FCC Notice
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device,
pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable
protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment
generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy, and, if not installed and used in

These products have been designed and manufactured according to IEC 825-1 on the
Safety of Laser products. This product comes under “Class 1 Laser Products.” A Laser
Caution Marking is attached on the top of the internal drive model: “Caution: Invisible
laser radiation when open. Avoid direct exposure to beam.”

CAUTION: Your CD-R/W drive
holds sensitive, high-precision optics.
Dropping and/or shaking the CD-R/W

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

1. Insert the program installation CD into your computer's original
disc drive and follow the on-screen prompt.
2. Attach the included dongle to the back of your veloCD until it
clicks or is secure.
3.Locate your IEEE 1394/FireWire port (with the IEEE 1394/FireWire
symbol) on the back of your Mac or PC.

4.Connect the longer 6 pin end of the IEEE 1394/FireWire cable into the rear panel
FireWire port on your Mac or PC.
5.Connect the smaller 4 pin end of the IEEE 1394/FireWire cable to the dongle
attached to the back of your veloCD drive.
6.Connect the power cord to the back of your veloCD drive.
7.Connect the plug to a wall outlet or power strip.
8.Power on your Mac or PC. Now power on your veloCD drive.
9. Open the CD tray by pressing the EJECT button on the front of your veloCD drive.
NOTE: veloCD’s EJECT button is only
enabled when the drive is powered on. Use
the emergency ejector pin on the underside
of the drive to open the door when power is
not available. The eject hole is located
near the front right foot pad.

MAC
1. Make sure that both sides of the cable are firmly connected and that the
unit’s power is turned on.
2. Check to see if you have the correct extensions installed. These include FireWire
Enabler, FireWire Support 2.5 or later, Toast FireWire Support and Toast CD
Reader. Use the Extension Manager to enable the correct extensions.
3. Make sure you are using the Firewire cable supplied with your veloCD drive.
1. Make sure that both sides of the cable are firmly connected and that the unit’s
power is turned ON. Verify that the software sees the drive. If there are still
problems, restart the computer.
2. Make sure that there are no more than 63 devices plugged in and no more than
16 hops between any two devices.
3. Confirm that Apple FireWire 2.5 or later is installed. If not, then download
Apple FireWire 2.5 or later from www.apple.com.
4. Make sure that the Toast FireWire extension is installed and enabled. Use the
Extension Manager to verify.
1. Open the Toast program that came with your veloCD drive. In the EDIT menu,
click PREFERENCES and make sure that "Prefer Disc-At-Once" is checked and
that the RAM Cache is set to 64MB.
NOTE: To record at your drive’s maximum speed, you must use media
rated for that speed.
PC
Ensure that DMA is enabled (Windows 95B/98/98SE/ME)
1. In Windows, click the START button, then SETTINGS, then CONTROL PANEL.
2. Double click SYSTEM in the Control Panel folder, then select the DEVICE MANAGER
tab. You will see a list of devices in your system.
3. Click the CD-ROM icon, and choose your veloCD drive's PROPERTIES.
You will see the drive properties for the veloCD ReWriter.
4. Ensure that the DMA box is checked ON under the Settings tab.
5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 for other devices that you will be recording from and
recording to such as your hard drive and/or a second CD-ROM or CD-Rewriter.
6. Reboot your computer for the change to take effect.

Ensure that DMA is enabled (Windows 2000)
1. Click the START button on the Windows taskbar.
2. Select SETTINGS and then CONTROL PANEL from the menu.
3. Double Click the SYSTEM icon in the Windows CONTROL PANEL.
4. Select the HARDWARE tab then click on the DEVICE MANAGER button.
5. Click on the (+) sign beside IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS.
6. Right click on the appropriate IDE channel (Primary or Secondary), right click
PROPERTIES and select the ADVANCED SETTINGS tab.
7. Set the "Transfer Mode" to "DMA if available". Device 0 is the MASTER device
on the IDE channel and Device 1 is the SLAVE.
8. Click OK to accept the change and then reboot the computer for the
change to take effect.
Ensure that DMA is enabled (Windows NT)
1. Check in your CMOS and/or BIOS to make sure that DMA is enabled.
NOTE: To record at your drive’s maximum speed, you must use media
rated for that speed.
MAC/PC
1. Check to see if there is enough space left on the disc including the lead in and
lead out for each session.
1. A buffer underrun may have occurred. Either select a slower speed or select
using Buffer Underrun Protection in your software.
2. Disable all other functions and applications that could interrupt the
stream of information.
3. Make sure that the media does not have any fingerprints, dirt or scratches
on the surface.
4. Check to see if the CD-RW already has data written on it.
Erase or format the CD-RW.
1. To get sound from the headphone jack located on the side of your veloCD
drive, you must play back your audio disc in analog mode. Check that the input
settings in your audio software are enabled to allow analog playback.
1. See if you can read the disc in another CD-ROM player.
Directory information could be corrupt.
2. Make sure that you closed or finalized the session.

1. Shutdown the computer and power off the drive, then power on the drive
and use the eject button.
2. If everything failed, use the emergency eject hole.
Use the supplied emergency ejector pin by pushing it in the emergency hole
in a steady manner until the tray is released.
3. veloCD’s EJECT button is only enabled when the drive is powered on.
Use the emergency ejector pin on the underside of the drive to open the door
when power is not available. The eject hole is located near the front right foot pad.
1. Make sure the drive is properly connected to a "live" AC outlet using the
supplied power cable or try reconnecting the cable.
1. Make sure the FireWire/IEEE 1394 interface card is installed properly.
Check the manual that came with the card for details.
1. Make sure the FireWire cable is fully connected at both ends.
2. Check if the drive is properly connected to the computer using a
working FireWire cable.
1. Make sure the disc is supported by the drive.
2. Is the disc surface dirty? Clean the disc surface using a lint-free cloth.
Wipe from the center of the disc to the edge.
3. Check if the drive accepts other discs.
4. Make sure the LED lights properly when the disc is loading.
1. Disconnect the FireWire cable from your drive, leaving the power cable connected.
Remove the disc, reconnect the FireWire cable and try loading the disc again.
1. If your computer is not able to use the supplied 4 pin to 6 pin FireWire cable,
and you need a 4 pin to 4 pin FireWire cable, please contact TDK Technical
Service at 1-800-835-8326.
Can’t eject the CD.
The drive does not power up.
The computer does not start up.
The veloCD drive is not recognized
by the operating system.
Can’t load the disc.
The drive fails to read the disc.
The FireWire/IEEE 1394 cable
doesn't fit into my computer’s
FireWire port.

TDK VELOCD WARRANTY
One Year Limited Warranty for Hardware
Ninety Day Limited Warranty for TDK Software
TDK Electronics Corporation ("TDK") warrants to the end-user customer that this data storage product
will be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from date of
purchase. If TDK receives notice of any such defects during the warranty period, TDK will, at its option,
either repair or replace the Product that it finds to be defective at no charge (except for shipping and
insurance). Repair of defective Product may be with either new or rebuilt replacement parts that will
be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period. Any exchanged parts under this
warranty will become the property of TDK. Replacement Product may be either new or reconditioned.
If the Product is discontinued and no longer available, then it may be replaced with Product
determined by TDK to be of similar value and performance.
TDK does not warrant that the operation of the Product will be uninterrupted or error free. This Limited
Warranty does not apply to defects resulting from (1) acts of God, accident, misuse, abuse, negligence,
abnormal, or unusually heavy use; (2) improper installation, operation, testing or maintenance;
(3) power failure or connection to improper voltage supply; or (4) attempted repair by any party other
than TDK. This Limited Warranty does not apply when the malfunction results from the use of the
Product in conjunction with other products, software or accessories, or where it is determined by TDK
that there is no fault with the Product itself. This Limited Warranty is invalid if the factory-applied
serial number has been altered or removed from the Product.
This Limited Warranty extends only to the original end-user customer and is not transferable to any
subsequent purchaser. This Limited Warranty is valid only within the United States. For areas outside
the United States, contact the authorized dealer from whom you purchased the Product to determine
what warranty, if any, applies.
In order to obtain warranty service, you must deliver the Product to TDK freight prepaid, in either its original
package or packaging providing a degree of protection equivalent to that of the original packaging,
along with proof of purchase. (Please contact TDK at the number listed below for further information.)
TDK MAKES NO OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE
WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. TO THE EXTENT THAT
ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES APPLY, DESPITE THEIR EXCLUSION UNDER THIS LIMITED WARRANTY, SUCH
WARRANTIES SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE DURATION OF THE EXPRESS WARRANTIES PROVIDED HEREUNDER.
THE REMEDIES PROVIDED UNDER THIS LIMITED WARRANTY ARE THE SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE REMEDIES.
TDK’S LIABILITY UNDER ANY LEGAL THEORY FOR ANY LOSS OR DAMAGE IN ANY WAY RELATED TO THE PRODUCT
SHALL IN NO EVENT EXCEED THE PURCHASE PRICE OF THE PRODUCT. IN NO EVENT SHALL TDK BE LIABLE FOR
ANY INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES RESULTING FROM THE USE OF THE PRODUCT.
Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts or any exclusion or limitation
of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations or exclusions may not apply to you.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights which vary from state to state.
