CPU Mount Procedure:
Tomounttheprocessorthatyouhavepurchased
separately,followthese instructions.
Retention Module Step 1. Open the two sides by folding them up.
Step 2. Insert the CPU into the retention
module. The CPU fits in the CPU
slot in only ONE way, do not try to
force it in.
Step 3. After completely inserting the CPU,
Now your CPU is ready for use.
Note: Installing a heat sink and cooling fan on top of your CPU is necessary for proper heat
dissipation. Failing to install these items may result in overheating and possible burn-out of
your CPU.

Step 4. CPU multiplier release Jumper: (JP8)
ClosingJP8canmakehighermultipliersettingsavailableonsomeINTELCPUs.For
technicaldetailsread the following:
YourPentiumCPUhas an input pinB21(100/66#signal)totellitatwhatFrontSideBus
(FSB)Frequencyitis running; JP8isconnectedtothisinputpin.TheactualFSBFrequency
ishoweversetthrough the BIOSanditmaythereforedifferfromtheFrequencyspecifiedto
theCPUthroughJP8.
BecausesomeINTELCPUshavetheirmultipliers limited at a FSB Frequency of 100MHz
andhigher,tellingtheCPUthat it is running at66MHzthoughJP8whilesettingadifferent
(higher)FSBFrequencyintheBIOSmayallow the user to set a higher multiplier value.
DoingsowillhoweverforceyourCPUtooperateoutofits specifications,andtherefore
SOYOcannotguaranteetheproperfunctioningofyoursystem.

Step 5. Set the CPU Frequency
Youdonotneed to setanyjumperfortheCPUfrequency.Instead,CPUsettingsare
changedthroughtheBIOS
[SOYOCOMBOSETUP].
PleaserefertoChapter3-Quick
BIOSSetupfordetailsonhowtosettheSlot1 processor frequency.
Step 6. External Suspend Button (JP1)
Somecasescomewitha suspend button, insert the plugintoJP1.Inadditiontothisbutton,
thesystemcanalsoenterthesuspendmodethroughyourOS.
Note:Suspend modeonlyfunctionsifyourPowerManagementmodeisAPM.MakesurethattheBIOS
settingfor PowerManagementisAPM.Windows98canbeinstalledwithACPI PowerManagement
(defaultis APM),inthiscasesuspendmodewillnotfunctioneither.
Step 7. 5V Stand-by indicator LED (LED 1)
ThisLEDis lit wheneverthe5VStandbyvoltagecomingfromtheATX powersupplyis
available.Ifyouhave connected your ATX powersupply tothemains,LED1shouldbelit.

Step 8. Enable/Disable Power-On by Keyboard (JP10)
YoucanchoosetoenablethePower-On by Keyboard function by shorting pin 1-2 onjumper
JP10,otherwise,short pin 2-3todisablethisfunction.

Important: When using the Power-On by Keyboard function, please make sure the

Clear CMOS Data (JP5)
InsomecasestheCMOS memory may contain wrongdata,followthestepsbelowtoclear
CMOSmemory.
1.
CleartheCMOSmemorybymomentarily shorting pin 2-3 on jumper JP5. Thisjumper
canbeeasilyidentifiedbyitswhitecoloredcap.
2.
Thenputthe jumper backto1-2toallowwritingnewofdatainto the CMOSmemory.

Note on Over-clocking Capability
TheSY-6BA+100providesover-clockingcapability.Duetothe over-clocking setting your
systemmayfailtobootuporhang during run time. Please perform the following steps to
recoveryoursystemfromtheabnormal situation:
1.
Turnoffsystempower(IfyouuseanATXpowersupply,anddependingonyoursystem,
youmayhavetopressthepowerbutton for more than 4 seconds to shut down the
system.)
2.
SettheJP8toshortifyouuseaFSB66MHzCPU
3.
Pressandholddownthe<Insert> key while turning on the system power. Keep holding
downthe<Insert>keyuntil you see the messageoftheCPUtypeandfrequencyshown
onthescreen.
4.
Pressthe<Del>keyduringthesystemdiagnosticcheckstoentertheAwardBIOSSetup
program.
5.
Select[SOYOCOMBOSETUP]and move the cursor tothe[CPUFrequency]fieldtoset
theproperworkingfrequency.
6.
Select[Save&ExitSETUP]andpress <Enter> to save the new configuration to the
CMOSmemory, and continue the boot sequence.
Note: SOYOdoes notguarantee systemstabilityifthe user overclocksthesystem.
Anymalfunctions due to over-clockingarenotcovered by the warranty.

Quick BIOS Setup
ThisMotherboarddoesnotuseany hardware jumpers to set the CPU frequency. Instead,
CPUsettingsaresoftwareconfigurablewiththeBIOS
[SOYOCOMBO SETUP].
The
[SOYOCOMBOSETUP]menucombinesthe main parameters that you need to configure,
allinonemenu,for a quick setup in BIOS.
Afterthehardwareinstallationis complete, turn the power switchon,thenpressthe
<DEL>
key
duringthesystemdiagnosticcheckstoenter the Award BIOS Setupprogram. The CMOS
SETUPUTILITYwilldisplayonscreen. Then, follow thesesteps toconfigure theCPU settings.
Step 1. Select [STANDARD CMOS SETUP]
Set[Date/Time]and[Floppydrivetype],then set[Hard DiskType]to “Auto”.
Step 2. Select [LOAD SETUP DEFAULT]
Selectthe“LOADSETUPDEFAULT”menuandtype“Y”attheprompttoload theBIOS
optimalsetup.
Step 3. Select [SOYO COMBO SETUP]
Movethecursortothe
[CPUFrequency]
fieldtoset the CPU frequency.

thanWindows 9x or NT.
YourSY-6BA+100Motherboardcomes with a CD-ROMlabeled"SOYOCD."TheSOYO
CDcontains(1)theuser's manual file for yournewMotherboard,(2)thedriverssoftware
availableforinstallation, and(3)adatabaseinHTMLformatwithinformation on SOYO
Motherboardsandotherproducts.
Step 1. Insert the SOYO CD into the CD-ROM drive
TheSOYOCDwillauto-run,andtheSOYOCDStartUpMenuwillbeasshown.
IfyouuseWindowsNT,theSOYO-CDwillnotdetectyourmotherboardtype.Inthatcasethe
followingdialogwillpopup,pleasechooseyourmotherboardandpressOK.NowtheSOYO-
CDStartUpMenuwillbeshown.

Theuser'smanual files included ontheSOYOCDareinPDF(PostscriptDocument)format.
InordertoreadaPDFfile,the appropriateAcrobatReadersoftwaremustbeinstalledin
yoursystem.
Note:
TheStartUpprogram automatically detects if theAcrobatReaderutilityisalready
presentinyoursystem, and otherwise promptsyouonwhetherornotyouwanttoinstallit.
Youmustinstall the AcrobatReaderutilitytobeabletoreadtheuser's manual file.Follow
theinstructionsonyour screen during installation, thenoncetheinstallationiscompleted,
restartyoursystemandre-runtheSOYOCD.
Step 2. Install Drivers & Utility
Clickthe
InstallDrivers
buttontodisplaythe listof drivers software that can be installed with
yourMotherboard.TheStartUpprogramdisplays the drivers available for the particular
modelofMotherboardyouown.We recommend that you only install those drivers.

ThisutilitycomeswithapresetmonitoringragefortheCPUvoltage.However,thecorevoltage
oftheprocessoryoupurchasedmayfalloutofthispresetrange,soyoumayneedtoadjustthe

Note:
Onceyouhaveselectedadriver,thesystem will automatically exittheSOYOCDto
beginthedriverinstallation program. When the installationiscomplete,mostdriversrequire
torestartyoursystembefore they can become active.
Step 3. Check the Latest Releases
Clickthe'Check thelatestReleases'buttonto gotheSOYO Websitetoautomaticallyfind
thelatestBIOS,manualanddriverreleases for your motherboard. This button will only work
ifyourcomputer isconnected tothe internet through a network or modem connection. Make
suretogetyourmodemconnection up before clicking this button.
Step 4. Enter the SOYO CD
Clickthe
EnterSOYOCD
buttontoentertheSOYO HTML database. The Start Up
programwillactivatethedefaultHTMLbrowser installed on your system (for example,
InternetExplorerorNetscape)todisplay the contents of the SOYO CD.
TheSOYOCDcontainsusefulinformationaboutyourMotherboardandotherSOYO
productsavailable.Foryour convenience, this informationisavailableinHTMLformat,
similartotheformatwidely used on the Internet.
Note:
IfnoHTMLbrowser is installed on your system,theStartUpprogramwillpromptyou
onwhetheror not youwouldliketoinstalltheInternetExplorer*browser.Click YEStoinstall
theHTMLbrowser.Aftertheinstallationiscomplete, please restart your system. Then re-run
theSOYOCDand you will be abletobrowsetheSOYOHTMLdatabase.

Installing the Windows 95/98 Drivers
Usually,when youbootuptheWindows95/98systemforthefirsttime, thesystemwillbeabletodetect
theHPT370UltraDMAhostAdapterautomaticallyandaskyoutoinstallthedriverforHPT370.Youcan
justfollow theinstructionspromtedbythesystemtoinstallthedriver.Thedriverislocatedinthefollowing
directory:
D:\drivers\HPT370\Win9x (WhereD isyourCD-ROMdriverletter)
Otherwise,you caninstallthedriverbythefollowingsteps:
1. Windows95/98 mustbeinstalledonthesystempriortoinstallingthedriver.
2. Closeany runningapplications.
3. Open"My Computer".
4. Doubleclick onthe"ControlPanel"icon.
5. Doubleclick onthe"AddNewHardware"applet.
6. Clickonthe"Next"button.
7. Whenasked "DoyouwantWindowstosearchforyournewhardware?",choose "No"thenclick
onthe "Next"button.
8. Whenaskedtoselectthehardwaretype,selectthe"SCSIcontrollers"andclickonthe"Next"
button.
9. MakesurethattheSOYO-CDisinyourCD-ROMdriveandclickonthe"HaveDisk..."button.
10. Selectthe D:\drivers\HPT370\Win9xdirectory(WhereDisyourCD-ROMdriverletter)andclick
onthe "OK"button.
11. Clickonthe"Next"button.
12. Ifthere isawindowshowingthesettings(resources)tobeusedby thedriver,thenclickonthe
"Next"again.Atthispoint,thesystemwillinstallthedriver.
13. Clickonthe"Finish"button.
14. Thenthesystemwillaskyoutorestartthesystem.Ifthesettingsreported instep12arenotwhat
seton thehostadapter,youmustadjustthesettingsbyusingthe devicemanagerintheSystem
controlpanel beforerestartingyourcomputer.
15. ThedriverforACPIfunctionisusefulonlyifhardwaresupports ACPIfunction.
Uninstalling the Driver
Youcan usethedevicemanagerintheSystemcontrolpaneltoremove thedriver.
