precautions carefully before use. Explain their
contents to your children, and the potential
hazards associated with using the telephone.
Only use the mains unit supplied.
Fit only the approved rechargeable
battery pack! Never use a conventional
(non-rechargeable) battery pack as this
could damage your health and cause injury.
Use the battery pack as directed in this
manual (page 3).
The operation of medical appliances may be
affected. Be aware of the technical condi-
tions in your particular environment
(e.g. doctor's practice).
The handset may cause an intrusive 'hum' in
hearing aids. Do not hold the handset
against your ear while it is ringing (incom-
ing call).

Do not keep the charging cradle in wash-
rooms or shower-rooms. The handset and
the charging cradle are not watertight

Setting up the handset for use
Handapparat Classic S112 / SWZ englisch / A31008-M1605-F151-7619 / main.fm / 08.04.2005
Setting up the handset for use
Fitting the battery pack
uTo open the battery compartment, push
the tongue on the battery cover inwards
(see picture on left) and lift off the cover.
uFit the right side of the battery pack under
the clips then press down on the left side so
that the pack snaps home.
uPlug the jack firmly into the socket
(see picture on right).
uTo close the battery compartment, position
the cover and press until it snaps home.
Registering the handset on the
base
You must register the handset on the base in
order to make calls. The handset registers with
the base automatically when the Classic S112
handset is placed in the Classic S112 Base sta-
tion. If you want to use the Classic S112 hand-
set with another GAP base, you have to register
it manually.
Automatic registration:
Handset Classic S112 to
Base Classic S112
Important: the handset must not already be
registered to a base station.
Place the handset in the base with its display
facing forward. The automatic registration
takes about one minute. Throughout this
period of time, the display shows Registering
and the name of the base, e.g. Base 1, blinks.
The handset will automatically be assigned the
lowest unassigned internal number (1–4).
When a successful registration is complete, the
following is displayed, e.g. INT 1. If the internal
numbers 1–4 are already assigned (four hand-
sets are registered with one base), the number
4 is overwritten, if this handset is in idle status.

Notes:
– The battery wires must be situated so that the
battery cover does not catch the wires when it is
closed. The wires can otherwise be damaged
when closing the cover.
– Only insert the recommended rechargeable
battery pack, i.e. never use a normal battery
pack as this could damage your health and cause
injury.
– Never use non-Siemens battery chargers as this
could damage the battery pack.
– The handset should only be placed in a base or
charging cradle that is intended for it.

Appendix
Care
Wipe the handset with a damp cloth or an
antistatic cloth. Never use a dry cloth! This can
cause static!
Contact with liquid
If the handset has come into contact with
liquid:
1. Switch off the handset and remove the
battery pack immediately.
2. Allow the liquid to drain from the handset.
3. Pat all parts dry, then place the handset
with the battery compartment open and the
keypad facing down in a dry, warm place for
at least 72 hours (not in a microwave, oven
etc.).
4. Do not switch on the handset again until
it is completely dry.
When it has fully dried out, you will normally be
able to use it again.
Troubleshooting
Not every problem has to be a defect in your
telephone. In some cases, simply disconnecting
the power supply to the base station and plug-
ging it in again or removing the battery from
the handset and installing it again is enough.
The following notes should help with your
specific problem.
Important: Problems or faults can only be
corrected, in most cases, if you bring in the
complete unit (base station, handset and
connecting cables) to the place of purchase.
* Depending on the network provider
!
