These release notes provide information specific to the Spectra 2K library, Spectra 2K
iSCSI library, DAStape, and iSCSItape.
Use these notes in conjunction with the user guides for each product, which describe
installing, configuring, operating, and maintaining those data storage devices.

WarningsandCautions
ACPower
Warning:Risk of electrical shock. To remove AC power, unplug the power
cord from the power inlet. There are no user-serviceable parts
within the unit.
HighVoltage
Warning:Spectra Logic products contain high-voltage components that can
cause injury or death. Only qualified electricians should replace
or install high-voltage components.
Robotics
Warning:Serious injury can result if hair, clothing, or appendages are
caught in library robotics. Keep hair, clothing, and appendages
clear of moving parts. Do not override any of the product’s safety
features.
Tapes
Caution: Use only the data cartridges approved for use with the drive(s)
installed in your data storage product. Improper data cartridges
can cause damage to the drives, library, and tape cartridges.

To make sure that the firmware levels of your library remain current, visit the Spectra

LibraryAccessories
The library comes with the following accessories:
• One 120-volt AC power cord
• One or two data cartridge magazine(s)
• Two keys for the library’s front door
• One small screwdriver for configuring settings on the back of the library
Note: Data cartridge magazine dust covers (clear plastic lids) are no
longer shipped with the library. Any references in the user guide to
included dust covers are outdated.
Note: A 68-pin SCSI terminator is no longer included with the library.
You may still purchase a terminator separately, but any references
in the User Guide to an included SCSI terminator are outdated.
LibraryInitialization
Confirm the SCSI switch settings before initializing the library.
Note that the iSCSI 2K library requires time to initialize the robotics, followed by
another 3.5 minutes to complete the initialization. Wait until the drive and library
information display, followed by the configuration menu display. Do not select Enter
or otherwise interrupt the process until the initialization is complete to avoid system
problems

The configuration switch determines:
• Emulation mode for the robotics
• Emulation mode for the AIT tape drives

The default position of the configuration switch (0) identifies the library and tape
drives with the following information:
• Library Inquiry (or Name): Spectra 215
• Drive Manufacturer: Sony
• Drive Model: SDX-400V, SDX-500V, SDX-700V, or SDX-900V, SDX-1100
• Drive DIP Switch: 0
These values, returned by the SCSI INQUIRY command, inform the host computer how
to communicate with the library and tape drives. Some operating systems require
custom configurations in order to communicate with the library.

Note: The 2K library is no longer equipped with a serial port diagnostic.
The rear panel components of the library are used to install, configure, and repair the
library; they include:
• Power entry module (includes fuse, power switch, and power cable connector)
• SCSI connectors (shown terminated in diagram below)
• Drive access panel and fan
• Library configuration switch
• SCSI ID switches

Power specifications are for use on a 15A Branch Circuit.
The plug is used as the library’s power disconnect.
Note: The power cord included with this unit is considered part of this
unit and cannot be used with any other equipment.

Note: If you are using an IBM Ultrium/LTO drive, do not set the SCSI ID
to 15, as this is reserved for other uses.
