• Do not mow in eve se. Always look down and behind befo e and while
backing.

• Tu n off the blades when not mowing. Befo e leaving the machine, tu n off the
blades and stop the engine.
• Watch fo t affic when ope ating nea o c ossing oadways.
• Do not ope ate the mowe if it has been d opped o damaged in any manne
o if the mowe vib ates excessively. Excessive vib ation is an indication of
damage. Repai mowe as necessa y.
• D ess p ope ly. Do not ope ate the mowe when ba efoot o wea ing open
sandals. Wea only solid shoes with good t action when mowing.
• Do not ope ate the machine while unde the influence of alcohol o d ugs.
• Ope ate self-p opelled machines up and down slopes. The e is significant isk
of ove tu ns when ope ating ac oss slopes. Ope ate walk-behind machines ac oss
slopes. The e is a significant isk of slipping unde a walk-behind machine when
ope ating up and down slopes. Do not ope ate on slopes g eate than 15 deg ees.
• Neve tampe with safety devices. Check thei p ope ope ation egula ly.
• Stop and inspect the equipment if you st ike an object. Repai , if necessa y,
befo e esta ting.
• Neve make adjustments o epai s with the engine unning.

OPERATING YOUR TRAILMOWER
INTENDED USE
The 44” T ailMowe is designed to p oduce a quality finish cut on lawns, golf cou ses,
etc. It is not intended to clea b ush o cut saplings. You T ailMowe should be
towed behind an ATV, golf ca t, lawn t acto , o othe app oved vehicle. It is not
designed fo speeds exceeding 5 MPH.
WARNING: To avoid se ious inju y,
ope ate you mowe up and down the face of slopes, NEVER ac oss the face. DO
NOT MOW SLOPES GREATER THAN 15 DEGREES! (See attached guide fo
sighting slopes.)
ATTACHING TRAILMOWER TO TOW VEHICLE
• Back vehicle up to desi ed towing position.
• Offset the T ailMowe to the side opposite the tow vehicle discha ge (if any).
This p events the tow vehicle f om th owing g ass into T ailMowe engine.
• Bolt swivel hitch (H10) to tow vehicle eceive . If tow vehicle has a ball hitch,
the ball must be emoved befo e swivel hitch can be fastened.
• Attach tow hitch (4582) to the swivel hitch with hitch pin (H11). Make ce tain
the hitch pin goes completely th ough each piece and is clipped to p event
accidental sepa ation. (FIGURE FOUR)
• Secu ely attach safety tethe (6736) to tow vehicle and to the T ailMowe
toggle switch located on ight side of the engine. The safety tethe will stop the
T ailMowe engine eithe manually o if the two should become sepa ated. It is
very important that the safety tether is securely attached to both the toggle
switch and to the tow vehicle. (FIGURE TWO)
The ope ation of any mowe can p oduce fo eign objects to be th own into the
eyes, esulting in seve e eye damage. Always wea ce tified safety glasses o
wide-vision safety goggles ove spectacles befo e sta ing any cutting machine
and while ope ating such a machine.
The ope ation of any cutte p oduces sound waves that a e damaging to the
human ea . Ea p otection is ecommended.
CAUTION!
T agic accidents can occu if the ope ato is not ale t to the p esence of
child en. Child en a e often att acted to the machine and the mowing
activity. Never assume that children will remain where you last saw
them.
TRANSPORTING MOWER
• Stop T ailMowe .
• Place T ailMowe deck in its highest position.
• When t anspo ting unattached f om tow vehicle, emove spa k plug wi e
and place it whe e it cannot contact the spa k plug.

• Set vehicle pa king b ake o chock wheels to p event accidental olling.
• Sta t engine p ope ly.
• Slowly, engage blade cont ol.
• In a safe envi onment, i.e. no child en, allow blades to otate and engine to
idle fo 5 minutes. This b eaks in the belts and the engine.
• Stop mowe p ope ly.
ENGAGING BLADES (without T handle option, Standard)
The T ailMowe will not sta t if the blade leve is in the “ENGAGED” position.
• Engage blades by otating blade leve into the “ENGAGED” position.
• Rotate blade leve in opposite di ection to disengage blade.
• The dual b aking system is applied when the blades become disengaged. It is
designed to b ing the blades to quick stop (app oximately 7 seconds). Each
T ailMowe b ake system has been tested and calib ated. Fo safety, the
consume should not alte the b aking system.
ENGAGING BLADES (with T handle option, for order information see detail)
The T ailMowe will not sta t if the T-handle console is in the “ENGAGED”
position.
• Engage blades by pulling T-handle leve into its ho izontal position.
• Retu n leve to its ve tical position to disengage blades.
• The dual b aking system is applied when the blades become disengaged. It
is designed to b ing the blades to quick stop. Each T ailMowe b ake system
has been tested and calib ated. Fo safety, the consume should not alte the
b aking system.
STARTING THE ENGINE
See engine manufactu e ’s ecommendations fo the type and amount of oil and fuel
used. T ail Mowe s equipped with an elect ic sta t engine will need a batte y (sold
sepa ately). Swishe ecommends using a standa d “12N12A” batte y.
• Make su e the tow vehicle pa king b ake is set, mowe is level, and blades a e
disengaged. Engine must be level to accu ately check and fill oil. Do not ove fill.
• Check spa k plug wi e, oil, and fuel.
• Check all elect ical connections fo build-up o deb is.
• Make su e toggle switch is not tu ned “OFF” and safety tethe is attached.
• Set engine Th ottle to “Run” position (Rabbit).
•Move the “Choke” Leve to the on position. (Cold engine only)
• With feet clea of mowe deck, tu n key switch to the “START” position; elease
when engine begins to un (12volt models). Recoil models must use pull- ope.
Pull ope with a single fluid motion.
• Set engine th ottle at maximum RPM.
• Allow engine to un a few moments befo e engaging blades.
BREAKING IN YOUR MOWER
CAUTION!
SHUT OFF MOWER ENGINE AND REMOVE SPARK PLUG WIRE FROM
SPARK PLUG BEFORE MAKING ANY ADJUSTMENTS TO THE MOWER.

• The e is app oximately 1 ½” to 4 ½” of height adjustment.
• Rotate height adjust c ank handle(s) in a clockwise di ection to lift the mowe
deck. A counte -clockwise di ection is used to lowe the mowe deck.
• Fo best esults, see “SUGGESTED PRACTICE” section. G aduated scales
a e fo efe ence only, not the actual cutte height.
• B ing tow vehicle to a complete stop, shut off engine, and set pa king b ake.
• Disengage blades.
• Manually shut toggle switch and/o key switch to thei “OFF” positions.
• Always emembe to emove keys to avoid i esponsible usage. (Elect ic
Sta t models only)
• Adjust the cutting height.
• Double check vehicle to mowe attachment.
• Sta t mowe engine and set th ottle to “FAST” fo best cutting pe fo mance.
• Slowly engage blade clutch leve .
• Ca efully mount vehicle and sta t mowing at a slow t avel speed.
• Swishe ecommends if the tow vehicle is equipped with a mid-mount mowe
to ove lap the cut app oximately 6”. This may va y depending on mowing
te ain, obstacles, and/o tow vehicle. Always keep SAFETY the fi st p io ity.
• If the tow vehicle is not equipped with a mid-mount mowe , we still
ecommend offsetting the mowe so that the tow vehicle does not c ush the
g ass.
• To change the offsetting position both ball-lock pins should be emoved
(Figu e One). The hitches will swivel a ound emaining bolts. Set hitches to
desi ed positions and etu n ball-lock pins, making su e they go th u the hitch
tubing and the semi-ci cled hole patte ned plates.
• Remove bolts f om the “L” hitch (H1), (SEE FIGURE FOUR).
• Raise o lowe hitch section to obtain p ope f ont to back adjustment.
• Re-install bolts in “L” hitch secu ely.
MOWER HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT
• Make adjustments while T ailMowe is not unning.
FRONT TO BACK ADJUSTMENT
Fo best cutting esults, the mowing deck should be aised to ¾” highe in the
ea .
• Make adjustments while T ailMowe is not unning.
TOW HITCH OFFSET
This T ailMowe has been designed to ope ate offset f om the cente of the tow
vehicle o consecutively with anothe T ailMowe , p oviding additional cutting width.
When offsetting the mowe do so to the side opposite the discha ge of the tow
vehicle.

SUGGESTED MOWING PRACTICES
• Ope ate mowe engine at full th ottle to assu e the best cutting pe fo mance and
maximum mate ial discha ge.
• Allow wet g ass to d y. Wet g ass will clump and collect unde the mowing deck.
• Mowing should be sta ted with tow vehicle in low gea and inc eased only as safe
mowing conditions pe mit. Mowing speed should not exceed 5 MPH.
• The ave age lawn should be cut to app oximately 2.5” du ing the cool season and to
ove 3” du ing the hot months.
• Fo a healthie lawn and bette aesthetics, you lawn should be mowed often and
afte mode ate g owth.
• When cutting high o dense g ass a eas go slowly. Some a eas may need to be
mowed twice. The second cut should be at 90 deg ees to the fi st, if possible.
•Mowing thick or high grass: Raise ea of deck to ½” to ¾” above f ont of the
deck. See “FRONT TO BACK ADJUSTMENT”. When mowing thick o high g ass,
it is ecommended to cut a ea twice. The fi st at a highe setting and the second at the
desi ed lawn height.
•Creating a manicured lawn: Neve cut mo e than 1/3 of the g ass height in one
cutting.
GENERAL TROUBLE SHOOTING
The mowe is not cutting level.
•Check ai p essu e of all ti es; make su e they a e equal. See ti es fo
maximum inflation.
• Make ce tain blades a e installed identical, without the engine unning.
The engine will not sta t.
• Disengage blades, tu n toggle switch to “OFF” position, check batte y and all
othe elect ical connections, and inspect spa k plug and wi e (FIGURE
THREE).
• Contact engine manufactu e o qualified mechanic.
Engine uns poo ly.
• See engine manual.
• Check the th ottle adjuste .
• Replace fuel, clean fuel filte and fuel line.
• Check spa k plug and gap.
Mowe bounces excessively while towing.
• Lowe ti e p essu e.
• Tow at a slowe speed.
IF PROBLEMS PERSIST HAVE A QUALIFIED MECHANIC SERVICE THE
MOWER. NEVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE AN ADJUSTMENT THAT YOU
ARE NOT SURE IS CORRECT. DOING SO CAN CAUSE OTHER
PROBLEMS.

MOWER MAINTENANCE
GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS
The wa anty on this T ailMowe does not cove items that have been subjected to
ope ato abuse o negligence. To eceive full value f om the wa anty, ope ato must
maintain unit as inst ucted in this manual.
Some adjustments will need to be made pe iodically to maintain you unit p ope ly.
All adjustments in this manual should be checked at least once each season.
BEFORE EACH USE
• Check engine oil level on a level su face. (Check twice to insu e an accu ate
eading.)
• Check condition of ai filte ; clean and eplace as necessa y.
• Check blade ope ation; keep blades in good condition.
• Check fo loose fastene s and tighten them as needed.
AFTER EACH USE
• Keep blades sha p.
• Remove f esh g ass clippings with ga den hose.
• Ha dened g ass clippings on unde side should be sc aped out with a putty
knife.
• Keep fluids at p ope levels.
• Cove unit to p event ain o othe deb is build-up. Definitely cove the
engine.
BEFORE AND/OR AFTER EACH SEASON
• Replace the spa k plug.
• Clean o eplace the ai filte .
• A new spa k plug and clean ai filte assu e p ope ai -fuel mixtu e and help
you engine un bette and last longe .
• Check blades and belts fo wea . Replace as necessa y.
• Change the oil.
• See engine manufactu e ’s ecommendations fo se vicing.
STORAGE RECOMMENDATIONS
CAUTION! Do not sto e engine indoo s o othe poo ly ventilated a ea. Keep
engine away f om gas appliances and wate heate s whe e fumes could contact
open flame, pilot lights, o spa ks.
If engine is to be stored for 30 or more days, prepare unit as follows:
· D ain fuel outside into an app oved containe .
· Sta t engine p ope ly and un until unit is out of fuel.
· Let engine cool.
· Remove emaining gasoline f om ca bu eto and fuel tank to p event gum
deposits f om fo ming within the engine. Gum deposits can cause
malfunction in the engine.
· Sto e mowe with blades disengaged to p event belts f om being pe manently
st etched.

BLADE CARE AND SERVICE
Fo best esults cutte blades must be kept sha p. The blades can be sha pened with a
few st okes of a file o g inding wheel. Do not attempt to sha pen blades while they a e
on the cutte . Disconnect spark plug wire before servicing unit.
Important: Replace blades that have been damaged or deeply nicked.
Impo tant: Check blade and spindle ha dwa e on a egula basis to make su e nuts
a e tight.
Only a qualified mechanic should make any
adjustments, disassembly or other kind of repairs.
REPAIR PARTS
You 44” T ailMowe has been p oduced with components designed specific to this
machine. Although standa d V-belts, sp ings, bea ings, blades, pulleys, ha dwa e, etc.
look simila to pa ts used on othe machine y, they may in some cases be made of a
diffe ent const uction and/o mate ials.
