totheMHsidetorunaMetalHalidelamporHPStorunaHighPressureSodiumlamp.ForaSS-61000switchable,select
theHPSoptionoftheballastbypushingthebottomoftheswitchsothattheredpartoftheswitchisvisible.Pressthetop
partoftheswitchforMH.ASS-6400switchableismarkedHPS400fortheHPSsideandMH400fortheMHside.
4.Connectthesockettothehangingreector(seereectorsetupFig.4).Ifthelampcordisincludedwiththe
reector,skipthisstep.

TheCWA(ConstantWattageAutotransformer)utilizesasingleCOMMONwire,whichiscommontoalltapsonthe
ballast.Also,whenanytapontheballastisenergized,alltapsbecomeenergizedtothatpotential.Forexample,
whenasystemispluggedinto120volt,theunused240volttapisstillenergizedtoapproximately240volt.
Rewiringtheballastfrom120voltto240voltonlyrequiresthechangeofasinglewire.Additionallythereisa
requiredchangeontheoppositesideofthepowercord,whichischangingtheplugfromastandard120voltplug
(NEMA5-15P)toastandard240voltplug(NEMA6-15P).Thissoundssimple,butinrealityitisnotthateasy.
Thisrequiresreplacingthe120voltpowercordfora240voltpowercordinmostcases.WedesignedourMVP™
toreducethehassle,expenseandpotentialsafetyhazards.

5.Nowconnectthelampcordtotheremoteballast(Fig.2).Makesuretoattachthesecurement
earstotheplug.
6.Carefullyscrewtheproperlampintothesocket.Refertolampinginstructionsontheballast.
7.ForSS-6unitsmakesuretoselectthepropersettingontheballasttomatchthelampthat
isbeingused.MakesuretheswitchisproperlysetforeitherMHorHPStypelamp(Fig.3).
8.Lastly,turnthesystemonbypluggingthepowercordintotheproperNEMAcongured
receptacle.
9.YoumustuseaproperlyratedMVP™cord(120or240volt)forthepowerthatyouareusing.If you energize this ballast
with 240 volt power while using a 120 volt MVP™ cord (by cutting the plug off), you will “fry” the ballast and
void the warranty. If you want to run this ballast with 240 volt power, you must purchase a 240 volt MVP™ cord
separately.

BULB INFORMATION:
Proper Bulb Care
Bulbsshouldbereplacedeveryyeartomaintainmaximumlumenoutput.Ifalampfailsto
reachbrightness,pleasecontactyourretailstore.
Fluorescent fixtures
Iftherearebulbsthatwillnotre,tryswappingthebulbsaroundforothersthatareworking.
Thiswillhelpdetermineifthebulbsaredefective.

1.See(Fig.5)forattachingthesocketonreectorswhichdonotincludethesocket.
2.Somereectorswillcomewithabuilt-insocketassembly,whileothersyouwillneedtopurchase
oneseparately.
3.Ifthereectordoesnothaveabuiltinsocket,useasocketassemblythatissoldseparately.
ChoosefromProductNo.903055or903060.
4.Somereectorsincludeglass.Forotherreectorsitmaybepurchasedseparatelyifyouchoose

LINEAR FLUORESCENT SETUP:

1.Removethesystemfromtheboxalongwithalladditionalparts.
2.Hangtheunitusingtheeyebolts,V-hangersandjackchainprovided(Optional
cablehangersystemscanbepurchasedseparately).
3.Insertlamps(refertolabelonproductforcorrectlamp)intothesystem.Todothis,
slidebothendsofthelampintothelampholdersandrotatethelamp90ºineither
direction(Fig.8a).FortheReadyFit®T5unscrewthewaterproofprotectiveplastic
covercounterclockwise.Theprotectivecoverwillhavetogodirectlyontothelamp
beforeinsertingintothelampholder(Fig.8b).Insertlampandrotate90ºineither
directionandslidethewaterproofprotectivecoverbackonandtighten.
4.SomeNewWave®&SunBlaze®modelshavethecapabilitytobedaisychained
together.Donotexceed7.5ampsonanyxtureschainedtogether.Donotdaisy
chainmorexturestogetherthanwhatisspeciedonthexture.Chainingmore
xturestogetherthanspeciedwillvoidthewarrantyonallxtures.
REFLECTOR MOUNTING HEIGHTS
AgeneralguidelinefortheproperhangingheightofanH.I.D.lampwouldbe12”-48”dependingonwattage(seebelow).
Makesuretocheckforexcessiveheatatthetopofyourplantsbyplacingyourhand(palmdown)overyourplants.Ifthetop
ofyourhandishot,youneedtomoveyourlampuphigher.Ifthelightsourceistooclosetoyourplants,youcanburnthem.
Rememberthatasyourplantsgrowyouwillneedtoadjusttheheightofyourlamp.
Pleasekeepinmindthatthelatestair-cooledreectors,liketheSuperSun®2allowyoutoplacehigherwattagebulbscloser
toplantsthanwaspossibleinthepast.
Whenyouraisethelightup&awayfromyourplants,youneedtobeawarethatthelightlevelstoyourplantswillbesigni-
cantlyreduced.
Aslightmovesawayfromitssource(thelamp)itdiminishesasfollows:1/Distance2.Forexample:1ft.=1000FTC,2ft.=
250FTC,3ft.=111FTC,4ft.=63FTC,5ft.=40FTC,&6ft.=28FTC(FTC=footcandle).

TROUBLESHOOTING… IF YOUR FIXTURE DOES NOT WORK:
1. CHECKYOURELECTRICALSOURCE:Makesuretheunitispluggedinproperlyandthatthebreakerisnottripped
orfuseblown.
2. CHECKTHELAMP:Makesurethelampisscrewedinalltheway.
3. FORT5FLUORESCENTFIXTURES:Checktoensurelampsareproperlylockedintoplace.Thisisaccomplishedby
turningthelamps¼turnineitherdirection.
4. Tryadifferentlampifyouhaveoneavailable.Makesureunitisunpluggedwhenchanginglamps.
5. Makesureyouhavethecorrectlampforyourballast,i.e.anHPSlampwillnotignitewithaMHballast.
6.MVP™(MultiVoltPowerCord):WhenusingaMVP™plug,onlyusetheonedistributedwiththeunitor
purchasedatoneofourAuthorizedRetailers.DONOTmakeanychangestothePowerCord.ThiswillVOID
thewarranty.
Potential Fixture FAQ’s
Symptom: My ballast is humming but the light isn’t coming on.
Solution: Theremaybeacoupleofreasonsforthis:1)thelampisnotscrewedintightenough,or2)thelamp
isdefective.Pleaseallow5-10minutesforlampstoinitiallyignite.Ifthisdoesnotsolvetheproblem,returnthe
unittothedealerfortesting.

Symptom: My ballast makes an excessive amount of noise.
Solution:Keepinmindthatthehigherthewattage,thelouderthehummingnoiseemitted.However,ifthenoise
levelisextreme,thetransformermayhavecomeloose.Inthiscase,theballastunitshouldbereturnedtoSunlight
Supply®,Inc.forrepairifitisstillunderwarrantyandhasbeenusedundernormaloperatingconditions.
Symptom: Every time I turn on the light fixture, the circuit breaker trips.
Solution:Youmayhavetoomanyappliancesonthiscircuit.Anormalhome’scircuithasonly15ampsavailable.
TheseH.I.D.lightsuseupto10ampsperunit.Pleasemakesureyouarenotoverloadingthecircuitwithtoomany
appliancesand/orlights.Note:Thestickerontheballastwillstatethenumberofampsrequiredbythatparticular
unit.Ifyoudorequiremorelights/appliancestoallberunoffthesamecircuit,youshouldconsultanlicensed
Electrician.
Symptom: I turned off my HID light and now it won’t come back on.
Solution:Yourlampmaytakeupto20minutestocooldownbeforeitcanberedupagain.Fluorescentlamps
shouldbealmostimmediate.
Symptom: My lamp has small pieces of glass inside of it.
Solution:Itiscommonforsmallpiecesofglasstobreaklooseinsidethelamps;thiswillnotaffectthelamps
output.Ifthereisacrackorholeintheouterglass,itshouldbereplaced.

How do I know my lamps are functioning normally?
FACTS about HID and FLUORESCENT LAMPS:
• ItmaytakeHIDorT5uorescent10-15minutestocometofullbrightness.
• HID:Duringtherstfewhoursofuse,thelightfromthelampmightoscillate.
• HID:Thelightwilldecreaseinintensityduringthelifeofthelamp.
• HID:Duringthersthours,intensityofthelightmayuctuatesomewhat,whichisnormal.Howeverafteritreaches
100hoursof“burnin”time,willcontinueevenlytheremainderofit'slife(withnormalagingreduction).
• Both:AveragelifeofaMH(metalhalide)lampis12,000hoursfora1000wattlampand20,000hoursfora400
wattlamp.TheratedhourlifeofaHPSlampis24,000hours.Mostuserschoosetoreplacelampsbeforethey
ceasetooperateduetolumenlossandspectralshift.T5uorescentlampsofferaratedhourlifeof20,000hours
andhaveamuchslowerlumenlossandspectralshiftthanHIDlamps.
POWER USAGE:
Onaverage,alightsystemwillincreaseyourelectricitycostfrom$8to$20permonth—theexactamountdepends
onthesizeofthesystemandthenumberofhoursoperated.However,sincethesegrowlightsaresoenergyef-
cient,youaregettinghugeamountsoflight(andgrowingpower)foryourmoney!Makesureyourgrowroom’s
powercircuitcanhandlethepowerdraw.Forsafetyreasons,donotexceed75%oftheratedabilityofthefuse/
breaker(forexample:usenomorethan15ampsona20ampcircuit).Tocalculateyourcost,multiplythebulb
wattageXhoursofoperationanddivideby1000.Thisgureisthenumberofkilowatthoursofelectricityconsumed.
(Example:a400wattbulbrunningfor18hourswilluse7.2kilowatthours).Checkyourpowerbillforthecostof
eachkilowatthour.Thenmultiplythenumberofkilowatthoursbythecostofakilowatthour(K/hr)toarriveat
thecostpermonthtorunthelightinyourarea.
