NOTES ON CHIP COMPONENT REPLACEMENT
• Never reuse a disconnected chip component.
• Notice that the minus side of a tantalum capacitor may be dam-
aged by heat.
FLEXIBLE CIRCUIT BOARD REPAIRING
• Keep the temperature of soldering iron around 270 °C during
repairing.
• Do not touch the soldering iron on the same conductor of the
circuit board (within 3 times).
• Be careful not to apply force on the conductor when soldering
or unsoldering.
SAFETY CHECK-OUT
After correcting the original service problem, perform the follow-
ing safety check before releasing the set to the customer:
Check the antenna terminals, metal trim, “metallized” knobs,
screws, and all other exposed metal parts for AC leakage.
Check leakage as described below.
LEAKAGE TEST
The AC leakage from any exposed metal part to earth ground and
from all exposed metal parts to any exposed metal part having a
return to chassis, must not exceed 0.5 mA (500 microamperes.).
Leakage current can be measured by any one of three methods.
1. A commercial leakage tester, such as the Simpson 229 or RCA
WT-540A. Follow the manufacturers’ instructions to use these
instruments.
2. A battery-operated AC milliammeter. The Data Precision 245
digital multimeter is suitable for this job.
3. Measuring the voltage drop across a resistor by means of a
VOM or battery-operated AC voltmeter. The “limit” indication
is 0.75 V, so analog meters must have an accurate low-voltage
scale. The Simpson 250 and Sanwa SH-63Trd are examples
of a passive VOM that is suitable. Nearly all battery operated
digital multimeters that have a 2 V AC range are suitable. (See
Fig. A)

SERVICING NOTES
NOTES ON HANDLING THE OPTICAL PICK-UP
BLOCK OR BASE UNIT
The laser diode in the optical pick-up block may suffer electro-
static break-down because of the potential difference generated by
the charged electrostatic load, etc. on clothing and the human body.
During repair, pay attention to electrostatic break-down and also
use the procedure in the printed matter which is included in the
repair parts.
The flexible board is easily damaged and should be handled with
care.
NOTES ON LASER DIODE EMISSION CHECK
The laser beam on this model is concentrated so as to be focused
on the disc reflective surface by the objective lens in the optical
pickup block. Therefore, when checking the laser diode emission,
observe from more than 30 cm away from the objective lens.
UNLEADED SOLDER
Boards requiring use of unleaded solder are printed with the lead-
free mark (LF) indicating the solder contains no lead.
(Caution: Some printed circuit boards may not come printed with
the lead free mark due to their particular size)
: LEAD FREE MARK
Unleaded solder has the following characteristics.
• Unleaded solder melts at a temperature about 40 °C higher
than ordinary solder.
Ordinary soldering irons can be used but the iron tip has to be
applied to the solder joint for a slightly longer time.
Soldering irons using a temperature regulator should be set to
about 350 °C.
Caution: The printed pattern (copper foil) may peel away if
the heated tip is applied for too long, so be careful!
• Strong viscosity
Unleaded solder is more viscous (sticky, less prone to flow)
than ordinary solder so use caution not to let solder bridges
occur such as on IC pins, etc.
• Usable with ordinary solder
It is best to use only unleaded solder but unleaded solder may
also be added to ordinary solder.
NOTE OF PERFORMING THE OPERATION CHECK IN
THE STATE THAT HEAT SINK WAS REMOVED
When performing the operation check in the state that this unit was
disassembled, it is possible to perform the operation check in the
state that heat sink was removed. But don’t perform the operation
check in the long time, and perform the operation check in the
volume state as low as possible.
CAPACITOR ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE PROCESSING
When checking the board, the electrical discharge is necessary for
the electric shock prevention.
Connect the resistor to between terminals of respective capacitors.

NOTE OF REPLACING THE TUNER BOARD
(HCD-SX7 only)
When the TUNER board is defective, replace the complete mount-
ed board. The individual mounted electrical parts cannot replace
and repair.
NOTE OF REPLACING THE DAB BOARD
(HCD-SX7B only)
When the DAB board is defective, replace the complete mounted
board. The individual mounted electrical parts cannot replace and
repair.
NOTE OF REPLACING THE MS-476 BOARD
When the MS-476 board is defective, replace the CDM90 ASSY
(Ref. No. CDM1).
NOTE OF REPLACING THE IC201, IC202, IC203,
IC204, IC502 AND IC605 ON THE MAIN BOARD
IC201, IC202, IC203, IC204, IC502 and IC605 on the MAIN
board cannot replace with single. When these parts are damaged,
replace the complete mounted board.
The SERVICING NOTES contains important information for servicing. Be sure to read this section before repairing the unit.

NOTE OF REPLACING THE COMPLETE NETWORK
BOARD AND CARD WLAN/BT COMBO
When needing to replace the complete NETWORK board or card
WLAN/BT combo, be sure to carry out the following contents.
1. Be sure to replace the complete NETWORK board and card
WLAN/BT combo simultaneously.
2. When replacing the complete NETWORK board and card
WLAN/BT combo, peel the device ID label stuck on the bot-
tom side of the unit, and stick on the device ID label enclosed
with the new part (Refer to the figure below).

3. When replacing the complete NETWORK board and card
WLAN/BT combo, refer to “CHECKING OF NETWORK
CONNECTION”.
4. When replacing the complete NETWORK board and card
WLAN/BT combo, the MAC address and DTCP-IP ID have
been changed.
Print the page 7 and page 9, cut it, and hand over it to the cus-
tomer with the unit, when returning the unit that the repair is
completed to the customer.
CHECKING OF NETWORK CONNECTION
When replacing the following parts, be sure to carry out the con-
nection check of network (wired/wireless).
Target parts:
• Complete NETWORK board and card WLAN/BT combo
Note 1: Be sure to replace the two parts simultaneously.
• Complete MAIN board
• IC206, IC601, IC608, IC609, IC610 and IC705 on the MAIN
board
• Antenna (Ref. No. ANT1) (wireless connection check only)
Note 2: When replaced the MAIN board or IC206 on the MAIN
board, refer to the “Wi-Fi Startup Guide” of supplied with
this unit and check the operation of AirPlay in iPhone etc.
1. Checking the wireless LAN connection

Procedure:
1. Check that network LAN cable is not connected to the unit.

8. Press the [WPS] button on the access point.
9. When wireless LAN connection is started, “Connecting” flash-

appears for a moment on the liquid crystal display, and then
“ ” lights up on the liquid crystal display.
11. Press the [@/1] button to turn the power off.

2. Checking the wired LAN connection
Necessary Equipment:

• Network LAN cable
Procedure:
1. Connect the unit to the router with the network LAN cable.
2. Press the [@/1] button to turn the power on.

RELEASING THE DISC TRAY LOCK
The disc tray lock function for the antitheft of sample disc in the
shop is equipped.
Lock function can be releasing by the following procedure.
Releasing Procedure:
1. Press the [@/1] button to turn the power on.
2. Press the [MENU] button, then rotate [– TUNING + .
>] dial to select the “Function Select” and press the
[PUSH ENTER] button, then rotate [– TUNING + .
>] dial to select the CD function and press the [PUSH EN-
TER] button.
3. Press two buttons of the [BACK] and [@/1] simultaneously for
fi ve seconds.
4. The message “UNLOCKED” is displayed on the liquid crystal
display and the disc tray is unlocked.
Note: When “LOCKED” is displayed, the disc tray lock is not released by
turning power on/off with the [@/1] button.
CHECKING THE OPERATION AFTER REPAIR
After repair completion, connect the “iPod”, “Walkman”, “smart-
phone” etc. corresponding to this unit, and check the operation of
playback, charge etc.
