E/12-Series Portable UV Hand Lamps
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Please read all operating instructions before using a Spectroline E/12-Series portable UV hand lamp.
This lamp produces ultraviolet radiation that can be hazardous to the eyes and/or skin. Use of Spectroline UV-absorbing
protective eye and face wear is recommended. See ordering information. This eye and face wear also improves contrast
between the fluorescent area and the background and eliminates ‘‘blue haze’’ interference. Protective clothing should be used
when skin is exposed to short or medium wave UV.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
UNPACKING AND INSPECTION
1. Carefully unpack and inspect the lamp for possible damage in shipment. If any damage is noted, immediately notify the
carrier and supplier before attempting to use the lamp.
2. Save the shipping carton and packing materials for future storing and shipping of the lamp.
INTRODUCTION
Any one of the 30 Spectroline E/12-Series UV hand lamps can be powered in four different ways, depending on your choice of one or
more optional accessories.
1. From a battery: Your lamp can operate from any 12V, 7 AHr, rechargeable battery. Order the BP-12A battery pack, which
includes a 12-volt, 7Ahr, rechargeable battery (9B65), the RB-12S battery charger and a nylon carrying case. The RB-12S
operates from a 120V/60Hz outlet. (Order the BP-12A/F battery pack with an RB-12S/F charger for 230V/50Hz.) The automatic
charger (RB-12S) prevents accidental overcharge.
2. From a vehicle cigarette-lighter receptacle: Order the AL-12 adapter with a male cigarette lighter plug.
3. From a vehicle battery or 12-volt battery: Order the AA-12 adapter with two alligator clips.
4. From a 120-volt AC outlet: Order the AP-12/4 AC adapter (for 4- and 5-watt lamps) or the AP-12/6 AC adapter (for 6- and 8-watt
lamps).
START-UP PROCEDURE
1. Connect the lamp to an appropriate battery or AC power source. When connecting the AL-12 adapter to a vehicle cigarette lighter
receptacle, or the AA-12 adapter to a vehicle battery, make sure the engine of the vehicle is turned off.
2. Depress the large ON button for approximately five seconds and release it. The light may flicker initially but should stabilize after a
few seconds.
3. Depress the small button to turn off the lamp.
USING CORD ACCESSORIES TO OPERATE THE UNIT
The lamp can be used with any of four optional cord accessories (described above).
1. BP-12A battery pack operation: Order the AL-12 adapter to connect the 12-volt rechargeable battery (9B65) to the lamp.
a. Insert the plug into the receptacle attached to the battery.
b. Insert the jack into the lamp housing. Refer to the operating instructions packed with the BP-12A for full information.
2. 12-volt battery operation: Order the AA-12 adapter to connect to a vehicle battery or any 12-volt battery that can supply at least
1.0 amp of continuous current.
2. IMPORTANT: With the engine turned off, connect the red clamp to the positive terminal and the black clamp to the negative
terminal. Plug the cord’s jack into the lamp housing.
3. Vehicle cigarette-lighter operation: Order the AL-12 adapter. NOTE: The vehicle must be negative-ground. The engine must
be turned off.
4. AC adapter operation: Use the cord with the AC adapter (AP-12/4 or AP-12/6) to power the lamp from a standard 120V/60Hz
outlet. Connect the cord’s jack into the receptacle on the lamp housing and plug the AC adapter into an appropriate wall outlet.
OPERATOR SERVICING
Do not perform any servicing other than that contained in these instructions. Return the lamp to the factory for maintenance
not covered in this section. WARNING: To avoid the risk of electrical shock, always disconnect the lamp from the battery or
AC power source before cleaning or servicing.

FILTER REPLACEMENT
To replace the filter assembly in lamps equipped with filters:
1. Disconnect the lamp from its power source.
2. Lay the lamp housing on a flat, level surface.
3. Remove the two screws that hold the endcap opposite the power cord.
4. Slide the filter assembly off the lamp housing’s open end and set it aside.
5. Install the new filter assembly by reversing the above procedure.
TUBE REPLACEMENT
If the lamp fails to operate properly, the tube(s) may need to be changed.
1. Disconnect the lamp from its power source.
2. Lay the lamp housing on a flat, level surface.
3. If the lamp has a filter, remove the filter assembly by following the steps outlined in the FILTER REPLACEMENT section.
4. Grasp the tube by the metal bases at each end. Applying even pressure, gently rotate the tube one-quarter of a turn until it
loosens.
5. Install the new tube and replace the filter assembly by reversing the above procedure. If the lamp still fails to work properly, make
sure the two pins at each end of the tube are properly connected with the two copper contacts in each socket.
MAINTENANCE OF THE UNIT
Do not allow liquids to leak into the electrical components. Immediately clean liquid spills from the housing with a damp, soft
cloth and a mild detergent. Wipe dry. To clean the filter (if the lamp is equipped with one) or the reflector, use a soft cloth and a glass
cleaner. Wipe dry. To clean the tube(s), remove them according to the instructions in the TUBE REPLACEMENT section. Clean the
tube(s) with a soft cloth and mild detergent solution. Wipe dry.

The warranty policy for the E/12-Series lamps is provided on the Certificate of Limited Warranty enclosed separately with each unit.
