Multi-Phases 2
Introduction
We thank you for purchasing this product manufactured by Thetford Armature Inc.
This model is a high-end electric phase-converter, designed to provide electrical
power to operate three-phase electric loads from a single-phase power source.
Read this guide carefully
Should you not understand any part of this guide, do not hesitate to contact us to be
informed of the start-up, the operating and the maintenance procedures.
In this guide and on the stickers affixed to the phase-converter, the WARNING
block is used to alert employees of special instructions concerning specific
operations that could prove hazardous if not executed properly or with caution.
The operator is responsible for the correct and safe use of the equipment. We
strongly urge the operator to read this guide and to fully understand all the
instructions before using the equipment.
1- Installation procedure
1.1- Assembly:
Put the phase-converter on a solid surface and fix it securely using the four
holes of the base. Rubbers can be used between the phase-converter's base
and the surface. Using these rubbers will reduce vibration and noise.
WARNING
Never use the equipment if it is not properly secured.

1.2-Connecting the device
It is recommended to use a switch to start and stop the phase-converter and to use a
junction box.
A) Identify the A, B, and C terminals in the junction box (see Figure 1).
B) Connect lines L1 and L2 of the single-phase power supply respectively to A and
B terminals of the junction box.
C) Connect the phase-converter's T1, T2 and T3 terminals (see Figure 2)
respectively to the A, B and C terminals of the junction box.
D) Connect the three-phase load(s) to the A, B and C terminals of the junction box.
E) It is preferable to connect the single-phase controls (starter, automaton, etc.)
between the A and B terminals of the junction box.

Multi-Phases 4
Figure 2
The three-phase power generated by the phase-converter has a voltage of 240-volt.
A transformer must be used to obtain a dierent voltage .The recommended type
of transformer is a Delta-Star transformer.
WARNING
NEVER CONNECT THE H0 or X0 OF A TRANSFORMER'S PRIMARY
TO THIS EQUIPMENT.
When using an autotransformer, the neutral H0 or X0 must never be connected to
the phase-converter. When using a Delta-Star transformer, the neutral H0 or X0
must never be connected to the phase-converter.
WARNING
Use overload protection as required under the electrical regulations for the
location of the installation

Multi-Phases 5
2 Utilisation
2.1 Starting the phase-converter
The phase-converter is started when the T1 and T2 terminals are energized by the
single-phase input. Use of a switch is recommended. Sometimes the phase-
converter does not start. When this occurs, simply turn the switch off and try again.
If this situation persists, please contact your representative.
WARNING
Phase-converters are not designed to execute frequent start-ups so it is
recommended to start them no more than once or twice a day.
WARNING
Always start up the phase-converter by itself, without any load
Always ensure that the input voltage loss is not greater than 10% when starting up
the phase-converter. If a loss greater10% is observed, check the adequacy of the
electrical installation..
2.2 Operation
Once the phase-converter is in operation, it is possible that the voltage between the
T2 and T3 terminals will be higher. This variance is normal and will correct itself
when a load is applied. Always refer to section 3 when changes are made during
installation to avoid overloading the device.

Multi-Phases 6
2.3 Do not OVERLOAD the phase-converter
Overloading a phase-converter above its rated capacity can damage the phase-
converter and the connected electrical devices. Respect the following instructions
to avoid overloading the unit:
- Calculate the total HP of all the electrical devices to be connected at the same
time. The total must not exceed the phase-converter's capacity (see section 3).
- Identify the HP of the most powerful motor and ensure it does not exceed the
phase-converter's capacity (see section 3).
- If the phase-converter is connected to resistive loads (heating or a welding
machine):
1- Determine the current (amperage) used by the equipment
2- Multiply this number by the operating voltage to get the Watts
(volts x amperes = watts)
3- Multiply the Watts x 1.5 and then ensure it does not exceed
the equipment's capacity (see section 3)
3 Technical specifications of the products
3.1 Current (amperage) of the phase-converters at full capacity (100%)
