3 Application
3 Application
S531 is a hand-held ultrasonic leak detector that helps you quickly find
and record leakages in compressed air or any gas systems.
When gases leak through tubes and tanks, an ultrasonic sound is
produced. S531 can detect the sound from several-meter away, and
transform the inaudible sound into a frequency that can be easily heard
by ears.
In unpressurised systems, you can use an ultrasonic tone generator to
generate sounds that can be detected by S531.
4 Features
•Finds leaks in the compressed air or gas system easily even from
distance
•High resolution 3.5” color touch screen, easing operations in leak
detection
•Wireless connection with headset
•Built-in camera to take photo of leak locations
•Voice recorder for voice memos
•Laser pointer to pinpoint leak locations
•Records leak information for statistics and repair
•Calculates air loss in l/min, m3/h or cfm and in the local currency
•Integrated noise reduction technology
•Battery capacity for up to 8 hours

8 Before you start for the first time
3. Click Language and specify the device language.
4. Click Date/Time and specify the data, time, and time zone.
Note: Wrong settings will lead to wrong date and time in a leak record.
5. To enable the wireless headset, do the following:
A. Click Pairing Headset and then turn on the Wireless Headset
toggle.
B. Power on the headset by pressing and holding the Power button
for 3 seconds.
After wireless connection is built, the message “EDIFIER W860NB

10 Setting up and Starting a leak survey
10 Setting up and Starting a leak survey
A leak detection project is managed by “survey”. To conduct leak
detection, the first step is to create and start a leak survey. Detailed
steps are as follows:
1. Creating a survey
2. Specifying the survey settings
3. Starting the survey
10 1 Creating a survey
To conduct a leak survey for a site, you must first create the survey in
the S531.
Steps:
1. Access Menu > Survey Start.
2. Enter the survey ID and site name.
3. Click Create.
4. In the Confirmation pop-up window
that appears, check the input
information, and if correct, click Yes.
10 2 Specifying the survey settings
After you create a survey, specify the site-specific survey settings, such
as media, pressure, distance, and units of flow, pressure and currency.
1. Access Menu > Survey Settings.
2. Click Media Setting, and configure
the gas media to be detected.
3. Click Pressure setting, and
Configure the pressure of the to-be-
detected media.
4. Click Flow Unit Setting, and select from m3/h, l/min and cfm
(default: l/min).
S531 19

10 Setting up and Starting a leak survey
5. Click Pressure Unit Setting, and select from bar, psi, MPa (default:
bar).
6. Click Cost Setting, and configure cost related settings, such as the
operating hours per year (default: 6400), currency unit in the
alphabetical code stipulated in ISO 4217 (for example, USD for the US
currency and CNY for the Chinese currency. Default: USD), and cost
per cubic meter (default: 0.02).
Note: Once the survey is started, the currency unit cannot be
changed. To change it, you must create a new survey.
10 3 Starting the survey
After you create a survey and specify its settings, now you can start the
survey to enable the leak detection and recording on the S531.
1. Access Menu > Survey Start.
2. On the Survey Start screen that
appears, click Start.
3. In the Confirmation pop-up window,
check the survey information. If correct,
click Yes to confirm.
Now the Record button on the home
screen is enabled and the “Survey On”
status is shown on the left top of the
screen.
10 4 Stopping the survey
Stop the survey to trigger the S531 to store the leak records detected in
this survey into a CSV file.
1. Access Menu > Survey Stop.
2. Click Stop.
The Record button is disabled on the screen.
