STI’sCMCP7504isageneral‐purposemonitoringsystemcapableofcontinuouslymonitoringupto4
channelsofvibration,position,ortemperature.TheCMCP7504canbeconfiguredtooperateasa
standaloneprotectionsystemoritcanbeconnectedtoahostdevicesuchasaPLC,DCSorSCADA
system.Localbargraphdisplaysprovidetheoverallamplitudesandalarmstatusalongwithauser
identifiabletagname.Inaddition,theCMCP7504alsoallowsforasingletemperatureinputandspeed
inputforatagreadoutonthedisplayallowingforatotalof6measurementpoints.
TheSTICMCP7504canacceptuptofoursignalprocessingmodules.Variousmodulesareavailablefor
differentsensorandmeasurementtypes.Eachinputmodulecanprocessthesignalfromonesensorand
uptofourmodulescanbeinstalledinaCMCP7504.Theavailableinputmodulesare:

output.ThesignalisprocessedtocalculateanAccelerationEnvelopingvaluewithin500‐10kHz(Filter#3)
forcontinuousmonitoringandtheoverallamplitudeisconvertedintoa4‐20mAoutput,proportionalto
thefull‐scalerangeselected,fortransfertoaPLC,DCSorotherfacilitycontrolsystem.Enveloped
AccelerationisdisplayedintermsofgE.
The(SV)SeismicVelocityModuleisforconnectingtoanelectromechanicalvelocitysensor(coiltype).The
signalisprocessedtocalculatetheoverallVelocitywithinaselectedbandwidthforcontinuous
monitoringandtheoverallamplitudeisconvertedintoa4‐20mAoutput,proportionaltothefull‐scale
rangeselected,fortransfertoaPLC,DCSorotherfacilitycontrolsystem.Velocitycanbedisplayedin
termsofeitherin/sormm/s.

orotherfacilitycontrolsystem.RadialvibrationcanbedisplayedintermsofmilsormicronsPeaktoPeak.
TheCMCP7504doesnotprovide‐24VDCpowertotheeddyprobesystem.
The(TP)ThrustPosition(AxialPosition)Moduleisforconnectingtoeddycurrentprobesystem(also
referredtoasaproximityprobesystem)withamV/milormV/mmoutput.Thesignalisprocessedfor
continuousmonitoringandtheoverallamplitudeisthenconvertedintoa4‐20mAoutputfortransfertoa
PLC,DCSorotherfacilitycontrolsystem.ThrustPositioncanbedisplayedintermsofmillimeters(mm)or
microns(um).TheCMCP7504doesnotprovide‐24VDCpowertotheeddyprobesystem.
The(AM)AnalogInputModuleisforconnectingananalogsignal(4‐20mAor1‐5VDC).Thesignalis
processedforcontinuousmonitoringandtheoverallamplitudeisthenconvertedtoa4‐20mAoutputfor
transfertoaPLC,DCSorotherfacilitycontrolsystem.AnalogInputscanbedisplayedintheuserchoiceof
terms.
The(TM)TemperatureInputModuleisforconnectingeithera100OhmPlatinumRTDor,most
commonly,a10mV/°CsignalfromadualoutputaccelerometersuchasSTI’sCMCP786TorCMCP785T.
Thesignalisprocessedforcontinuousmonitoringandtheoverallamplitudeisthenconvertedtoa4‐
20mA,proportionaltothefull‐scalerangeselected,fortransfertoaPLC,DCSorotherfacilitycontrol
system.Temperatureinputscanbedisplayedintermsof°Cor°F.
The(XX)EmptySlotisusedforwhenaninputmoduleisleftempty,allowingtheusertoorderthesystem
asa1,2or3channelmonitoringsystem.
SystemFeatures
RelaysandAlarms
TheCMCP7504MachineProtectionSystemisdesignedtocomplywiththeAPI670standardandoffers
machineprotectionfunctions.TheCMCP7504provides2relaycontactoutputs,1foralertand1for
danger,foreachchannel.AglobalSystemOKrelayisalsoprovided.Localalarmstatusforeachchannelis
alsoprovidedonthebargraphdisplay.
BufferedOutputs
Foreachchannel,thesensor’srawsignalisavailableasabufferedoutput.Bufferedoutputsforeach
channelareavailableattheBNCconnector,locatedonthefrontcover,andattheterminalstriponthe
mainboard.Thesebufferedoutputsarecommonlyusedtoconnectportabledatacollectorsor
permanentlyinstalledanalysisdevicesinparalleltotheCMCP7504forFFTdiagnostics.
AnalogOutputs
TheCMCP7504providesa4‐20mAoutputforeachchannel.The4‐20mAoutputisproportionaltothe
full‐scalerangeselectedontheinputmodule.Thefull‐scalerangesavailableareshownontheinput
modulespecificationsheetsbelow.

AUXTemperature
AsingletemperatureinputisprovidedontheCMCP7504anddoesnotrequiretheuseofaninput
module.TheAuxiliaryTemperaturechannelacceptsasignalfromadualoutputaccelerometer(10mV/°C)
oraPT100RTDtobeconnectedtothesystemandthevaluedisplayedonthescreen.Visualalarmingis
availableifalarmlimitsareset.Visualalarmingwillchangethecolorofthereadoutonthedisplaywhen
analarmconditionismet.Relayandanalogoutputsarenotprovidedwiththischannel.
AUXSpeed
AsinglespeedinputisprovidedontheCMCP7504anddoesnotrequiretheuseofaninputmodule.The
AuxiliarySpeedchannelacceptsasignalfroma2or3wirepulseoutputsensorandthevaluewillbe
displayedonthescreen.Thenumberofeventsperrevolutionmayalsobeprogrammedtoallowfor
measuringequipmentwithmorethan1target.
ModbusOutput
AModbusTCP/IPoutputandRTUoutputareprovidedontheCMCP7504.See“ModbusOutput”setup
page.TheModbusoutputcanbetakenbacktoacontrolsystemforlivestreamingdata.
DataViewOverallValueSaver
TheDataViewOverallValueSaverfeatureallowsforrecordingoftheoverallvalueforeachofthefour
channels.AremovableinternalSDcard,witha1GBofmemory,storestheoverallvaluesforeach
channeleveryminute.Thedataissavedasa.txtfileandtimestampedforretrievalatalatertimeif
necessary.
SignalSaver
TheSignalSaverfeaturerecordsthesensor’ssignalfor30secondswhenanalarmconditionismet.The
signalissavedontheremovableinternalSDcardandisina.wavfileformat.The.wavfilecanthenbe
importedintoaportabledatacollector,oronlinesystem,allowingforviewingofthetimewaveformand
FFT.AllfilesaretimestampedandloggedontotheSDcarduntilclearedbytheuser.Onaverage1yearof
datacanbesaved.
SpeedSync
SpeedSyncallowstheusertoenablealarmswhenthemachinespeediswithinaspecifiedrangewhena
speedsensorisconnectedtothemonitor.Toconfigurespeedsyncfirstsetupthepulsesperrevolution
thensettheLow(L1)andHigh(H1)speedlimitsandcheckthe“SyncType”boxforthechannelyouwant
ittoapplyto.Whenthemachinespeediswithinthislimit,thealarmswillbeenabled.Thisallowsfor
machinestocoastupandcoastdownwithouthavinganalarm.
ConfigurationUtility
Theconfigurationofeachchannel’sprocessingparameters(forexamplethemeasurementunitsoralarm
setpoints)isperformedusingasimpleconfigurationsoftwarecalledtheMMSManager.TheMMS
ManagercanbeinstalledonaWindowsoperatingsystem(2000ornewer)andconnectstothe
CMCP7504usingagenericUSBcablewhichissuppliedwiththesystem.

Removing/InstallingInputModules
TheCMCP7504canacceptuptofourinputmoduleswhichallowforvarioustypesofsensors.DIP
switchesorjumpersforfullscalerangeand/orfrequencyrangeselectionsarelocatedonthebottomside
ofthemodule.Theinputmodulesaresecuredtothemainboardusingtwoscrews,locatedatthetop
rightandbottomleftcornerofeachmodule.Toremovetheinputmodule,removethetwoscrewsand
liftthemoduleup.Toinstall,aligntheconnectorsontheinputmoduleandpressdown,thenre‐install
thetwocornerscrews.Ifthescrewholesdonotalign,removethemoduleandcheckconnector
alignment.Note,theCMCP7504shouldalwaysbepoweredoffwhenremovingorinstallinginput
modules.
InputModuleCharacteristics
TheCMCP7504supportsaccelerometers,velocitytransducers,eddycurrentprobes(proximityprobes)
andallvoltageorcurrentoutputssensors.Onceprocessed,thedatacanthenbeusedforcontinuous
monitoringandoverallvaluetransmissiontoaPLC,DCSorothercontrolsystem.Thetablebelowshows
thestandardprocessingparameters.Whenavailable,thefrequencyrangecanbesetusingajumperor
DIPswitchoneachinputmodule.ThefrequencyrangeisnotselectedusingtheMMSManager.The
followingsectionwillreviewtheavailablefull‐scalerangesandfrequencyrangesavailableforeach
module.
