equipment, lawn mowe s can be potentially dange ous if not p ope ly used.

• Always disconnect the spa k plug wi e and place the wi e whe e it cannot contact the
spa k plug, to p event accidental sta ting the engine when setting up, t anspo ting,
adjusting o making epai s.
• Keep all shields and gua ds in place.
• Unde stand the speed, stee ing and stability of this machine. Know the positions and
ope ations of all cont ols befo e you ope ate this machine. Check all of the cont ols in
a safe a ea befo e sta ting to wo k with this machine.
• Allow only esponsible adults who a e familia with these inst uctions to ope ate this
machine. Never allow children to operate this machine.
• Clea the a ea of objects such as ocks, toys, wi e, etc. that can be picked up and

and stop the engine.

• Do not ope ate the mowe if it has been d opped o damaged in any manne o if the
mowe vib ates excessively. Excessive vib ation is an indication of damage. Repai mowe
as necessa y.
• D ess p ope ly. Do not ope ate the mowe when ba efoot o wea ing open sandals. Wea
only solid shoes with good t action when mowing.
• Neve allow ope ation by unt ained pe sons.
• Do not ope ate the machine while unde the influence of alcohol o d ugs.
• Do not ope ate on slopes g eate than 15 deg ees.
• Neve tampe with safety devices. Check thei p ope ope ation egula ly.
• Stop and inspect the equipment if you st ike an object. Repai , if necessa y, befo e
esta ting. Neve make adjustments o epai s with the engine unning.
• Mowe blades a e sha p and can cut. W ap the blades o wea gloves, and use ext a
caution when se vicing them. Do not ope ate at too fast a ate.
• Disengage spa k plug wi e and place whe e it cannot make a connection.
• Check engine oil. All engines a e filled with oil at the facto y. Ve ify oil level and
add if necessa y befo e sta ting engine (See Engine Owne ’s Manual).
• Ve ify fuel level and add if necessa y befo e sta ting engine.
• Reconnect spa k plug wi e.
• Refe to pages 5-7 in this manual fo p ope ope ating p ocedu es.

The ope ation of any mowe can p oduce fo eign objects to be th own into the
eyes, esulting in seve e eye damage. Always wea ce tified safety glasses o
wide-vision safety goggles ove spectacles befo e sta ting any cutting machine and
while ope ating such a machine.
The ope ation of any mowe p oduces sound waves that a e damaging to the
human ea . Ea p otection is ecommended.
CAUTION!
T agic accidents can occu if the ope ato is not ale t to the p esence of
child en. Child en a e often att acted to the machine and the mowing
activity. Never assume that children will remain where you last saw them.
OPERATING YOUR NEW WALK BEHIND
INTENDED USE
This is not a lawn mowe . The P edato is designed fo cutting ove g own b ush, weeds,
and othe types of o ganic g owth. This unit is capable of clea ing small saplings of 1.5”
in diamete o less.
PROPULSION
The P edato is self-p opelled and is cont olled by a “GROUND CONTROL” leve . To
engage the d ive, put the t ansaxle in a gea and activate the left leve . Releasing the
leve will disengage the self-p opel.
Unde most conditions cutting should be done in a low gea (1st o 2nd). Uppe gea s
should be used fo conditions whe e weeds and b ush a e thinned out o not as tall. In
confined a eas the machine can be pushed fo wa ds o backwa ds by eleasing the
“GROUND CONTROL” leve , placing the t ansaxle in neut al, and pushing the
machine.
TRAVEL SPEED
Speed can be va ied by choosing a highe o lowe gea using the gea shift leve at the
ea of the machine o by changing the engine speed with the engine th ottle. Do not
adjust speed with the blade engaged. To shift the cutte into eve se, elease “GROUND
CONTROL” leve , disengage blade, and otate the shift leve to the left. When the leve
stops, lift up the eve se lockout latch and continue to move the shift leve to the left until
it stops again. The Predator is equipped with a safety control that will kill the engine
if the blade is engaged while cutter is in the “REVERSE” gear.
ENGAGING BLADE
An “OPERATOR PRESENCE” leve and a “BLADE ENGAGE DRIVE” cont ol wo k
togethe to engage the P edato ’s blade. Both devices must be activated befo e the blade
will wo k. Releasing the “OPERATOR PRESENCE” leve will disengage both the blade
and the “BLADE ENGAGE DRIVE” cont ol.

STARTING THE ENGINE
See engine manufacturer’s recommendations for the type and amount of oil and fuel used.
Engine must be level to accurately check and fill oil. Do not overfill.
• Make sure unit is level, blade is disengaged, and transaxle in NEUTRAL”
• Check spark plug wire, oil level, and fuel level.
• Check all electrical connections for build-up of debris.
• If needed set CHOKE” to choke position.
• Set engine throttle control to ½ throttle position.
• Pull rope with a single fluid motion.
• After engine has started set CHOKE” to RUN” position.
STOPPING
• Bring the Walk Behind to a complete stop.
• Disengage mower blade.
• Reduce engine idle speed, and allow engine to run momentarily for cooling.
• Place transaxle in the NEUTRAL” position.
• Move engine throttle control to OFF” position.
HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT
• Place two 6” wooden blocks under the deck on the side being adjusted.
• Remove nuts and bolts from the side runner.
• Slide skid up or down to preferred position.
• Replace the nuts and bolts making certain they are tightened securely.
• Repeat for the other side. Runners should be at the same height.
BREAKING IN YOUR WALK BEHIND
• Start engine properly.
• Slowly engage blade control.
• Under supervision, allow blade to rotate and engine to idle for 5 minutes.
• Disengage blade.
• Shift through each gear. While in each gear engage the GROUND CONTROL” lever
and travel 20 yards to ensure transaxle works properly.
BEGIN CUTTING
• Make sure area is clear of all bystanders.
• Make sure that all guards, belt guides, and the spark plug wire are properly attached.
• Start engine, set engine throttle control at maximum engine idle speed for best results.
• Allow engine to run a few moments and slowly engage blade.
• Move transaxle into low gear and activate GROUND CONTROL” lever.
• Turning is done by rotating the handles left or right. This machine has significant
weight and may take more effort to turn than one may expect. Turning could take
practice.
BACKING UP
• Disengage blade.
• Check behind you for safety.
• Move transaxle into REVERSE” position.
• Activate GROUND CONTROL” lever.

IMPORTANT: This engine is not equipped with a spark arrester muffler. It is a violation of
California Public Resource Code Section 444 to use or operate the engine on any forest-covered,
brush-covered, or grass-covered land. Other states or federal areas may have similar laws.

TRANSPORTING
• Shut off engine.
• Secu e in place while unit is being t anspo ted.
• Unit should be left in low gea to avoid any slight olling.
SUGGESTED PRACTICES
• Always ope ate engine at full th ottle when cutting to assu e the best cutting
pe fo mance and p ope discha ge of mate ial.
• If g ass is wet, allow it to d y. Wet g ass clumps will collect on the bottom of the
deck.
• Go slow when cutting dense a eas. Some dense a eas may need to be gone ove
twice. Bette esults occu if the second cut is 90 deg ees to the fi st cut.
BEFORE EACH SEASON
A new spa k plug and clean ai filte assu e p ope ai -fuel mixtu e and help you engine un
bette and last longe .
• Replace the spa k plug.
• Clean o eplace the ai filte .
• Check blades and belts fo wea .
BEFORE EACH USE
• Check engine oil level. Do this twice to ensu e an accu ate eading.
• Check condition of ai filte and clean o eplace if necessa y.
• Check blade ope ation.
• Check fo loose fastene s.
DAILY MAINTENANCE
Make su e all nuts and bolts a e tight and cotte pins and etaine sp ings a e secu e.
Keep blades sha p. Obse ve all safety p ecautions.
BLADE CARE AND SERVICE
Fo best esults blades must be kept sha p. The blades can be sha pened with a few st okes of a
file o g inding wheel. Do Not attempt to sha pen blades while they a e on the machine.
Important: Replace blades that have been damaged or deeply nicked.
Important: Check blade and spindle hardware on a regular basis to make sure nuts are
tight.
