STONE STOMPER Stone Guard User manual

Installation Guide
Thank you for purchasing our STONE STOMPER® stone guard. These installation
instructions are intended as a guide only to assist you to attach your STONE
STOMPER®securely to your vehicle and trailer. We use the following key to highlight
important information throughout this guide.
Warranty –Terms and Conditions
STONE STOMPER®warrants this product to be free of defects in material and workmanship
under normal use and service for the period of 12 months from the original consumer date of
purchase (proof of purchase is required).
Normal use does not include EXTREME OFF ROAD driving. eg. rock crawling.
We recommend removing the stone stomper mesh in thick muddy conditions. Clay like
mud may stick to the mesh and weigh it down which can result in dragging.
We also strongly recommend making the following minor exhaust tip modification to
redirect exhaust gases towards the ground in order to prevent damage to the canvas flaps or
mesh (see picture below).
STONE STOMPER®will not warrant any damage caused from the exhaust.

Step 1:
Bar Option 1:
Locate the L bracket with the large hole (as shown in the photo below). Attach this to
the bar with the canvas flaps using the high tensile nuts and bolts supplied.
Remove tow ball/treg hitch and place L bracket attached to bar over the tow ball hole
(as shown in the photo below). Replace tow ball/treg hitch.
Retighten securely to the towball manufacturers torque settings. The bar will need to
be mounted behind the angled bracket for the lower bar height settings. Tighten
securely.
Bar Option 2:
Place the bar with the canvas flaps over the top hole of the Hayman Reese post
Locate the long bolt in the kit, place through the holes and tighten securely.

Bar Option 3: standard shank and adjustable shank
Place the bar with the canvas flaps over the shank of the tow bar tongue.
Locate the long bolt in the kit, place through the holes and tighten securely.
Note: With our adjustable shank fitting also use the two smaller bolts supplied
to bolt the bar with the canvas flaps to the adjustable shank, the shank bracket
can face either way on the shank. (MKII Hayman Reese bracket picture below)

Fitting angle bracket with Hyland-DO35
The angled bracket with the two small holes and a large slot needs to be set
right back as far as the slot will allow on the tongue.
DO35 or 50mm towball
As there are many manufacturers of towbar tongues, the length of the flat section can
vary. To test for clearance we recommend fitting the angle bracket (without the bar
with the canvas flaps at this stage) to the tongue with the ball-DO35 pin in place.
Then by hand, holding the tongue, couple the tow ball-pin with the angled bracket fitted
in position to the ball-DO35 hitch.
Holding the end of the tongue, rotate from left to right making sure the Hyland-DO35
coupling clears the bracket. If theHyland-DO35 Hitch touches the angled bracket you
may need to obtain a tongue with a longer flat section to allow clearance. Any tow bar
place can supply these.

Your fixing point can be anywhere you can get a secure hold with the
brackets ie. cross beam, underside of van, chassis mounts.
Do not attempt to work under the trailer/van unless it is securely
attached to the vehicle with axle stands under the A-frame.
Step 2: Locate the two long brackets with holes (as shown in the photo below).
Attach the two brackets to the mesh using the D shackles. G clamp the
two brackets to the cross beam. This enables you to adjust the tension
on the mesh before fixing. The mesh does not need to be too tight, just
touching the A frame is fine.
Step 3: Once satisfied with the positioning of the brackets, check there are no
power cables, gas lines or water pipes behind your chosen fixing point. If
clear, attach the hex driver supplied in the kit, to your drill. Using the self
tapping screws supplied, secure the brackets to your chosen fixing
points. There is no need to pre-drill holes for the tech screws as they are
self tapping.
Once attached, the bungee running between the brackets can be
pulled and adjusted for any slack.

Step 4: Attach the other end of the mesh to the vehicle by connecting the snap
hooks to the eyelets on the bar (located in the pockets of the canvas). It
is important to make sure that each time you connect that you check the
clips are secured to the bar properly.
Step 5: The centre bungee then loops around the bar and attaches to the opposite
snap hook. This does not need to be overly tight, as it will draw the sides
of the mesh inwards.
Fitting to a factory fitted stone guard
Remove the bolt end bolt of the mud
flap if fitted with mud flaps. Locate
the two long brackets in the kit,
attach them to the mesh via the D
shackles and G clamp in position.
This allows you to adjust the tension
from side to side with the mesh.
Once satisfied drill through the
existing stone guards steel frame and
fix the brackets with the nuts and
bolts supplied in the kit.

Step 6: Final adjustments now can be made if required, by tightening and
moving the knot forward on all bungees. Note: The four middle
bungees in pockets need not be tensioned too tightly unless excess
sag (see picture below). The end of the bungee can then be fed
back up through the eyelet and tucked into the vinyl pocket.
Before first use make sure:
1. All bungees are knotted using figure eight or double knots and
are firmly tightened.
2. The two d-shackles are nipped up using pliers.
3. Check to see if there are any exposed bolts that hang down
which may rub against the mesh ie. handbrake fittings, u-bolts of
Hayman Reese. It is recommended you cover these with a
rubber type material to prevent wear.
4. If your vehicle has a lift kit fitted, we find the factory mud flaps are
not long enough exposing more tyre surface. These can be
extended with rubber from your local rubber stockists. If you
would like some pictures of customers who have extended their
mudflaps, send me an email.

Some extra tips to get the most from your Stone Stomper
We recommend you have the bar with the canvas
flaps sitting above the bottom edge of the bumper
bar to prevent stones from hitting the bar.
With some drop down hitches you may find the
bar is lower than the bumper.
If you find the bar is lower than the bottom edge
of the bumper we have an extension plate kit to
raise the bar (refer picture 1) for an extra $25.
Alternatively, you can give the bar a slight bend
up on each end in a vice (refer picture 2).
A good idea when you have stopped for a short
break and disconnect a couple of clips on the
mesh to access the back of the car, is to clip the
mesh up somewhere on the A-frame. This will
save you damaging the clips if you happen to
forget to re-connect and drive off.
The bar can also be given a slight bend towards
the bumper to close up the gap between the bar
and bumper. (refer picture 3).

Note: We offer a repair service in the unfortunate event you damage the mesh. We can stitch vinyl inserts
over the damaged area returning the mesh to its’ original condition. Please email us first with a picture
so that we can assess the work required and provide a quote.

Once you have installed the stone guard have a look to see if the mesh is going to rub on any
metal edges, brake levers, weight distribution bars, U bolts.
To prevent wear we advise to wrap these areas with the black soft plumbers foam used to
insulate copper pipes (refer pictures 6 & 7).
If using cable ties to attach the foam make sure the locking part of the cable ties are facing
away from the mesh.
If you have Hayman Reese bars which hang a long way down below the A frame, you can
make a small cross cut in the vinyl/mesh to run the chains through (refer pictures 4 & 5).
The mesh and vinyl are made from Ripstop so will not tear.
Maintaining your Stone Stomper ®
After each trip we recommend:
Lay the mesh on the lawn and sprinkle some dish detergent over the top.
Scrub lightly with a soft broom and running water.
Repeat the process on the other side of the Stone Stomper and hang it up on the
washing line, thoroughly hosing off any excess detergent.
Leave to dry.
Once dry lubricate the snap hooks with a quick spray of WD-40, wipe off excess spray.
Store or re-attach ready for your next adventure.
