5.0 MAINTENANCE
5.1 CLEANING
Every cleaning operation of the safety component must be carried out with the machine turned off and carried out by personnel suitably trained for ordinary maintenance.
The cleaning of the various components must be carried out using water and neutral detergents. Do not absolutely use corrosive agents or acids. The transparent POLYCARBONATE LEXAN ® shield, is easy to
clean:
- Do not absolutely dry-rub with rags or abrasive sponges. They will make the surface opaque.
- Dusty surfaces can be cleaned with warm water and then dried accurately to avoid residual lime with water that is too hard that in a later rubbing might scratch the shield.
- We recommend cleaning the safety component every time it is necessary to have a clear and sure view of the work to be performed.
5.2 SHUT-DOWN
In case it is necessary to put the safety component out of order, all the operations needed to put the machine itself out of order must be carried out as the machine IS NOT IN SAFETY.
5.3 WASTEDISPOSAL
Whenever you decide not to use the safety component, the subject of the present manual, any longer because it is obsolete or irremediably faulty or worn out, put it out of order adopting the following procedures:
A)Make sure to have stopped the machine and its disconnection from the general power supply.
B)Check the absence of residual potential and kinetic power.
C)Disconnect the electric interlock cable from the machine with due precaution.
D)If useful to reduce the overall dimensions and/or make transport easier, dismantle its various parts with extreme caution.
Operate in conformity with the regulations in force in your country of use for its disposal, employing companies specialized in scrapping, recycling and disposing of electric equipment.
The components with this symbol indicated above, respond to the requisites requested by the new regulations (2002/96/CE – 2002/95/CE) introduced to protect the environment from electric and electronic
equipment that have to be disposed of in an appropriate manner at the end of their life cycle.
Ask information on the matter from the local authorities in the zones dedicated to the disposal of electric and electronic waste.
By disposing of this product in the appropriate way, you contribute to avoid potential negative consequences that might result from an inadequate disposal of the product. The equipment
consists of non-biodegradable parts and substances that might pollute the environment if not disposed of suitably.
In addition, parts of this material can be recycled, avoiding polluting the environment.

VERIFYING THE OPERATION
3.5 SHIELDMATERIAL
PLEXIGLAS RESIST® is an extruded acrylic glass in polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), shockproof modified, with
high characteristics of resistance to abrasion and deterioration caused by lubricant-coolants; a condition that would
cause an abrupt loss of quality and resistance on other kinds of materials.
PLEXIGLASRESIST® have, therefore, greater resilience in comparison to traditional acrylic glass;
- In transport and management
- In all phases of processing
- In assembly
- In final use
PLEXIGLAS RESIST® joins the positive characteristics of PMMA with the resistance of other plastic materials,
e.g. polycarbonate (PC) and is very resistant to atmospheric agents and very durable. In addition, it does not
require further protection against UV rays like other plastic material (e. g. PC, PET, PETG).
3.6 REFERENCE DIRECTIVES AND REGULATIONS
The protection device has been created in conformity with Community directives and European harmonizing
regulations pertaining to machines and in particular:
3.0 DESCRIPTIONOF THE SAFETYCOMPONENT
3.1 CHOICEOF THE SAFETYCOMPONENT
The safety component PTO 10/… is used for protecting the operator against the single mobile
components set to rotate by the chuck (therefore normally the piece being worked) and the
direct projection of shavings and splashes of lubricant-coolant. The operating position of the
protection shield is near the tool-holding turret, for a length approximately corresponding to
that of the longitudinal carriage (to which it is anchored at the back), position where the
operator stands during working.
- The safety component PTO 10/… is available in different forms, the differences regard the
size of the shield and the number of articulated arms (which determine the field of
intervention), therefore the correct form must be chosen according to the machine where is it
to be installed, then:
- Carefully check the general dimensions of the machine and in particular of the longitudinal
carriage, then the work area to be “segregated”.
- Make sure that no interferences with the chuck guard may occur and that the presence of
both guards does not imply any “conditioning” on the safety state of the operator.
Note: the chuck guard must be present and operating, regardless of the presence of the chip-
guard for the carriage and vice versa.
3.2 STATE OF THE SUPPLY
PHOTO 1 - Independent of the number of safety components purchased, the general
package is in any case in the form of one or more robust cardboard boxes, where inside the
various single packages are suitably placed, in their turn well protected from each other by
suitable material (cardboard and plugs in expanded polystyrene).
The PTO10/…safety component is already supplied pre-assembled in some sets, contained in suitable polyethylene envelopes 1G, the screws necessary for assembly are contained in a small envelope 1F.
All the packages are distinguished externally by an identification label that shows the same data of the purchased article, with respective progressive numbering. The same label is also show on the back of the
relevant operation and maintenance manual.
3.3 TECHNICALINFORMATION 3.4 WEIGHTSANDDIMENSIONS 3.5
4.0 INSTALLATION
4.1 ASSEMBLINGTHE SAFETY COMPONENT
1 - PHOTO 1, the safety component is simply assembled by joining the three groups, using
the nuts and bolts supplied with the various components.
2 - Assemble the shield 1A with the articulated arm 1B, through the ball joint 1C, then insert
the support ring 1E of the articulated arm, through the support hub 1D, of the micro-switch box
group, avoiding tightening the point screw 3G– PHOTO 3, until the anchor is completed.
3 - The Guard is now complete with all its components and ready to be anchored to the
machine.
4.2 ANCHORINGTHE SAFETY COMPONENT
4 - PHOTO 3, bring the complete guard near to the back zone of the longitudinal carriage,
RIGHT side, putting the micro-switch box 3A in a zone if possible free from obstructions and
interferences with other components 3B, considering that during use the complete guard
rotates counterclockwise on the axis of the micro-switch box, therefore towards RIGHT, as
shown in PHOTO 4, and according to the conformation that the articulated arm will take, it
might interfere with other mechanical devices, such as the vertical pipes for lubrication-
cooling.
5 - The angular anchor stirrup 3E, has a double anchor system, front and lateral, first make
sure whether the front fixing is possible (as shown), otherwise consider a lateral fixing 3C.
In case of interferences with other components present on the ideal anchor surface, it is
recommended to use an adjustment plate, as shown in point 3F.
6 - Once the ideal position has been identified, proceed with the “marking” of at least two of the
three holes present, using a common tracing instrument.
7 - With a suitable drill, make the relevant Ø 6.7 holes to be threaded M8 and deep enough for the length of the screws supplied: n.2 TCEI 8x20 + n.2 TE 8x20
4.3 ADJUSTINGTHE SAFETY COMPONENT
8 - PHOTO 4, once the component has been anchored to the machine, proceed with a first
adjustment of the friction joints 4D - 4G, so that the guard can hold autonomously for the
course of the operations, use two 19 mm box wrenches, tightening the screws in inverse
proportion starting from the first joint 4G (the most burdened with the load to take) and
continuing towards the outside (the final adjustment is the last operation).
9 - Act manually on the articulated arms, with the necessary strength so that the guard takes
the desired “conformation”.
10 - The last operation requires the identification of the shield position: it must “segregate” the
tool-holding turret longitudinally, while it must overlap the guard of the Lathe chuck
transversally, so that during working they can not interfere, thus guaranteeing an optimal
“segregation” of the dangerous zone.
11 - The shield is adjusted thanks to the ball joint 4E, loosen the locking screw 4Fwith a 17 mm
box wrench, so that the shield 4B can be freely oriented towards the desired position, which
must also occur according to the operator's “morphology”, then tighten the locking screw 4F
definitively, including its anti-loosening lock nut.
12 - Once the “conformation” given to the guard, particularly the horizontal position, has been
verified, it is necessary to put the support hub present on the micro-switch box 4H to limit stop,
keeping the shield still on its position, rotate the hub clockwise (seen from above) until
reaching its limit stop position corresponding to the intervention point of the micro-switch,
then make sure that the support ring of the articulated arm 4G is against the top of the micro-
switch box group, so that the tempered washer placed between the two parts (with the help of
grease) can perform its “anti-grip” function.
13 - Keeping the guard position, tighten the locking point screw 3G –PHOTO 3 present on the
back of the support ring, which provides a useful mark for making a Ø 8 mm dead hole, 3 - 5
mm deep, where the locking point screw will be inserted and definitively tightened; this will allow to keep the chosen position during the frequent guard opening-closing maneuvers.
14 - Once the anchor operation has been completed, check the “mechanical” operation of the whole, rotating the guard towards the RIGHT and making sure that there are no interferences or evident anomalies.
NOTE: We make it clear that the articulated arms perform a “quick adjustment” function on the protection shield, an operation to be carried out before the working and with non-running machine.
To open the guard in order to enter the “segregated” zone, it is necessary to respect its usual “interlocked” opening direction, as shown in PHOTO 4.
4.4 ELECTRICCONNECTION OF THE SAFETYINTERLOCK TO THEMACHINE
The electric connection of the safety interlock to the machine requires the intervention of skilled and authorized personnel, familiar with the
main safety machinery standards.
Make sure that the machine is preset for interfacing the safety consents envisaged; consult (if present) the instruction manual supplied by
the original constructor of the machine.
- The PTO 10/... series guards are provided with a safety switch, equipped with n.2 NC contact (normally closed) as per norm EN 60947-5-1,
and they have an electric pre-wired wire, protected by special sheath.
- The wires coming from the interlocked guard on the carriage mod. PTO 10/... together with those coming from the chuck guard device
(including any other interlocked systems) must be connected to the safety circuit of the machine which cuts off the control on the movement
of the Lathe chuck.
- The protection sheath of the electric wire present on the guards, must be kept for its whole length, up to the wire input into the electric board
of the Lathe; if necessary, install a shunt box, as shown in point 3H–PHOTO3, in order to meet the requirements of the case.
- Protection from short-circuit of the electric interlock must be must be guaranteed by an anti-overcurrent device, as shown in sheet 3.3
TECHNICALINFORMATION.
- The devices are thus ready to be connected to a control and safety circuit with “expected architecture” of cat.3 pursuant to EN ISO 13849-1.
The closure of the interlocked guard mustnot restart thechuck rotation, this must be started manually through a control provided for
thispurpose.
4.5 VERIFYINGTHE OPERATION
Once the mechanical assembly of the guard and its electric connection to the safety circuit of the machine have been completed, it is necessary to check the proper operation of the whole, as follows:
1 - It must only be possible to operate the Lathe chuck motor (and any other equipment being used) with the guard in working position, as shown in PHOTO4.
2 - On the contrary, when opening the guard, (and any other equipment being used) the Lathe chuck motor, must stop immediately and its restart must necessarily require a sequence of guards repositioning and
chuck motor start through voluntary maneuver, by special control provided for this purpose.
