15) Lightning —For added protection for this product during a
lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long
periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the
antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the product
due to lightning and power-line surges.
16) Power Lines —An outside antenna system should not be
located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light
or power circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines or circuits.
When installing an outside antenna system, extreme care should be
taken to keep from touching such power lines or circuits as contact
with them might be fatal.
17) Overloading —Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or
integral convenience receptacles as this can result in risk of fire or
electric shock.
18) Object and Liquid Entry —Never push objects of any kind into
this product through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage
points or short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock.
Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.
19) Servicing —Do not attempt to service this product yourself as
opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage
or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
20) Damage Requiring Service —Unplug this product from the
wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under
the following conditions:
a) when the power-supply cord or plug is damaged.
b) if liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the product.
c) if the product has been exposed to rain or water.
d) if the product does not operate normally by following the
operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by

10) Ventilation —Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for
ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the product and to
protect it from overheating, and these openings must not be blocked
or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the
product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This product
should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase or
rack unless proper ventilation is provided or the manufacturer’s
instructions have been adhered to.
11) Power Sources —This product should be operated only from
the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are
not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your
product dealer or local power company. For products intended to
operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the operating
instructions.
12) Grounding or Polarization —This product may be equipped
with a polarized alternating-current line plug (a plug having one
blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet
only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the
plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still
fail to fit, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do
not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug.
13) Power-Cord Protection —Power-supply cords should be
routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items
placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords at
plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from
the product.
14) Outdoor Antenna Grounding —If an outside antenna or
cable system is connected to the product, be sure the antenna or
cable system is grounded so as to provide some protection against
voltage surges and built-up static charges. Article 810 of the
National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides information with
regard to proper grounding of the mast and supporting structure,
grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of
grounding conductors, location of antenna-discharge unit,
connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the
grounding electrode.

PRECAUTIONS
TO THE USER
This equipment has been tested and found to
comply with the limits for a Class B digital device,
pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits
are designed to provide reasonable protection
against interference in a residential area. This
device generates and uses radio frequency energy
and if not installed and used in accordance with
the instructions, it may cause interference to
radio or TV reception. If this unit does cause
interference with TV or radio reception you can try
to correct the interference by one or more of the
following measures:
a) Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
b) Increase the separation between the
equipment and the receiver.
c) Plug the equipment into a different outlet so
that it is not on the same circuit as the
receiver.
If necessary, consult the dealer or an experienced
radio/TV technician for additional suggestions.

VOLTAGE CONVERSION
Be sure to remove the power cord from the AC
outlet before repositioning the voltage converter
switches.
1. Locate the voltage selector on the rear panel.
2. Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, set to the
appropriate 120 V or 230 V position according
to your area.

The equipment draws nominal non-operating
power from the AC outlet with its POWER switch
in the STANDBY position.

The wires in the mains lead on this product are

As these colours may not correspond with the
coloured markings identifying the terminals in your
plug proceed as follows:
The wire which is coloured BLUE must be connected
to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or
coloured BLACK.
The wire which is coloured BROWN must be
connected to the terminal which is marked with the
letter L or coloured RED.
When replacing the fuse only a correctly rated
approved type should be used and be sure to re-fit
the fuse cover.

Models for Europe are designed for the connection of a
75-ohm unbalanced type outdoor FM antenna using the
optional matching transformer, as shown.
Generally, a 3-element antenna will be sufficient; if you
live in an area where the FM signals are particularly
weak, it may be necessary to use one with 5 or more
elements.
Connect the coaxial cable of the antenna to the
matching transformer as shown. After completing
connection, plug the transformer into the "FM 75Ω"
socket.

In an area with strong FM signals, the "T"-type FM
antenna provided is sufficient. Extend this into a "T"
shape and connect the two wires at the base of the T to
the antenna terminals, as shown. For details of how to
connect the antenna wires to the terminals, see the
illustration.
Extend the top of the T and fix with thumb tacks, or the
like, to a wall or window frame for the best possible
reception.

In an area where FM signals are weak, it will be
necessary to use a 75-ohm unbalanced-type outdoor
FM antenna. Generally, a 3-element antenna will be
sufficient; if you live in an area where the FM signals
are particularly weak, it may be necessary to use one
with 5 or more elements.
75-ohm antenna use a coaxial cable and should be
connected as follows: first strip the covering of the
cable, then twist the wire shielding so the inner core
and shielding can be connected as shown.

Matching Transformer
(optional)
If you live reasonably close to a transmitter and want to
use the provided lead-type FM antenna, you will have
to connect it direct to the "FM 75Ω" socket.
Fit the metal sleeve of the lead-type antenna over the
core (center) conductor of the "FM 75Ω" socket, extend
the lead and fix it to a window frame or wall with
thumbtacks, or the like, where reception is best.

How to connect a coaxial cable to the matching
transformer
1Strip the cable and dress it as shown.
2Press both side tabs outward to remove the
cover.
3Wrap the core conductor around the central
metal fixture as shown. Crimp the jagged
metal fixtures so they hold the braided portion
using pliers, etc. Put the cover back in place.

AM Indoor Loop Antenna
A high-performance AM loop antenna provided with the
T-R460 is sufficient for good reception in most areas.
Connect the loop antenna's wires to the AM antenna
terminals as shown. To connect antenna wires to the
terminals, loosen the terminal screw, place the lug
under the terminal then tighten the screw firmly.
Place the antenna on a shelf, for example, or hang it on
a window frame, etc., in the direction which gives the
best reception, as far away as possible from the entire
system, speaker cords and the power cord, to prevent
unwanted noise.
AM Outdoor Antenna
If the AM loop antenna provided does not deliver
sufficient reception (because you are too far from the
transmitter or in a concrete building, etc.), it may be
necessary to use an outdoor AM antenna. Use an
insulated wire more than 15 ft (5 m) long, strip one end,
and connect this to the terminal as shown. The antenna
wire should be strung outdoors or indoors near a
window. For better reception, connect the GND terminal
to a reliable ground.
Note: Even when using an outdoor AM antenna, do not
disconnect the AM loop antenna.

BEFORE USE
●Choose the installation location of your unit
carefully. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight or close
to a source of heat. Also avoid locations subject to
vibrations and excessive dust, heat, cold or
moisture. Keep away from such sources that hum,
such as transformers or motors.
●Do not open the cabinet as this might result in
damage to the circuitry or electrical shock. If a
foreign object should get into the set, contact your
dealer.
●When removing the power plug from the wall outlet,
always pull directly on the plug, never yank the cord.
●Do not attempt to clean the unit with chemical
solvents as this might damage the finish. Use a
clean, dry cloth.
●Keep this manual in a safe place for future reference.
Connection to a Stereo Amplifier
LINE OUT Terminals
Connect the LINE OUT terminals to the TUNER
terminals of the stereo amplifier using RCA pin plug
cords.
REMOTE CONTROL Terminals
Connect the REMOTE CONTROL terminal A of the Tuner
to the REMOTE CONTROL terminal A of the TEAC
stereo amplifier (A-R600) using RCA pin plug cord.
Remote-controlled Operation
●The remote control unit is not provided with the
tuner as an accessory.
●By using the "UR" remote control unit provided with
the TEAC amplifier (A-R600), the tuner can be
operated.
Power Cord
Be sure to connect the power cord to an AC outlet
which supplies the correct voltage, as set by the voltage
selector.

the RDS indicator lights. (EUR models only)
●FILE: Alphabets, symbols, and numbers will be
displayed when you write a broadcasting name
with the File button (up to 4 letters).
●Timer mode: When the DAILY function is
programmed, the DAILY ON/OFF times will be
shown in the display.
£TUNED Indicator
This indicator lights when correctly tuned to a
broadcast.
¢STEREO Indicator
This indicator will light up when FM stereo
broadcasting is received.
∞TIMER Indicator
§Frequency Mode, TIME Indicator
●The frequencies of FM, AM (MW) will be
displayed.
●Hour, Minute: When you program current time,
DAILY, the times of On/Off, and the hour and
minute of CT among RDS will be displayed.

The channel number selected by use of the
PRESET CALL button will be shown in the display.

The reception status of the broadcasting.

5PRESET CALL (preset channel call) Buttons
1) Broadcast Memory Function: Each time you press
the PRESET CALL button briefly (for 0.5 second or
less), you can listen to broadcasts in a
programmed sequence. This function is used to
memorize FM or AM (MW) broadcasting, or to
select memorized broadcasts.
6TUNING Buttons (o/O)
●Press the UP or DOWN TUNING button (within 0.5
to 2 seconds). The next station broadcasting at a
frequency higher or lower than that of the current
station is automatically detected and tuned in.
●By pressing and holding the TUNING button for
longer than 2 seconds, it will continue to control
(three times faster than normal speed).
7RDS MODE Button (EUR models only)
1) The button works only when you receive FM
broadcasting stations, and is used to set the RDS
mode.
2) Press the button longer than 1 second, and PTY
search will become operable.
8DISPLAY Button (General Export models only)

qDIMMER Button
Press this button, and the display will dim. Press the
button once more, and the original brightness of the
display will resume.

Used to select stereo or mono when listening to FM
broadcasts.
tMEMORY Button
●MANUAL: To preset FM or AM (MW) in the
system, press briefly (0.5 second or less).
●AUTO: When you press the button for long (more
than 0.5 second), FM or AM (MW) broadcasting
will automatically be preset in the system.
yBAND Selector Button
Press the button to switch between FM and AM
(MW) bands.

OPERATIONS
You can adjust the current time even if the system
power is off.
Time adjustment (for example: 10:45)
1. Press the TIME ADJUST button. (Clock section will
be shown on the display.)
2. Set hour (10) by pressing the TUNING buttons.
3. Press the NEXT button. (Minutes signal blinks on the
display.)
4. Set minute (45) by pressing the TUNING buttons.
●Set the day of month and the month by repeating
steps 3 and 4.
If you disconnect the AC plug, the current time is
reset to 0:00.
●If you want to adjust only "hour" and "minute",
adjust "hour" and "minute" and then press the TIME
ADJUST button.
5. Pressing the TIME ADJUST button or NEXT button
completes the adjustment.
<Preparation>
Press the BAND button to select the broadcast band.
HOW TO ADJUST CURRENT TIME HOW TO PRESET BROADCASTS
1. TUNING
Select the broadcast frequency you want to
memorize by pressing the TUNING button.
2. PRESET CALL
Press the MEMORY button briefly (for 0.5 second or
less).
Select the channel you want by pressing the PRESET
CALL (channel) button while the "MEMORY"
indicator is blinking.
3. MEMORY
Press the MEMORY button to memorize the
broadcast.
●You can preset up to 30 FM and 30 AM (MW)
channels by repeating steps from 1 to 3.
Manual Memory Presetting
1. MEMORY
Press the MEMORY button for long (for more than
0.5 second).
Whenever the next highest broadcast frequency is
selected, the selected broadcast is preset
automatically.
2. PRESET CALL
Check the preset broadcast by pressing the PRESET
CALL button.
Notes:
●In FM Automatic Memory Presetting, frequency is
automatically memorized twice. The setting which
has better reception will be preset first.
●If the new broadcast channel is preset to a channel,
the channel which had been preset to that position
earlier will be automatically erased.
●It is impossible to preset automatically in areas far
away from the broadcast station or in mountain areas
where received signals are weak.

If only a frequency is preset, fill in the station name
using manual or automatic memory presetting.
(Example) FM 98.80 MHz 3ch, Station name: BBC 1
1. Press the BAND button.
Select the FM band.
2. TUNING
Set 98.80 MHz by pressing the TUNING button.
3. FILE
Press the FILE button.
"---" or the station name preset last will be shown on
the display. Preset the station name, "BBC 1".
(1) B ∑B ---: after setting 'B' by pressing the
TUNING button when the first signal blinks, press
the NEXT button.
(2) Preset "B, B, C, 1" as in step (1) above.
4. MEMORY
Press the MEMORY button briefly (0.5 second or
less).
(The "MEMORY" indicator blinks.)
5. PRESET CALL
After setting "03" by pressing the PRESET CALL
button, press the MEMORY button briefly once more.
●BBC1 FM 98.80 MHz 03 has been just preset.
Notes:
●File content: A, B, C...X, Y, Z (alphabet)
0, 1, ... 8, 9 (number), blank
●Current time will not be displayed if the station name
has already been preset.
Sleep programming is used to preset the time to turn
off system power while listening to music.
1. Press the SLEEP button.
"SLEEP 90" is shown on the front display.
2. Each press of the button changes the time indication
by 10 minutes.
∑SLEEP 90 ∑SLEEP 80 ∑... ∑ SLEEP 10 ∑ SLEEP ...
(Released condition)
If you press the TUNING button after pressing the
SLEEP button, you can adjust the time by one minute at
a time.
3. Five seconds after presetting the sleep time, the
system will return to the previous status and
thereafter begin sleep timing.
Notes:
●If you want to know the time remaining until the
sleep time, press the SLEEP button once.
●To allow the sleep function to work properly, you
need to connect the remote control terminal of the
tuner to the corresponding remote control terminal of
the amplifier (A-R600).

The ON and/or OFF time can be preset for daily use.
Before presetting DAILY, make sure the power is off.
HOW TO PRESET DAILY
1. Press the DAILY button. ("DAILY ON --:--" will be
displayed for you to set the ON time.)
2. Set the "hour(--)" you want by pressing the TUNING
button, and then press the NEXT button. "Minute"
signal will blink.
After you set the "minute(--)" you want in the same
way as for "hour", the display will show "DAILY OFF
--:--" which indicates the OFF time. Set the OFF time
in the same way as you set the "ON" time.
3. Select the input source you want to listen to by
pressing the TUNING button after the NEXT button.
Each press of the TUNING button displays the input
source in the following sequence (TUNER ∑CD ∑
TAPE ∑TUNER-R ∑TUNER).
●TUNER: When you want to listen to the broadcast
at your desired time.
To allow this function to work properly, connect
the tuner to a TEAC "UR" Remote Control System
compatible amplifier (A-R600) which has a Remote
Control terminal on its rear panel.
●CD: When you want to listen to a compact disc at
your desired time.
●TAPE: When you want to listen to a cassette tape
at a desired time.
●TUNER-R: When you want to record a cassette
tape at a desired time while listening to a
broadcast.
Then "REC" will appear on the display.
4. Press the DAILY button or NEXT button to complete
presetting. Then, the display will return to the

Notes:
●If the timer is off, "DAILY" or "DAILY 'REC'" will not be
displayed and the timer function does not work.
●If you want to correct preset time of DAILY, preset

"OFF" time, the DAILY presets will be cancelled.
DAILY Presetting
This system has two memory functions such as "Most
recent" and "Back-up".
●"Most-recent" memory function
This function memorizes an FM or AM (MW)
broadcast station listened to when power was last
turned off, and searches for that broadcast station
automatically when you turn on power later.
●"Back-up" memory function
This function conserves the already preset station
memories, and "Most-recent" memory function, even
in the event of a cut-off of power supply, as when the
plug is pulled out of the wall outlet, for 3 days.

OPERATIONS
WHEN TO USE RESET SWITCH
1. When this system is subjected to an electrical shock.

RDS(Radio Data System) (EUR models only)
RDS is a broadcasting service which allows stations to
send additional information along with the regular
radio program signal RDS services can be received
only in FM band.
RDS Display
1. Press the POWER button to ON.
2. Press the BAND button to select FM.
3. Select the RDS broadcasting by use of the PRESET
CALL button.
●The RDS indicator lights in the display.
This unit receives and displays the following kinds of
data.
●PS (Program Service Name): Displays FM station
name.
●PTY (Program Type): Program type will be displayed
while receiving FM.
●RT (Radio Text): Displays the news of stations
composed of up to 64 symbols.
●CT (Clock Time): Displays the information about
times provided from the station.
●TP (Traffic Program)
●TA (Traffic Announcement)
4. Press the RDS MODE button.
Each time you press the button briefly (0.5 sec or
less), the modes will change as follows regardless of
the current mode.

(1) PS mode
●When you select PS with the RDS MODE button,
"PS" will blink for about 4 seconds.
●After 4 seconds, PS or a station name will be
displayed.
(2) CT mode
●When you select CT with the RDS MODE button,
"CT" will blink for about 4 seconds. After 4 seconds,
the clock time will be displayed.
●If there is no CT data among received broadcastings,
"NO CT" will be displayed.
(3) PTY mode
●When you select PTY with the RDS MODE button,
"PTY" will blink for about 4 seconds. After 4 seconds,
the type of received PTY will be displayed. There are
31 kinds of PTY Data as follows.
NEWS brief annoucements, events, public opinion,
reports, actual situations.
AFFAIRS a kind of suggestion including practical
annoucements other than news, documents,
discussion, analysis and so on.
INFO daily information or reference such as
weather forecast, consumer guide, medical
assistance and so on.
SPORT sports-related programs.
EDUCATE educational and cultural information.
DRAMA all kinds of radio concert and serial drama.
CULTURE all aspects of national or local culture
including religious events, philosophy, social
science, language, theatre, and so on.
SCIENCE programs on natural science and
technology.
VARIED popular programs such as quiz, entertainment,
private interview, comedy, satire and so on.
POP M program on commercial, practical and
popular songs, and sale volume of discs, etc.
ROCK M practical modern music generally composed
and played by young musicians.
M.O.R.M popular music usually lasting for less than 5
minutes.
LIGHT M classical music, instrumental music, chorus,
and light music favoured by non-
professionals.
CLASSICS orchestra including great operas, symphony,
chamber music and so on.
OTHER M other music styles (Rhythm & Blues, Reggae,

5. Press the TUNING UP (O) or DOWN (o) button.
When you press the TUNING button after your
desired program is searched, you can continue to
search for another program type by increasing or
decreasing the frequency from the current one.
Notes:
●When the same program type is not found in PTY
Search mode, searching will stop and search mode
will be released automatically.
●If the same program type is not found during PTY
Search, it will stop at the beginning frequency.
●In case the currently received station is not
broadcasting RDS, "NO RDS" will be displayed
continuously regardless of RDS mode.
●When the reception of broadcasting is rather weak
(RDS: Off), "NO RDS" will also be displayed. In such
a case, correct the position of the antenna.

data of received RT will be displayed.
●If there is no RT data among received broadcastings,
RDS mode will be automatically switched to PS
mode.
(5) TA mode (TP Search Function)
●When you select TA by use of the RDS MODE
button, "TA" will blink for about 4 seconds. After 4
seconds, TP received broadcasting will be searched
with FM frequency increasing in 50 kHz steps.
●If TP received broadcasting is searched, the increase
in frequency will stop and it is asked whether TA will
be received or not.
●If TP and TA turn off while you are receiving TA, the
tuner will search TA broadcasting again with FM
frequency increasing in 50 kHz steps.

Comment raccorder un câble coaxial au
transformateur d'adaptation
1Dénuder le câble et le préparer comme
montré.
2Appuyer sur les deux languettes latérales vers
l'extérieur pour retirer le couvercle.
3Enrouler l'âme autour de la fixation métallique
centrale comme montré.
En utilisant des pinces, etc. forcer un peu sur
les fixations métalliques dentelées pour
qu'elles maintiennent la partie guipée.
Remettre le couvercle en place.
Antenne-cadre intérieure AM
L'antenne cadre AM haute performance, fournie avec le
T-R460 permet une très bonne réception dans la plupart
des régions.
Raccorder les fils de l'antenne-cadre aux bornes
d'antenne AM comme décrit.
Pour raccorder les fils d'antenne aux bornes
correspondantes, desserrer la vis de la borne, introduire
la fiche dans la borne puis resserrer la vis àfond.
Placer l'antenne sur une étagère, par exemple, ou la
suspendre dans un encadrement de fenêtre, etc., en
l'orientant de façon àobtenir la meilleure réception
possible, et aussi loin que possible de la chaîne, des fils
de raccordement des haut-parleurs et du cordon
d'alimentation, afin d'éviter tout bruit indésirable.
Antenne extérieure AM
Si l'antenne cadre AM fournie ne permet pas une
réception satisfaisante (du fait que vous êtes situétrop
loin d'un émetteur ou que vous habitez dans un
bâtiment en béton, etc.), il peut être nécessaire d'utiliser
une antenne AM extérieure. Utilisez un fil isoléd'une
longueur supérieure à5 m, dénudez l'une de ses
extrémités et raccordez la àla borne, comme décrit sur
le schéma. Le fil d'antenne doit être tendu àl'extérieur
ou àl'intérieur àproximitéd'une fenêtre. Pour une
meilleure réception, raccordez la prise de terre àune
masse fiable.
Note: Même si vous utilisez une antenne extérieure, ne
débranchez pas l'antenne-cadre AM.

AVANT UTILISATION
●Choisir avec soin l'endroit oùvous placerez votre
appareil. Eviter de le placer directement au soleil ou
