly copied by using the
checksum.
Equipment required
• Personal computer (PC)
OS: Windows 7 or Windows8, Windows8.1
• USB flash drive (Upgrade data is stored.)
Preparation
1. Login the PC.
2. Connect the USB flash drive to the PC.
Procedure
1. Double-click the following file in the USB flash drive and confirm that copied data is stored normally in the USB
flash drive.
• Software upgrade of the monitor
- Location: MSSONY/MONITOR/BVM_E1/UPDATES/SOFT/BVM_Exxx (BVM_Exxx is the model
name.)
- File name: checksum_soft.bat
• Software upgrade of the controller
- Location: MSSONY/MONITOR/BKM/UPDATES/SOFT/BKM_17R
- File name: checksum_soft.bat
• Kernel upgrade of the monitor
- Location: MSSONY/MONITOR/BVM_E1/UPDATES/KERNEL/BVM_Exxx (BVM_Exxx is the
model name.)
- File name: checksum_kernel.bat
• Kernel upgrade of the controller
- Location: MSSONY/MONITOR/BKM/UPDATES/KERNEL/BKM_17R
- File name: checksum_kernel.bat
• FPGA upgrade of the monitor
- Location: MSSONY/MONITOR/BVM_E1/UPDATES/FPGA/ BVM_Exxx (BVM_Exxx is the model
name.)
- File name: checksum_kernel.bat

1-4-4. PC Setting
When upgrading the software, kernel, and FPGAs or performing process after replacing the each board or OLED
module, make the PC setting.
Equipment required
• Personal computer (PC)
OS: Windows 7 or Windows8, Windows8.1
• LAN cable (cross cable)
Note
This section describes with an example of the updating procedure in Windows 7. In the Windows OS except Windows7,
the screen display may be different.
Procedure
1. Boot the PC.
2. Set Wi-Fi to OFF.
3. Click [Start], click [Control Panel], click [Network and Sharing Center], and then click [Change adapter settings].
4. Right-click [Local Area Connection] and select [Properties].
The Local Area Connection Properties screen appears.

5. Select [Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)] and click the [Properties] button.
6. Enter “192.168.0.10” in the [IP address] field, enter “255.255.255.0” in the [Subnet mask] field, and then click the
[OK] button.

7. Click [OK].
The Local Area Connection Properties screen closes.

The freeware software FFFTP is used in this section as FTP client software.

Procedure
1. Run the FFFTP.

2. Select host setting and make the following settings.
On the General tab:

• Profile name: (Arbitrary)
• Host Name (Address): 192.168.0.1
•Username:*1
•Password/Phrase:*1
• Anonymous: Do not select this checkbox.
• Initial Local Folder: Specify the folder where the file to be transferred is stored.
• Initial Host Folder: /flb0
On the Special tab:
• Use LIST command to get file list: Do not select this checkbox.
• Use NLST-R for high-speed recursive search: Select this checkbox.
• Do not use full path to access files: Do not select this checkbox.
• Permissions Change Command: SITE CHMOD
• Host Type: ShibaSoku WL
• NLST Filename: -alL
3. Click [OK].
