Getting Started
Hooking up the system securely
® Speaker cord (Red/<±))
® Speaker cord (Black/G)
© AM loop antenna
@ FM lead antenna (Extend it horizontally.)
® Brown side for other regions
® White side for North American model
mSpeakers
Insert only the stripped portion of the
speaker cords into the SPEAKER jacks.
mAntennas
Find alocation and an orientation that
provide good reception, and then set up
the antenna.
Keep the antennas away from the speaker
cords
and the power cord to avoid
picking up noise.

[iPower
Connect the power cord to awall socket.
If the plug does not fit the wallsocket,
detach the supplied plug adaptor (only
for models equipped with an adaptor).
When carrying this system
1 Remove adisc to protectthe CD
mechanism.
2 Press CD rID to select the CD
function ..
3Hold down TUNER/BAND rnJ and
DSGX I12l on the unit, and press ~ ~
on the unit until "STANDBY" appears.
4After "LOCK" appears, unplug the
power cord.
To use the remote
Slide and remove the battery
compartment lid ~, and insert the two
supplied R6 (size AA) batteries, •side
first, matching the polarities shown
below.
Notes
•With normal use, the batteries should last for
about six months.
•
Do not mix an old battery with anew one or
mix different types of batteries.
•
If you do not use the remote for along period
of time, remove the batteries to avoid damage
from batteryleakage and corrosion.
Setting the clock
Use buttons on the remote to set the
clock.
1 Press I/e:> [] to turn on the
system.
2 Press CLOCKfTIMER SET 111l.
If the current mode appears on .
the display, press ~/ ... ~
repeatedly to select "CLOCK SET"
and then press ENTER MI.
3 Press ...... /~ ~ repeatedly
to set the
hour, and then press
ENTER IHI.
4 Use the same procedure to set
the minutes.
The dock settings are lost when you
disconnect the power cord or ifa
power failure occurs.
To display the dock when the system
is off
Press DISPLAY!1Q]. The clock is displayed
for about 8seconds.

Basic Operations
Playing a CD/MP3 disc
1 Select the CD function.
Press CD rnJ.
2 Place a disc.
Press ~ ~ on the unit, and place
adisc with the label side up
on the
disc tray.
To close the disc tray, press ~ ~ on
the unit again.
Do not force the disc tray closed with
your finger, as this may damage the
unit.
3 Start playback.
Press ~ (or CD ~II on the unit)
rnJ.
4 Adjust the volume.
Press VOLUME +/- (or VOL +/- on
the unit)

play ("PGM").
* When playing aCD-DA disc, E:J (SHUF)
Play performs
the same operation as normal
(shuffle) play.

To stop automatic scanning
Press. Ij]].
4Adjust the volume.
Press VOLUME +/- (or VOL +/- on
the unit) 11§].
Listening to the radio
1Select"FM" or "AM:'
Press TUNER/BAND [ID repeatedly.
2Select the tuning mode.
Press TUNING MODE Ill] repeatedly
until 'AUTO" appears.
3Tune in the desired station.
Press +/- (or TUNE +/- on
the unit) !1§]. Scanning stops
automatically when astation is tuned
in, and then "TUNED" and·"ST" (for
stereo programs only) appear.

Notes on Repeat Play
•All tracks or files on adisc are played
repeatedly up to
five times.
•"REP1" indicates that asingle track
or file is
repeated until you stop it.
Notes on playing MP3 discs
• Do not save other types of files or
unnecessary folders on adisc that has MP3
files.
•Folders
that have no MP3 files are skipped.
•MP3 files are played back in the order that
they are recorded onto the disc.
•The system can onlyplay MP3 files that have
afile extension
of ".MP3".
• If there are files on the disc that have the
".MP3"
file extension, but that are not MP3
files,
the unit may produce noise or may
malfunction.
•The
maximum number of:
-folders is 255 (including the root folder).
-MP3 files is 511.
-MP3 files
and folders that can be
contained on asingle disc
is 512.
-folder levels (the tree structure of files) is
8.
•Compatibilitywith all MP3 encoding/writing
software, recording device, and recording
media cannot be guaranteed. Incompatible
MP3 discs may produce noise
or interrupted
audio
or may not play at all.
Notes on playing multisession discs
• If the disc begins with aCD-DA (or MP3)
session, it is recognized
as aCD-DA (or
MP3) disc, and
other sessions are not played.

To tune in a station with a weak signal
If "TUNED" does not appear and the
scanning20es not stop, press TUNING
MODE I11J repeatedly until 'AUTO" and
"PRESET" disappear, and then press
+/ -(or TUNE +/ - on the unit) ~
repeatedly to tune in the desired station.
To reduce static noise on a weak FM
stereo station
Press FM MODE 11m repeatedly until
"MONO" appears to turn offstereo
reception.

Using the Bluetooth
funrtion
This system supports Bluetooth A2DP
and AVRCP profiles. For details on
Bluetooth wireless technology, see
"Bluetooth wireless technology" (page
32).

To cancel passcode entry partway
Press. ~.
4· Enter the passcode.
Passcode entry may be required
depending on the type of Bluetooth
device.
When "PIN" appears, enter the
passcode at the system as follows:
Press ~ /~ and .... /~ on the
remote (or LJ +/- and ~ .... /
~~ on the unit) ~ to enter the
same passcode that was entered at
the Bluetooth device, and then press
ENTERMl.
Once pairing is completed and the
connection is established, the system
display changes as follows:
"CONNECT" --+ Name of the
Bluetooth device

3Operate the Bluetooth device
and perform the pairing
operation.
For details about the operations of
the Bluetooth device, refer to the
operation manual supplied with your
Bluetooth device.
When searching for this system with
the Bluetooth device, alist of the
devices found may appear in the
Bluetooth device display depending
on the type of Bluetooth device.
This system appears as "CMT-
BX5BT:'
When establishing aconnection with
this system, select the audio profile
(A2DP, AVRCP) at the Bluetooth
device. Ifthe Bluetooth device does
not support the AVRCP profile, you
cannot perform playback or other
operations with the system (page 16).
Pairing this system with a Bluetooth
device
Pairing is an operation where Bluetooth
devices register with each other
beforehand. Use the procedure below
to pair the system with your Bluetooth
device. Once apairing operation is
performed, it does not need to be
performed again. Ifpairing is already
completed, proceed to "Playing music of
aBluetooth device" (page 16).
1Place the Bluetooth device to be
connected
to this system within
1meter of the system.
2Select the Bluetooth function.
Press BLUETOOTH ~II [ID on
the unit.

information on the display (device name,
etc.) disappears.

You can operate aBluetooth device by
connecting the system and aBluetooth
device using
AVRCP. Ifthe system is not
connected with aBluetooth device using
AVRCP, "NOT IN USE" appears when
you operate the system.
1Select the Bluetooth function.
Press BLUETOOTH ~II ~ on
the unit.

You can listen to music played on this
system using your Bluetooth headphones
over awireless connection.

Notes on connections with Bluetooth
devices
• If you cannot connect with apaired
Bluetooth device, perform the pairing
operation between the system and the
Bluetooth device again.
•Depending on the type
of Bluetooth device,
you can adjust the volume using the controls
-of the Bluetooth device.
•When BLUETOOTH
~II rn:J on the unit
is pressed while connected to Bluetooth
headphones, it may take some time until
aconnection
is made to the system from
another Bluetooth device.
Follow the procedure below to listen
to music on this system with Bluetooth
headphones.

headphones
Pairing is an operation where Bluetooth

OPR [ID on the unit for about 7
seconds until
the BLUETOOTH
indicator [§] flashes.
Soundoutput from the speakers is
stopped.
SEnter the passcode.
Follow the same procedure as in
step 4
of "Pairing this system with a
Bluetooth device" (page 15).
Once pairing
is completed and the
connection
is established, the system

1Select a function other than the
Bluetooth function.
Press FUNCTION lID repeatedly.
2Establish aconnection with the
Bluetooth headphones.
Press and hold BLUETOOTH OPR
[ID on the unitfor about 2seconds
until the BLUETOOTH indicator

lights up. then release the button.
If more than one Bluetooth device
that has
been connected in the past is
present around the system. the system
attempts to connectwith up to the
3most recently connected devices.
(Connection is attempted with up
to 3devices in order from the most
recently connected device.

Once the connection is established.
the system display changes as follows:
