Your new Spearhead machine is constructed with background in more then 20 years experience with
tractor mounted machines to maintenance of green areas. This machine is produced by the latest
technology and recognized safety regulations, standards and regulations.
We want to make a product available in such a way, that neither the use of the machine during
transportation or maintenance of the machine is any damage or misunderstandings.
This manual contains information and instructions there are important and useful for maintaining your
Spearhead machine's reliability, dependability and value. Please read this manual carefully as it will
familiarize you with the installation, use, care and maintenance. Pay particular attention to the
instructions regarding safety.

Safety recommendations
Beware of the following Potential Dangers associated with the use of
this machine
Becoming trapped when hitching or unhitching
Machine overbalancing when wing is raised (some machinetypes).
Getting caught on rotating power take off (PTO)
Being hit or caught by any moving part, e.g. Blades, drive shaft and wings.
Being hit by flying debris or machine parts due to machine damage
Machine overbalancing when not in use (some machine types).
Injection of high pressure oil from damaged couplings or hydraulic hoses
Accidents due to collision with other machines, or debris left on road
Beware of free-swinging blades over centering and falling when wings are folding
(some machine types).
Always
Ensure the operator has read this handbook and has been trained to use the machine.
Ensure all safety guards are in place and all tractor windows closed.
Impact resistant shielding to the tractor is recommended
Before leaving the tractor cab always ensures that the wings are firmly on the ground,
no weight is on the machine’s hydraulics and the rotor has stopped spinning (some
machine types).
Check that all guards are properly fitted and there are no damaged or loose parts.
Particular attention should be given to the blades to ensure they are not damaged,
cracked or missing
Inspect work area for wire, steel posts, large stones and other dangerous materials and
remove before starting work.
Ensure that all warning labels are always visible and that they are not damaged,
defaced or missing.
Fit locking pins to height and to wings before transport and before unhitching when
applicable (some machine types).
Wear ear defenders if operating without a quiet cab or with the cab windows open
Ensure tractor guards are fitted correctly and are undamaged
Work at a safe speed, taking into account terrain, passing vehicles and obstacles
Ensure that the tractor meets the minimum weight recommendations of the machine
manufacturer and that ballast is used if necessary
Check that machine fittings and couplings are in good condition
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for attachment and removal of machine from the
tractor
Ensure blades are of the type recommended by the manufacturer, are securely fitted
and are undamaged
Ensure hydraulic pipes are correctly routed to avoid damage from chafing, stretching,
pinching or kinking (some machine types).
Check condition of tyres and tightness of wheel nuts (some machine types).
Ensure all blades have stopped spinning before folding wings into transport position
(some machine types).

Disengage the machine, stop the engine and remove the key before leaving the tractor
cab for any reason
Clean up any debris left at the work site.
Ensure that when you remove the machine from the tractor it is secured in a safe
position using the stands provided (some machine types).
Never
- operate the machine with other people present, as it is possible for debris, including
stones, to be discharged from the front and rear.
- operate the machine until you have read and understood this Handbook and are
familiar with the controls.
- use a machine that is poorly maintained or has guards that are damaged or missing
- allow an inexperienced person to operate the machine without supervision.
- use or fit a machine onto a tractor if it doesn’t meet the manufacturer’s specification.
- use a machine if the hydraulic system shows signs of damage.
- attempt to detect a hydraulic leak with your hand, use a piece of card.
- allow children to play on or around the machine at any time.
- attempt any maintenance or adjustment without first disengaging the PTO, lowering
the wings (some machine types) to the ground, stopping the tractor engine and
applying the tractor parking brake.
- leave the cab without removing the ignition key.
- operate the tractor or any controls from any position other than from the driving seat.
- stop the engine with the PTO engaged.
- operate with blades missing.
- operate PTO above recommended speed, 540/1000 rpm.
-operate with wire around the rotor. Stop immediately.
- use the wing raised which may throw debris towards the cab (some machine types).
- attempt to use the machine for any purpose other than that it was designed for.
- transport with the PTO engaged.
- enter the working area of the machine (risk of injury!).
- engage the P.T.O with wings folded (some machine types).

Setting to work position
Remove transport bolt and turn the arm to working position. Mount the bolt in the ram.
Start the tool by low oil flow (Low rpm).
Adjust the tool to vertical when hedgecutting.

Tool start
Chose low motor rpm
Make sure the area surrounding the tool is secure.
Varm start –Start the tool.
Cold start –never start at max rpm. Let the tool drive unloaded in appox. 15 min. To
warm the oil.
Slowly increase the rpm till the proper oil flow is achieved.
Do never try to restart an overworking tool. First remove the thing there’s stuck tight.
Tool stop
Reduce engine rpm to idle speed. Then stop the tool.
Never increase or decrease the amount of oil to fast. It can in the long term damage the
hydraulic system.

Assembly / Disassembly
Do always pay attention to the
overhead lines. Between the electric
poles, there will always be a risk of
touching overhead lines. If in doubt -
contact the local power station for
instructions on safe distance.
1) Drive forward. Tip the
holder on arm 90˚.
2) Tighten the machine.
3) Tip holder on arm 90˚
back to correct working
position.

Hydraulic cutting angle adjustment
This equipment allows you to adjust the cutting angle from the cabin.
Operation takes place with the black tilt switch (2) the operator control.
Once the correct angle is set, you can begin to work.
Correction is also possible while working. Use small movements. Large
corrections is best done while stationary.

Attention!
A hose is weakened when
its twisted by installation.
Therefore, the pressure pulses
in a twisted hose tends
to strain the wire and
loosen the connections.
Plan so that its movement allows bending rather than twisting.

Maintenance
Lubrications
After machine wash:
Grease all the machine parts and equipment every time you have washed the machine.
Hydraulic hoses
Carefully inspect all hoses condition by regular inspection. Pay particular attention to the fact
that they do not rub against the frame rails, bolts and the like.
Check every day for all hydraulic hoses and fittings are in good condition. Any damage or
leaks should be immediately repaired. This is part of the daily maintenance and it is your
responsibility, to ensure a long machine life.
Hoses with defective metal band to be replaced.
When replacing hoses, record number that is at one end of fittings. Spearhead's hydraulic
system operates at a very high pressure. Use only original hoses. A burst hose can be very
dangerous.
When replacing hoses,, avoid twisting the hose. Use 2 sets keys to loosen and tighten.
Always check whether the protective yellow tape is in good condition. It is cheaper to replace a
protective band than replacing expensive hoses.
Hoses warranty is limited to replacement of hoses due to defective material or workmanship.

All hose connections are of type "Parker soft-seal" and should only be turned ½ times more
than "handtightent" to be leak-proof (see table).

Oil Supply
• Oil level in tank must be checked each day before starting work.
• It is good practice to constantly keep an eye on the dipstick when a ruptured pipeline can
be emptied in minutes.
• A pump or motor, which has run out of oil, will be damaged and can no longer be
repaired.
• The oil is changed if there are signs that it is contaminated (discolored).
• Cleanliness by oil filling:
-Careful cleaning around the filler neck prior to unscrew.
-Use a clean container for refilling the system.
-Regular inspection of the filtration system.
-Never let the oil level fall below the sight glass level.
• Check daily for all hydraulic connections and fittings are in good condition. Any defect or
leak must be immediately repaired. It is part of the daily maintenance that will reduce costs
and prolong machine life.
• When the fittings must be tightened, if necessary use Always 2 fixed keys. Avoid over
tightening. If fitting continues to leak, replace it.
