Soundmodeswith virtual elements.
With theDigital CinemaSoundmodes,speaker
position is not ascritical asothermodes.All modes
with virtual elementsweredesignedunderthe
premisethatthesurroundspeakerwould belocated
behindthelistening position, but presentationremains
fairly consistentevenwith thesurroundspeakers
positionedat aratherwide angle.However,if the
speakersarepointing towardsthelistenerfrom the
immediateleft andright of thelistening position, the
soundfields with virtual elementswill notbe
effective unlessthesurroundspeakerpositlon
parameteris setto “PL. SIDE”.
Nevertheless,eachlisteningenvironmenthasman)
variables,like wall reflections,andyou mayobtain
betterresultsusing“PL. MID” and“PL. BEHD.” if
your speakersarelocatedhigh abovethelistening
position,evenif theyareto theimmediateleft and
right.
Therefore,althoughit mayresultin asettingcontrary
to the“Surround speakerposition” explanation,we
recommendthatyou playbackmulti channelsurround
encodedsoftwareandlisten to theeffect eachsetting
hason your listening environment.Choosethesetting
thatprovidesagoodsenseof spaciousnessandthat
bestsucceedsin forming acohesivespacebetween
thesurroundsoundfrom thesurroundspeakersand
thesoundof thefront speakers.If you arenot sure
which soundsbest,select“PL. BEHD.” andthenuse
thespeakerdistanceparameterandspeakerlevel
adjustmentsto obtainproperbalance.
Only when you use the speaker system
other than the supplied one, be sure to
set the following parameters.

If you connect large speakersthat will
effectively reproduce bassfrequencies, select
“LARGE”. Normally, select “LARGE”.

If the sound is distorted, or you feel a lack of
surround effects when using multi channel
surround sound, select “SMALL” to activate
the bassredirection circuitry and output the
front channel bassfrequencies from the sub
- When the front speakersare set to “SMALL”,
the center and surround speakersare also
automatically setto “SMALL” (unless
previously setto “NO”).
