SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
This symbol indicates WARNING. Per-
sonal injury and/or damage to property
may result if the instructions are not fol-
lowed carefully.
GENERAL
• Study the warning stickers on the machine. Re-
place damaged or illegible warning stickers.
• Please read through these instructions carefully.
Learn all the controls and the correct use of the
machine. Keep these instructions.
• Never use the machine if others, particularly
children or animals, are in the vicinity. Anyone
who is not aware of these regulations may not
use the machine. Never let children use the ma-
chine.
• The user is responsible for accidents that hap-
pen to other people or their property.
PREPARATIONS
• Wear protective gloves, protective glasses and
hearing protectors. Avoid loose clothing.
• Always stand steadily and in balance. Do not
stretch towards the machine.
• During use, the machine should be flat and on a
firm surface.
• Ensure that all screws and nuts are properly
tightened before use.
• Only use the machine in dry conditions and
never outdoors when it is raining.
• Never use the machine with damaged safety de-
vices or without protection.
USING THE MACHINE
• Hard objects such as stones, bottle, cans or piec-
es of metal must not be fed into the feeding hop-
per. This can cause damage to the machine.
• If the machine becomes blocked, stop the motor
and disconnect the plug. Pull out any objects
and check for damage.
• Do not tug on the connection cable. Do not hold
the cable taut. This can cause damage in the
plugs or in the cable’s insulation. Such damage
is invisible but can be dangerous.
• Always keep the connection cable away from
the machine. Disconnect the plug from the elec-
tric socket and check the cable regularly for
signs of damage or ageing. Do not use the ma-
chine with a damaged connection cable.
• If the cable is damaged, it must be replaced by
an authorised service workshop to avoid dan-
ger.
• If the fuse blows or if the overload protection is
triggered, this is a sign that the machine is over-
loaded and/or that too many appliances are con-
nected to the same lead. Check the cause and
remedy. Do not install a more powerful fuse.
• Keep hands, other parts of your body and cloth-
ing away from the feeding hopper and the dis-
charge chute. Never wear loose clothing or
clothes with belts or straps when using the ma-
chine.
• Keep away from the discharge zone when start-
ing the motor.
• Do not allow the pile of processed material to
build up inside the discharge chute. This blocks
new material.
• Keep your face and the rest of your body away
from the feeding hopper.
• Never move the machine by pulling the cable.
The machine must not be moved with the motor
running.
• Do not leave the machine unsupervised, but
first switch off the motor and disconnect the
plug.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
• During cleaning and maintenance, wear protec-
tive gloves to avoid injury.
• Switch off the motor and disconnect the plug
before carrying out checks or maintenance on
the machine.
• If a foreign object comes into contact with the
blade or if the machine produces an abnormal
noise level or abnormal vibrations, switch off
the motor immediately. Disconnect the plug
and check for any damage.
• The manufacturer’s obligations and liability
(according to the Product Liability Act) only
apply on the condition that only spare parts ap-
proved by the manufacturer are used.

ENGLISH GB
• Store the machine in a dry place.
• When your machine has to be replaced after
many years of service or is no longer required,
we recommend that it is handed in to your deal-
er for recycling.
ASSEMBLY
LEGS
1. Turn the motor housing upside down.
2. The legs are different on the left and right sides.
Check that the legs are assembled so that they
are angled outwards (fig. 1).
3. Secure the legs on the machine with washers
and screws (fig. 2). Do not tighten the screws
yet.
4. Insert the wheel axle between the legs (fig. 3).
5. Install the wheels on the wheel axle with wheel
sleeves, washers and nuts (fig. 4).
6. Tighten the wheel nuts. Using e.g. an adjustable
wrench, grip the flat slot on the wheel axle and
counterhold (fig. 5).
7. Tighten the legs’ screws properly (fig. 2).
8. Press the wheel caps onto the wheels (fig. 6)
9. Turn the grinder and place it on a flat surface.
FEEDING HOPPER
Thread the feeding hopper onto the compost grind-
er. Ensure that the feeding hopper is pressed down
straight.
Screw the feeding hopper into place using the four
screws and accompanying washers in the follow-
ing order: flat washer, spring washer, screw. (fig.
7).
The compost grinder may not be used un-
der any circumstances unless the feeding
hopper is installed.
USING THE MACHINE
GENERAL
This machine is only intended for private use, not
to be used professionally.
The compost grinder is designed to grind organic
material such as plant residue, twigs, sticks, small
branches, etc.
The grinder must not be used to process
topsoil. This will damage the blades.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
Connect the machine to a single phase electric
socket with a protective conductor (earth). The
electric circuit should be fused with a 10A inert
fuse.
Always use a protectively earthed connection ca-
ble intended for outdoor use. The cable’s cross-
section should be at least 3 x 1.5 mm2.
The connector (female contact) must be moisture-
proof.
You are recommended to use an earth leakage cir-
cuit breaker which interrupts the current in the
event of something happening to the machine or
connection cable.
If a portable earth leakage circuit breaker (e.g.
STIGA, order no. 8290-9010-01) is used, it should
always be placed between the electric socket and
the connection cable.
Even if an earth leakage circuit breaker is used,
safety cannot be guaranteed. Always follow the
safety instructions provided. Ideally wear shoes
with thick rubber soles.
Test the operation of the earth leakage circuit
breaker before each use.
In the event of unfavourable electrical mains con-
ditions, brief voltage drops can occur when you
start the apparatus which can affect other applianc-
es (e.g. causing lights to flicker).
With a mains impedance of Zmax < 0.25+j0.15
ohm, such disturbances are unlikely.
STARTING THE MOTOR
In order to start the motor, the locking wheel must
be fully screwed in (fig. 8).
Ensure that the grinder is empty before
starting the motor.
Start the motor by pressing the switch, 1 (fig. 9).
Allow the motor to pick up speed properly before
starting to feed in material.

ENGLISH
GB
MOTOR PROTECTION
The grinder is equipped with a built-in motor pro-
tection which prevents the motor being overload-
ed.
In the event of overloading, the motor switches off.
The current is broken.
After cooling down for one minute, the motor can
be restarted. Press the restart button, 2 (fig. 9), and
start the motor as normal.
Do not start the motor, pull out the plug, undo the
locking wheel (fig. 8) and open the compost grind-
er. Clean around the blade disc (fig. 10). Ensure
that no material is jamming the blade disc.
Close the compost grinder, screw the locking
wheel into place and start again. NOTE! A safety
switch in the motor housing prevents the motor
from starting if the locking wheel is not fully
screwed in (fig. 8).
STOPPING THE MOTOR
Stop the motor by pressing the switch, 1 (fig. 9).
Do not feed in any material after the mo-
tor has been stopped. This will get
caught in the machine and can make re-
starting impossible.
Disconnect the plug if the machine is to be left un-
supervised.
GRINDING
The following types of material can be ground in
the compost grinder:
- twigs and branches
- waste from cutting bushes
- waste from hedge-trimming
- plant parts and other garden waste which is
suitable for grinding.
To prevent damage to the machine, you are recom-
mended not to exceed the following maximum siz-
es of twigs and branches:
< 40 mm in diameter.
Feel free to stand the grinder on a tarpaulin or sim-
ilar before grinding. This will catch the ground ma-
terial and make removal easier.
The material that is to be ground is fed into the
feeding hopper and, assuming it is not too bulky,
pulled down to the blades.
The compost grinder is supplied with a feeder. The
feeder is used to feed down small, twigs, leafy ma-
terial and plant parts. Insert the feeder down to its
full length. Do not feed in new material until the
material that has already been fed in has been fully
ground.
Thick branches are ground most easily when they
are fresh.
A large proportion of garden waste contains a lot
of water and therefore sticks easily. Such material
should be allowed to dry for a few days before be-
ing processed.
The ground material that is ejected is collected by
the discharge chute while you work. The pile of
material builds up quickly, and can block the dis-
charge chute causing a stoppage. The material can
also be thrown back through the feeding hopper.
Move the grinder or remove the pile of ground ma-
terial in plenty of time.
Turn or replace the blades regularly. Sharp blades
make the work considerably easier, particularly
self-feeding.
Feed in loose grinding material in such quantities
that it can be processed.
Do not press thicker branches in against the
blades. They place an unnecessary burden on the
motor and the blades.
To avoid stoppages, listen to the motor speed. If
the revs drop significantly, pull back the branch
and wait until the revs increase. Carefully feed in
the branch again.
If the blades become blocked, read the safety in-
structions before opening the machine.
Ensure that there is no material in the feeding hop-
per when you finish your grinding work. This
could block the blades at the next start-up.
Store the grinder indoors in a dry place.
COMPOSTING
The processed material can be composted in vari-
ous ways:
- The material can be placed in a heap directly on
the ground (cold composting).
- The material can be placed in a plastic contain-
er, wooden crate, skeleton container or similar
(cold composting).

ENGLISH GB
- The material can be placed in an insulated com-
post holder. The heat is then held for longer and
the rotting process also continues during the
winter. This method produces faster results
(warm composting).
- The material can be spread directly onto the
garden (surface composting).
MAINTENANCE
Always disconnect the plug from the
electric socket before any adjustment
and maintenance.
REPLACING BLADES
The blades for the compost grinder have two cut-
ting edges. This means they are reversible.
When both cutting edges have been used, the
blades should be replaced. When replacing
blades, always use genuine Stiga blades.
Replace the blades as follows:
1. Switch off the motor and pull out the plug. Wait
until the blades have stopped.
2. Undo the locking wheel (fig. 8) and open the
compost grinder.
Always use protective gloves when
changing blades and cleaning the blade
disc.
3. Undo the screws using a screwdriver. There are
holes in the blade disc to simplify this. By
screwing through these holes, you prevent the
blade disc from turning (fig. 11).
4. Turn the blades and install with the sharp edge
facing the cutting direction. Tighten the screws
properly.
If both cutting edges of the blades have already
been used, replace with new genuine blades or
sharpen
SHARPENING THE BLADES
The blades are hardened and may therefore not be
sharpened on a grinding wheel.
Sharpening of the blades must be done by wet
method grinding, using a whetstone or a grind-
stone.
In order to avoid imbalance, the blades must be
ground so that both blades weigh exactly the same
after grinding.
CLEANING
Always clean the compost grinder after each use.
Switch off the motor and pull out the plug. Undo
the locking wheel (fig. 8) and open the compost
grinder. Clean carefully around the blade disc.
Never use water when cleaning the
grinder!
Brush away dirt and plant residue, which could be
caught in the blades.
SERVICE
Authorised service stations carry out repairs and
servicing. They always use genuine spare parts.
See attached list.
Do you carry out basic repairs yourself? If so, be
sure to use genuine spare parts. They fit perfectly
and make the work much easier.
When ordering spare parts, specify the name, item
number and serial number for the machine. This
information can be found on the identification
plate located on the machine.
Under no circumstances may parts oth-
er than genuine spare parts be used.
This is a requirement stipulated by the
Testing Authority. The machine is ap-
proved and tested with these parts.
The manufacturer reserves the right to make alter-
ations to the product without prior notification.
