INTRODUCTION
Inspiring the joy of listening
Technical Audio Devices Laboratories, Inc. (TADL) grew from the spirit to discover technologies to perfectly recreate the pure
sound of live performances with uncompromising craftsmanship. We have inherited our philosophy from Bart Locanthi—
recognized across the globe as the ultimate sound technologist—who believed that genuine technology is true to the basics
and that genuine technology places greater importance on sound quality than on technology for its own sake.
At TADL, we are honing our technology to create equipment that reproduces musical sounds that evoke both the energy and
impact of live music.
Features
The TAD-C2000 is a preamplifier featuring the newest in technology for a new age, complete with three digital
inputs and four analog inputs.
High-fidelity DAC with Ultra-high-Precision Crystal Generator (UPCG)1.
The master clock features an UPCG*1 with ultra-high C/N*2 ratio originally developed for the TAD-D600. The D/A converter
uses dual Burr-Brown PCM1794A digital-audio converters in a parallel balanced output, thereby producing both high fidelity
and high S/N ratio. A sampling rate converter is also featured; by reclocking with the ultra-high C/N master clock UPCG, the
D/A converter supports sampling frequencies from 32 kHz to 192 kHz, providing the ultimate in reproduction of input PCM
signals.
*1 Ultra-high-Precision Crystal Generator
*2 Carrier to Noise ratio
Asynchronous USB audio data transmission2.
Of the three digital inputs, one is designed for USB input (USB 2.0 high-speed) that supports USB Audio Class 2.0 for USB
audio data transmission. This makes it possible to use widely distributed music player software to listen to high-fidelity audio
sources with data rates up to 192 kHz*3.
This unit features an asynchronous USB audio data transmission engine uniquely developed by Pioneer to control the
transmission of input audio data. By reading the incoming data with the internal high-precision clock, a very high level of
audio quality is achieved.
*3 Supported USB sampling rates differ depending on the operating system of your computer.
The Quest for Symmetry: Duallogic-Circuit Technology3.
In order to most accurately transmit audio signals, it is critical that the circuitry be complete symmetrical in relation to the
polarity of the music signal. The unit’s analog circuitry utilizes full-balanced amplifying from input to output, while the L/
R audio circuits feature a symmetric layout of dual circuit board units, in these and other ways seeking for the utmost in
symmetry of circuit layout and L/R identity.
Damping Technology4.
Machined from an enormous block of solid aluminum, the silver upper case acts as the chassis that houses the electronic
parts determining sound quality. The massive, seamless chassis not only strongly resists external vibrations, but its
electrically stable ground potential facilitates achieving even greater stability in sound quality. Finally, the three-point
suspension insulators utilize gray cast iron with its excellent damping characteristics, and each insulator contacts the lower
case with a point-contact structure that further contributes to stable sound reproduction.
Custom electronic parts contribute to high-precision operation and high sound quality5.
The shaft bearings found in the INPUT SELECTOR and VOLUME dial feature a newly developed structure utilizing high-
precision bearings, entirely eliminating any sense of looseness, and enabling high-precision operation. The high-precision
volume circuitry enlists a newly developed high-precision resistance-ladder control, delivering low distortion (0.0005% or less
in the volume circuitry), and high-precision volume control (1/0.5 step select). Further, by designing the INPUT SELECTOR
and VOLUME dial as independent right-left controls, stable auditory lateralization and ambience is realized, while the full-
balanced volume circuitry preserves signal symmetry at any volume setting, making possible vibrant music reproduction
even at low sound volumes.

Incorrect operations are often mistaken for trouble and malfunctions. If you think that there is something wrong with this
component, check the points below. Sometimes the trouble may lie in another component. Investigate the other components
and electrical appliances being used. If the trouble cannot be rectified even after exercising the checks listed below, ask your
dealer.
Symptom Possible cause Remedy
No sound even when
source is selected. The input connectors are improperly connected.•The MUTE function is enabled (MUTING indicator•is flashing).
Sound volume is set too low.•
Check connections.•Press the MUTE button on the main unit or the•remote control to disable the MUTE function.
Adjust the sound volume properly.•
Noise is heard even when
no input is selected. Noise is present in the power source itself.•Confirm that no other digital appliance is•connected to the same power outlet.
No sound from digital
input. Digital connections are not correct.•If a CD player or other component with digital•output level setting function is connected, the
output level setting is too low.
The playback software’s digital format is not•supported.
Check digital connections.•Adjust the CD player or other component’s digital•output setting.
If the output component is set to a non-PCM mode•(Dolby Digital, DTS, etc.), change the setting to
PCM.
No sound from USB
input. Another component is selected by computer•settings. The computer is set to MUTE.
Connections are incorrect. The computer is not•detecting this unit (TAD-USB1).
The file type, OS, or software is not supported.•
Check the computer’s sound settings.•Check connections. Try pressing the remote•control’s RESET button to make the computer
detect this unit.
Check supported operating systems, software, and•file sampling frequencies (page 17).
The USB input’s sampling
frequency is always the
same.
Depending on the computer’s settings, the•sampling frequency may remain the same, even
though the sampling frequency of played files is
different.
Check computer settings.•
Computer sounds other
than music are audible
from USB inputs.
Depending on computer settings, sounds such as•boot beeps and error beeps may be played from
this unit.
Check computer settings.•
When playing non-USB
sources, the computer’s
software cannot be
played.
With non-USB sources, this unit’s USB circuit•power is set to OFF, so the computer does not
detect it.
Select USB input source.•
When the remote
control’s RESET button
is pressed, sound is
interrupted, or the
playback software
program stops.
When the RESET button is pressed,•communication between this unit and the
computer is temporarily interrupted, with the
result that the computer’s software playback will
also be interrupted or stop.
Do not press the RESET button during playback.•
Power doesn’t turn off. The 12 V TRIGGER input connector is receiving an•H-level signal. Shut off the signal at the component generating•the 12 V TRIGGER signal.
Power turns off by itself. If the auto power down function is set to ON, the•unit will automatically switch to Standby after
three hours of inactivity.
Set auto power down function to OFF (page 16).•
Can’t see display. The display detection area is 45° to right and left.•The display is set to OFF.•Look at the display directly from the front.•Press the DISP button to cancel display OFF.•
Can’t be remote
controlled. The remote control’s batteries are depleted.•Distance is too far. Angle to the signal sensor is
too extreme. An object is interrupting the signal
path. A strong fluorescent or other light is directed
toward the signal sensor.
Try replacing the batteries in the remote control.•Be sure to operate within 7 m and a 30° angle of
the remote sensor on the front panel. Check that
there are no obstacles between the receiver and
the remote control. Make sure that there is no
fluorescent or other strong light shining on to the
remote sensor.
