The unit in thi manual contain a elf-diagno tic function. If an error occur , the STANDBY/TIMER lamp will automatically
begin to fla h.
The number of time the lamp fla he tran late to a probable ource of the problem. A definition of the STANDBY/TIMER
lamp fla h indicator i li ted in the in truction manual for the u er’ knowledge and reference. If an error ymptom cannot
be reproduced, the remote commander can be u ed to review the failure occurrence data tored in memory to reveal pa t
problem and how often the e problem occur.
1. DIAGNOSTIC TEST INDICATORS
When an error occur , the STANDBY/TIMER lamp will fla h a et number of time to indicate the po ible cau e of the
problem. If there i more than one error, the lamp will identify the fir t of the problem area .

Turn off the power witch on the TV main unit or unplug the power cord from the outlet to top the STANDBY/TIMER lamp

5. HANDLING OF SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SCREEN DISPLAY
Since the diagno tic re ult di played on the creen are not automatically cleared, alway check the elf-diagno tic creen
during repair . When you have completed the repair , clear the re ult di play to “0”.
Unle the re ult di play i cleared to “0”, the elf-diagno tic function will not be able to detect ub equent fault after
completion of the repair .

To clear the re ult di play to “0”, pre button on the remote commander equentially a hown below when the diagno tic
creen i being di played.

[Quitting Self-diagnostic screen]
To quit the entire elf-diagno tic creen, turn off the power witch on the remote commander or the main unit.
6. SELF-DIAGNOSTIC CIRCUIT
[+BovercurrentªOCPº] Occur when an overcurrent on the +B(135) line i detected by Q604. If Q604 go to ON
and the voltage to pin 18 of IC301 hould go down when V.SYNC i more than even
vertical in a period, the unit will automatically turn off.
[Verticaldeflectionstopped] Occur when an ab ence of the vertical deflection pul e i detected by Q509 and IC001
hut down the power upply.
[Verticaldeflectionovercurrent] Occur when an overcurrent on V drive line i detected by Q507. Power upply will be
hut down when detect thi by IC001.
[ hitebalancefailure] If the RGB level * do not balance or become low level within 5 econd , thi error will be
detected by IC301. TV will tay on, but there will be no picture.

CAUTION
• Do not connect the power cord until you have completed makin all other
connections; otherwise a minimum leaka e current mi ht flow throu h
the antenna and other terminals to round.
• To avoid battery leaka e and dama e to the remote, remove the batteries
from the remote if you are not oin to use it for several days. If any
liquid that leaks from the batteries touches you, immediately wash it
away with water.

Notes
• If you connect a monaural VCR, connect the yellow plu to (the
yellow jack) and the black plu to -L (MONO) (the white jack).
• If you connect a VCR to the 8 (antenna) terminal, preset the si nal
output from the VCR to the pro ram number 0 on the TV.
• If both (S video input) and … 1 (video input) at the rear of your TV
are input at the same time, the (S video input) is automatically
selected. To view t 1 (video input), disconnect the S video cable.
• Do not connect video equipment to t 3 (video input) at the front and
the rear of your TV at the same time; otherwise the picture will not be
displayed properly on the screen.
• When no si nal is input from the connected video equipment, the TV
screen becomes blue.

You can connect optional audio/video components, such as a VCR, multi disc player,
DVD, camcorder, video ame or stereo system. To watch the picture of the connected
equipment, press t (see pa e 10).

Notes
• You can also connect video equipment to the t 1, 2 or 3 (video input)
jacks at the rear of your TV.
• If both (S video input) and t 3 (video input) at the front of your TV
are input at the same time, the (S video input) is automatically
selected. To view t 3 (video input), disconnect the S video cable.
• Do not connect video equipment to the t 3 (video input) jacks at the
front and the rear of your TV at the same time; otherwise the picture will
not be displayed properly on the screen.

• Some DVD player terminals may be labeled differently:
• Since the hi h quality pictures on a DVD disc contain a lot of information,
picture noise may appear. In this case, adjust the sharpness (“SHARP”) in the
“ADJUST” menu of the “PICTURE MODE” menu (see pa e 25).
• Connect your DVD player directly to your TV. Connectin the DVD player
throu h other video equipment will cause unwanted picture noise.

Setting the Wake Up timer

• If the si nal is very weak, the sound becomes monaural automatically.
• If the stereo sound is noisy when receivin a NICAM pro ram, select
“MONO”. The sound becomes monaural, but the noise is reduced.

Viewing Teletext
TV stations broadcast an information
service called Teletext via some TV
channels. Teletext allows you to receive
various information, such as shares
market or news.

Using FASTEXT
This feature allows you to quickly access a Teletext pa e that uses
FASTEXT. When a FASTEXT pro ram is broadcasted, the colored

correspond to the red, reen, yellow, and blue color-coded buttons
on the remote.
To access a FASTEXT menu
Press the color-coded button on the remote correspondin to the
menu you want. The menu pa e appears on the screen after several
seconds.
