The RM-C950 remote control unit is designed to be used with Sony
3CCD color video cameras.
The unit plugs into the REMOTE (remote) connector of the
following cameras:
* DXC-950
* DXC-950P
* DXC-970MD
Be sure to also read the instruction manuals for the connected video
cameras when using this unit.
For customers in the U.S.A.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the
limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC
Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable
protection against harmful interference when the equipment is
operated in a commercial environment. This equipment
generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if
not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual,
may cause harmful interference to radio communications.
Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause
harmful interference in which case the user will be required to
correct the interference at his own expense.
You are cautioned that any changes or modifications not
expressly approved in this manual could void your authority to
operate this equipment.
The shielded interface cable recommended in this manual must

Precautions
This Sony product has been designed with safety in mind.
However, if not used properly, electrical products can cause
fires which may lead to serious bodily injury.
To avoid such accidents, be sure to heed the following.
In case of a breakdown
In case of unit breakdown, discontinue use and contact your
authorized Sony dealer.
In case of abnormal operation
* If the unit emits smoke, unusual sounds or smells,
¢ If water or other foreign objects enter the cabinet, or
¢ If you drop the unit or damage the cabinet:
1 Cutthe power supplied to the unit.
2 Disconnect the connector cable.
3 Contact your authorized Sony dealer or the store where
you purchased the product.

To ensure the safe operation of this unit, be sure to heed the
following precautions.
Do not allow foreign matter to enter the unit
Allowing water or other foreign matter to enter the cabinet
may lead to fire. If water or other foreign objects happen to
enter the cabinet, switch off the power supplied to the unit,
disconnect the DC power/connection cable and contact your
authorized Sony dealer.
Do not dismantle or modify the unit
Disassembly or modification of the unit may lead to fire,
and/or injury. Leave all adjustments, inspections and repairs
of internal components to your authorized Sony dealer.
Use recommended power supplies
Be sure to use the power supply specified in this manual.
An unspecified power supply used with this unit may
become a fire hazard.
Use recommended DC cables and connection
cables
Use of DC cables and connection cables other than those
specified in this manual may lead to fire.
Do not install or operate in environments
subject to high levels of smoke, aceamn,
humidity or oil
Operation in any of the above environments may lead to
fire. Use of this product in environments other than those
specified in this manual may lead to fire.

Do not place the unit on an unstable base
The unit may fall, causing physical injury if used in any of
the following places:
* On top of a shaky, unstable table
* On inclined surfaces
* In places subject to vibration or shock
Check that the place of attachment is strong enough to
support the weight of this unit, and that the unit and
attachment device are secure.
Disconnect the DC/connection cable before
moving the unit
If the unit is moved with the DC/ connection cable still
attached, the cable may be damaged, resulting in fire.
Operating or storage location
Avoid operating or storing the unit in the following
locations:
¢ Extremely hot or cold places (Operation temperature:
—5°C to +45°C [23°F to 113°F])
* In direct sunlight for long periods, or close to heating
equipment (e.g., near heaters)
* Close to sources of strong magnetism
*
Close
to
sources
of
powerful
electromagnetic
radiation,
such
as
radios
or
TV
transmitters
Ventilation
To prevent internal heat buildup, do not block air
circulation around the unit.
Transportation
When
transporting
the
unit,
repack
it
as
originally
packed
at
the
factory
or
in
materials
equal
in
quality.
Cleaning
* Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the external surfaces of the
unit. If it is very dirty, use a soft cloth dampened with a
small quantity of neutral detergent, then wipe dry.
* Do not use volatile solvents such as alcohol, benzene or
thinners as they may damage the surface finish.
Precautions
when
connecting
to
a
camera
Before connecting the DXC-950/950P/970MD camera to
the
RM-C950,
be
sure
to
set
the
baud
rate
in
the
camera
to
9600. You will not be able to adjust the baud rate after the
camera is connected. The camera can only be controlled
with a baud rate of 9600.

Switch to AUTO to set to automatic adjustment mode.
Switch to MANUAL to allow the iris to be adjusted
manually with the IRIS knob. The MANUAL indicator
lights up when in the manual mode.

Adjusts the iris manually.
Turn towards the & CLOSE side to close the iris.
Turn towards the @ OPEN side to open the iris.
When adjusting the iris manually, set the IRIS AUTO/
MANUAL switch to MANUAL.
@ ZOOM (zoom adjustment) knob
Adjusts the zoom.
Turn towards the WIDE side to increase the scope of the
image.
Turn towards the TELE side to decrease the scope of the
image.
The ZOOM knob only operates when the zoom lens VCL-
712BXEA (not supplied) or the VCL-716BXEA (not
supplied) has been attached.
For details, refer to the instruction manuals accompanying
each lens.
@® & FOCUS (focus adjustment) knob
Adjusts the FOCUS.
Turn towards the NEAR side to bring objects close to the
camera into focus.
Tum towards the FAR side to bring objects far from the
camera into focus.
The focus knob only operates when the zoom lens VCL-
712BXEA (not supplied) or the VCL-716BXEA (not
supplied) has been attached.
For details, refer to the instruction manuals of each lens.
@ i PRINT (print) button
Outputs the image data to a printer or a printer memory in
connector when the “Printer Trig.” on the video cameras
DXC-950/950P/970MD (not supplied) is set to “on.”
For details on connecting with a printer, refer to the
instruction manuals for the DXC-950/950P/970MD video
cameras.

@® LOCK (lock) button and LOCK (lock) indicator
Locks the settings of knobs @ to @.
The LOCK indicator lights up when the settings have been
locked.
@ MASTER PEDESTAL (pedestal level) knob
Adjusts the output signal pedestal level for the R, G, B
channels simultaneously.
@® DETAIL (outline sharpness) knob
Adjusts the sharpness of outlines in the picture.
@® GAIN (gain) knob
Adjusts the level of video output signals to compensate for
poor lighting conditions. The GAIN knob only works when
the “Gain” setting of the video camera. DXC-950/950P/
970MD (not supplied) has been set to “step”. The gain may
be set from 0 dB to 18 dB.
@ «2 GAIN RED/BLUE (white balance adjustment)
knob
Adjusts the white balance.
RED: Adjusts the red gain.
BLUE: Adjusts the blue gain.
The GAIN RED/BLUE knob only operates when the
“WHT. Bal” setting of the DXC-950/950P/970MD video
camera (not supplied) has been set to “manu”.
If you switch the <1 CAMERA/[2] REMOTE switch to
CAMERA or disconnect the control cable after setting
knobs @ to @ on the remote control unit, the settings will
revert back to those previously set in the camera.
<1 CAMERA connector
There are two screw holes in the bottom of the unit. These
allow the unit to be attached to a rack. For details on usage,
contact the store where you purchased the unit, or your
authorized Sony dealer.

Connects to the remote connector on the video camera

connector cable.
