Before use
Precautions for use
oDo not strike the enclosure (cabinet) or front speaker grill with hard objects. Doing so could
cause scratching or damage the speaker units.
oThis product has been designed to minimize the effect of magnetism, but you should not put
magnetic recording media (including memory cards, tapes and discs) or other items that are
easily affected by magnetic fields on top of it. Doing so could result in data loss or damage.
oSet the amplifier input level in an appropriate range when listening. Excessive input could dam-
age the speaker units. Moreover, even if the input level is less than the maximum, signals with
frequent clipping, for example, will have a negative impact on the speaker units. Please be care-
ful to prevent distortion of the audio, including the signal from the amplifier.
Cleaning
Use a soft cloth that has been dampened with a small amount of diluted neutral cleanser to wipe
away dirt on the panel surfaces.
oUse a clothing brush or a similar tool to remove dust that sticks to the top surface grill.
oDo not wipe the surface with chemical cleaning cloths, thinner or similar materials. Doing so
could damage the surface.
VFor your safety, unplug the power cord from the outlet before cleaning.

VPrecautions for installation
oDo not install in a location that becomes hot, including places exposed to direct sunlight or near
heating equipment. Furthermore, do not place it on top of an amplifier or other equipment that
generates heat in excess of this unit's operating temperature range. Doing so might result in dis-
coloration, deformation or malfunction.
oThere are speakers in the top and bottom of the bass unit. Be careful not to block them.
oDo not install in a location that becomes humid, including near humidifiers. Moreover, do not
install in a location that is exposed to soot. Doing so could cause damage.
oDo not install in an unstable location, such as on an unsteady stand, a slope or in a place
exposed to vibrations. It could fall down or fall over, causing injury.
oThis product has been designed to minimize magnetic effects, but installation near a CRT tele-
vision might cause color inconsistencies to appear on its screen. If this should occur, move the
speakers and the television far enough apart so that the inconsistencies disappear. LCD televi-
sions and plasma televisions are not affected by magnetism.
oDo not place obstructions between the speaker system and the listening position. Obstructions
block the direct sound, which can affect the sound quality.
oIdeally, no items that reflect sound or resonate should be near the system. For example, glass
doors sometimes resonate. To prevent this, fix them securely or use thick curtains or similar
materials to absorb sound.
oIn addition, parallel walls make it easy for standing waves to occur, so place furniture to disrupt
parallel surfaces and use thick curtains or similar materials to absorb sound.

Installation
Satellite speaker placement
In order to prevent vibration and slipping, attach the
included anti-slipping pads to four places on the bottom
of each speaker.
Subwoofer placement
The subwoofer in this system uses an HVT (Horizontal-
Vertical-Transforming) structure to minimize vibration,
making it possible to place it on the top of a table, for
example.
In order to prevent the sound from being blocked, leave
an open gap of at least 1 cm (1/2") above and below the
speaker.
Vertical placement of subwoofer
This subwoofer should ordinarily be placed horizontally,
but vertical placement is also possible.
When placing the subwoofer vertically, remove its feet
and attach the included cover pads. When installing the
subwoofer vertically, attach the included anti-slipping
pads to it in four places.
In order to prevent the sound from being blocked, leave
open gaps of at least 1 cm (1/2") on each speaker side.
Speaker placement
For stereo playback, the left and right speakers should be
placed so that they form an equilateral or isosceles trian-
gle with the listener at the top corner.

Connections (satellite speakers)
Speaker cables
oUse the included speaker cables or commercially
available cables designed for speakers.
oWe recommend using the shortest speaker cables
possible.
oWe recommend using left and right speaker cables of
the same length.
VCAUTION
Before connecting
Always turn the amplifier's power OFF before connect-
ing speakers.
After connecting
Turn the volume down completely before turning the
amplifier's power ON to prevent sudden loud noises.
Reconfirm that the speaker terminals have been con-
nected correctly and that cables are not contacting
other terminals.
Connecting the cables
Bare/sleeved wire
Insert the core wire through the hole in the terminal
completely and tighten the cap firmly.
Spade lugs
Place the spade around the terminal and tighten the cap
firmly.
oWhen using spade lugs to connect the speakers,
they should have an inside diameter of at least 8 mm
(3/8").
Connecting with an amplifier
Use speaker cables to securely connect the positive (+)
terminals on the amplifier with the positive (+) terminals
on the speakers, and the negative (−) amplifier terminals
with the negative (−) speaker terminals.

VComplete all connections before turning the power on.
oCarefully read the manuals of the devices that you are connecting and follow their
instructions when making connections.
oDo not bundle connecting cables with power cords. Doing so could cause noise.
oConnect all plugs completely.
Connections (subwoofer)
A Subwoofer input jack (INPUT)
Use this jack to input a mono audio signal. Connect it to the amplifier subwoofer output jack.
Use the included RCA audio cable or a commercially-available one for the connection.
B Power input connector (DC IN 16V)
After completing all other connections, connect the included AC adapter (PS-M1628) to this
connector, and connect the AC adapter power cord to the adapter.
Next, plug the AC adapter power cord into a power outlet.
oUnplug the cord from the outlet when not using the system for a long time.
VAlways use the included AC adapter (PS-M1628) and AC adapter power cord. Never
use any other AC adapter or power cord.

Connections (Checking the phase)
Satellite speakers
If the polarities (+/−) of the left and right speakers do not match, they will be out of phase and the
sound of stereo playback will not be normal.
To check the phase, listen to a recording that has strong bass frequencies played through the left
and right speakers in mono and compare.
If the signals are in phase, the output of low frequencies will be strong, and the stereo image will
be centered between the left and right speakers. If the signals are out of phase, the low frequencies
will be weak and the stereo image will be unclear. In this case, check the polarities (+/−) of the con-
nections between the speakers and the amplifier.
The phase can be corrected by reversing the polarity for one speaker. Speaker cables are connected
to the input terminals on the backs of the speakers. The red terminal is positive (+) and the black
terminal is negative (−). Check these carefully when making connections.

1 Press the STANDBY/ON button to turn the
unit on.
oTurn the amp on last to prevent the sudden out-
put of loud noise.
2 Operate the playback device.
Refer to its operation manual.
3 Adjust the volume.
Use the amp to adjust the volume of the satellite
speakers.
Use the VOLUME knob on the subwoofer to balance
its level with the satellite speakers.
4 Adjust the phase.
Use the PHASE switch to control the phase of the
low-frequency signal output from the subwoofer.
Sometimes the placement of the subwoofer and
satellite speakers causes the phase to differ, making
the low frequencies uneven. Try playback with this
switch set to both NORMAL and REVERSE and use
the setting that sounds more natural.
Automatic power saving function
This product is compliant with the European ErP direc-
tive for standby power.
In order to comply with this directive, if 25 minutes
elapse without any audio input to the subwoofer, it will
automatically enter standby and the power switch indi-
cator will become unlit.
When audio is input to the subwoofer again, it will end
standby and the power switch indicator will light.

If you experience a problem with this unit, please take a moment to review the following informa-
tion before requesting service. If this unit still does not operate correctly, contact the retailer where
you purchased the unit.

Confirm that the power cord is securely connected
to the power supply and not loose. If the power
source is a switched outlet, make sure it is turned on.
Confirm that power is being supplied to the outlet to
which the power cord is connected by, for example,
connecting another device to it. If 25 minutes elapse
without any audio input to the subwoofer, it will
automatically enter standby and the power switch
indicator will become unlit.

designated service providers, the warranty will be invalidated immediately even if the

VPrécautions d'installation

oNe l'installez pas en position instable, comme sur un support bancal, en pente ou dans un

oCe produit a été conçu pour minimiser les effets magnétiques, mais son installation à proximité
d'un téléviseur à tube cathodique peut provoquer l'apparition de décalages de couleur sur son
écran. Si cela devait se produire, éloignez suffisamment les enceintes du téléviseur pour que les
décalages disparaissent. Les téléviseurs LCD et à plasma ne sont pas affectés par le magnétisme.
oNe placez pas d'obstacles entre les enceintes et la position d'écoute. Les obstacles bloquent le
son direct, ce qui peut affecter la qualité du son.
oIdéalement, aucun objet réfléchissant le son ou résonnant ne devrait se trouver près du système.
Par exemple, les portes vitrées résonnent parfois. Pour éviter cela, fixez-les solidement ou utilisez
d'épais rideaux ou des matériaux similaires pour absorber le son.
oEn outre, des murs parallèles facilitent l'apparition d'ondes stationnaires, donc placez des

Installation
Placement des enceintes satellites
Pour éviter les vibrations et le glissement, fixez les patins
anti-dérapants à quatre endroits sous chaque enceinte.
Placement du caisson de graves
Le caisson de graves de ce système utilise une structure
HVT (Horizontale-Verticale-Transformable) pour mini-
miser les vibrations, ce qui permet de le placer sur une
table, par exemple.
Afin d'éviter que le son ne soit bloqué, laissez un espace
libre d'au moins 1cm au-dessus et au-dessous de
l'enceinte.
Orientation verticale du caisson de graves
Ce caisson de graves doit normalement être placé
horizontalement, mais un positionnement vertical est
également possible.
Si vous placez le caisson de graves verticalement, retirez
ses pieds et fixez les patins cache-pieds fournis. Si vous
installez le caisson de graves verticalement, fixez-lui les
patins anti-dérapants fournis à quatre endroits.
