1. For your safety, keep the Model DAB a safe distance away from a naked ame, such as a lit candle.
2. The recommended operating temperature range for the Model DAB is 5 degrees C — 40 degrees C.
3. The 12-16VDC input is suited for operating the Model DAB in a boat or camper using an optional
12VDC, 2A fused adaptor.
4. The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping and splashing and that no objects lled with
liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the apparatus.
5. Attention: When the unit is in Standby mode the apparatus is still in tension.

ABOUT TIVOLI AUDIO
Tivoli Audio was started by Tom DeVesto with the goal of bringing simple to use, high quality audio
products to the consumer at reasonable prices. His long professional association with Henry Kloss
includes co-founding Cambridge SoundWorks*. As CEO and head of research and develoment at
his former company, Tom was responsible for the development of many of the best selling home
entertainment and multi-media products on the market. He also held senior management positions
in product development at both Advent and Kloss Video.
Henry Kloss (1929-2002) began his long love affair with audio back in the early 1950’s when, as
a student at M.I.T., he began building speaker enclosures for fellow students who wanted to exploit
the sound of live FM broadcasts of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. With encouragement from
Major Edwin Armstrong, inventor of FM, and M.I.T. lab staff, he co-founded Acoustic Research in
1952. Here, Henry helped co-invented the revolutionary AR1 acoustic suspension loudspeaker,
which forever changed the way audio was reproduced. In 1957 he went on to co-found KLH where
he introduced audio enthusiasts to the Model Six loudspeaker, Model Eight FM table radio, and the
Model 11 portable phonograph. Ten years later at Advent, he designed one of the rst projection
televisions (which earned him an Emmy Award), along with one of the rst consumer cassette decks
utilizing Dolby B noise reduction**. After continuing projection television work at Kloss Video, Henry
co-founded Cambridge SoundWorks in 1988 along with Tom DeVesto. In 2000, at the age of 70,
Henry emerged from retirement to once again team-up with DeVesto to produce the original, critically
acclaimed Model One mono table radio.

MODEL DAB INSTRUCTIONS
Congratulations on your purchase of the Model DAB table radio. The Model DAB combines
our sensitive Henry Kloss analog AM/FM tuner with DAB’s multi-channel, digital-quality programming.
The result is a great sounding, easy to use, unique home entertainment product.
In order to take full advantage of what your new radio is capable of, please take a moment to read
this owner’s manual and the Safety Instructions. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate
to contact your dealer/distributor or Tivoli Audio.
Please save the carton and original packing should you ever need to ship your radio, as
shipping damage is not covered by the factory warranty.

GETTING STARTED
1. Fully extend the telescoping antenna on the rear panel.
2. Attach the external power supply and plug it into a wall outlet. The unit will emit a brief tone and
the tuning and power lights will illuminate momentarily.
3. Set the front panel source switch to DAB and press the red Power button on the front panel
to activate the unit.
4. Adjust the volume control to your liking once AutoTuning is complete. Stations will be stored
in alphanumeric order. “No Stations Available” will be displayed if no stations are found in your
area. If the display says “No Stations Available”, press and hold the AutoTune button to perform
a full scan. Also be sure the unit is placed near a window or outside wall for best reception of
the DAB signal.
GUIDE TO FEATURES (FRONT PANEL)
1. VOLUME KNOB: Rotate the volume knob to the right to increase the volume or to the left to
decrease the volume. This knob also controls the volume of the headphone output.
2. DAB/FM/AM/AUX SOURCE KNOB: Set the knob to DAB to hear DAB stations, or turn the
knob one click to the right to hear the FM band, two clicks to the right to hear the AM band,
or three clicks for the Auxiliary input. When switching from DAB to FM, AM, or Aux, the LCD
will display the clock.
3. TUNING KNOB: Rotate the tuning knob to the right or to the left to adjust the analog FM (upper
half of dial) and AM (lower half of dial) frequency range. This control does not affect DAB channels.
4. POWER INDICATOR: Glows green whenever the unit is powered On.
5. TUNING INDICATOR: Glows bright amber when best AM/FM tuning has been achieved.
Some listenable AM stations will not light the tuning indicator and should be tuned by ear
for the clearest signal.

6. LCD: Shows the currently tuned DAB station on the top line and the station list on the bottom
line. Use the Up/Down buttons to scroll through stations and the Menu/Select button to select
and tune a DAB station. In FM/AM/Aux the display will show Tivoli Audio and the time. Cold
temperatures will affect the appearance and speed of the text. The backlight remains on
whenever the unit is On except in Sleep Mode. When the unit is Off, press the Info button to
activate the backlight for 10 seconds. Should the LCD ever be damaged and cracked, do not
touch the uid in the display.
7. MENU/SELECT: Press and hold to enter the main Menu or to select a station or Menu option.
See section marked “Main Menu” for more information. When in FM, AM, or Aux modes,
certain menu options may easily be accessed by using the Up > / Down < buttons and the
Menu/Select button to select the option. When tuned to a DAB station, press briey to see
signal strength meter and press again to return to previous information.
8. UP > / DOWN <: Use these buttons to change stations or cycle through Menu options. Press
the Menu/Select button to tune the DAB station or to select the option you want. There may
be a slight delay when changing stations.
9. SLEEP: Press to cycle through Sleep timer anywhere from 5 to 60 minutes or Off. Press the
Menu/Select button to select the option you want.
10. #1-5: Press and hold to set the currently tuned DAB station. The display will show “Preset 1
Saved” and the station name will show the preset number next to it. Once stored, press the
Preset button briey to recall the station associated with that preset. These presets are
dedicated to DAB channels only and will not store FM or AM stations. If a preset button is
pressed but no station has been stored the LCD will show “Empty Preset”.
11. AUTOTUNE: This feature is designed to re-tune the Model DAB after it has been moved to
a new location or if a new multiplex (block of stations) has been launched. Press briey for a
brief Local Scan or press and hold for 3 seconds for a longer Full Scan. Press again to cancel
AutoTune. In both cases a status bar will show scan progress. Note new stations within a
multiplex are automatically added when a station in that multiplex is tuned. AutoTune does not
affect stored preset stations. This button does not work when the unit is On in either FM/AM
or Aux mode.
12. INFO: When tuned to a DAB station, press to cycle through station information: (1) DAB
Frequency; (2) Kilobytes/second and if stereo/mono; (3) Signal Error Rate; (4) Station
Information; (5) None; (6) Station Format; (7) Time and Date. When the unit is Off, press
to activate the backlight for 10 seconds. This button does not work when the unit is On in
either FM/AM or Aux mode.
13. POWER: Press to power the unit On or Off. The blue LCD and green power LED will
illuminate when the unit is On.
14. ALARM: Press to review Alarm times and settings and to turn Alarms Off or On. When the
Alarm activates, press to turn the Model DAB Off.
15. SNOOZE (top of cabinet): When the alarm activates (radio or tone), press to mute the
sound for the period of time you designated in the Menu.

GUIDE TO FEATURES (REAR PANEL)
1. 12VDC/1.5A: Connect the included external power supply to this input, or use an optional 1.5A
fused, 12VDC adaptor for operation in a boat or camper. The connector must be 5.5mm/2.1mm
center positive. When disconnecting the power supply from the wall outlet, never pull it by the
cord. Do not plug the Model DAB into a wall outlet controlled by a switch. It is normal for the
power supply to become warm during use. Use only the external power supply provided
with the Model DAB. To obtain a replacement, contact your dealer/distributor or
Tivoli Audio USA at 1.877.297.9479.
2. EXTERNAL DAB/FM ANTENNA CONNECTION: See the section marked “AM/FM Reception”
and “DAB Reception”. Keep the antenna locked into its holder if the Model DAB is to be
transported or shipped.
3. HEADPHONE OUT: Connect a headset (not included) to this variable stereo output for private
listening. The headset will mute the primary speaker. The headset’s volume is adjusted using
the volume knob. This stereo output accepts a 1/8” stereo male mini connector. Avoid using
headphones at high volume levels to prevent possible hearing damage.
4. MIX IN: Connect your computer’s (or other device) audio output to this stereo input to hear audio
mixed in with DAB, FM, AM, or an auxiliary device if connected. The volume for the mixed
source must be adjusted at the connected device. This jack accepts a 1/8” stereo male mini plug.
5. AUX IN: To hear audio from another device, such as an MP3 player, CD player, TV, or computer,
connect said device’s audio output to this stereo input and switch the front source knob to Aux.
Switching to the Aux position does not turn on the connected device. This stereo input accepts
a 1/8” stereo male mini connector. Note you may need to adjust the volume level differently for
an auxiliary device than the level used for radio listening.

6. RECORD OUT: Connect a mini disc, cassette deck, or other recording device to this xed
level stereo output, or connect to a preamplier or integrated amplier and use the Model
DAB as a high performance tuner. The primary speaker will remain active when this jack
is used. This jack accepts a 3.5mm stereo male mini connector.
7. BALANCE CONTROL: If Tivoli Audio’s Stereo Speaker (sold separately) is not connected,
leave this control turned all the way to the Left and leave the Mono/Stereo switch in the Mono
position. If the Stereo Speaker is connected, set the Mono/Stereo switch to Stereo. Turn the
Balance Control clockwise to hear the Left (main unit) speaker, or counterclockwise to hear
the Right (Stereo) speaker. The center detent provides equal balance between the two
speakers. The balance control does not affect the headphone output.
8. R-SPR OUT: Connect the Tivoli Audio Stereo Speaker’s (sold separately) male RCA to this
female RCA output, switch the Mono/Stereo switch to Stereo, and position the balance control
to the center detent. Connecting a speaker other than Tivoli Audio’s Stereo Speaker could
damage the Model DAB and will void your warranty.
9. MONO/STEREO SWITCH: This switch should remain in the Mono position unless Tivoli
Audio’s Stereo Speaker (sold separately) is connected, in which case the stereo position
should be selected. Note the Mono position may help to clean-up static noise on some
analog FM stations.
10. SUB OUT: Connect Tivoli Audio’s Model Subwoofer (sold separately) to this output to
enhance the bass. This jack accepts a 1/8” stereo male mini plug.
11. EXTERNAL AM ANTENNA: Connect the included external AM loop antenna to this 1/8”
stereo mini jack. Fold the plastic base together and position for best AM reception for each
AM station. For more, see the section marked “AM/FM Reception”.
MAIN MENU
(Press and hold the Menu button for 3 seconds in DAB mode and use the Up/Down buttons to
cycle through the DAB menu)
STATION ORDER: Allows customizing the DAB station list shown on the second line of the LCD.
Press Menu/Select, press Up/Down buttons to cycle through: Favorite* (places Favorite stations
rst), Alphanumeric, Active (inactive stations placed last), Prune (inactive stations removed), and
Presets (“Favorite” must be selected. Replaces presets with 5 Favorites). Press Menu/Select to
set your preference.
MANUAL TUNE: Press Menu/Select, press Up/Down buttons to manually tune specic DAB frequen-
cies, then press Menu/Select to tune the shown frequency.
DRC VALUE: Dynamic Range Control allows you change the level of stations to make quiet
passages louder to compensate for a noisy environment or when listening at a low volume level.
Press Menu/Select and then use the Up/Down buttons to cycle through the options. Press the
Menu/Select button again to set the option you want. The options are:
DRC 0: Off.
DRC 1/2: 1/2 of transmitted signal.
DRC 1: As transmitted.

CLOCK: Press the Menu/Select button to enter the Sub-Menu and use the Up > Down < keys
and the Menu/Select button to select and set the following features.
1. SET ALARM: Press the Up> button until “Set Alarm” appears, then press the Menu/Select
button and the LCD will show Alarm 1 “Not in Use”. Press Menu/Select again and use Up/
Down buttons and the Menu/Select button to set Hour/Minutes and press Menu/Select
when nished setting the wake time. Now use the Up > button to choose Once or Daily to
have the alarm activate just one time or every day, then press menu/Select to save. Use
the Up/Down buttons to set Alarm 2 in the same manner. An alarm bell icon will be shown
on the LCD whenever either alarm is set. If an alarm is set to “Once”, the alarm bell icon
will disappear from the LCD after that alarm activates. The bell icon will remain on the LCD
if an alarm has been set to “Daily”.
If the Alarm is set, before turning the Model DAB Off, set the source knob to the source you
wish to wake up to (DAB, FM, AM, or Aux for Tone) and set the volume level. If you opt to
wake to the tone, the volume of the tone is xed and may not be adjusted. If the alarm
activates to the tone, changing the source knob from Aux to AM, FM, or DAB will turn the
Model DAB Off. If waking to DAB or the radio, be sure the station you’ve chosen will be
broadcasting during the time the alarm has been set to activate.
WARNING: If the alarm is set to wake to a DAB station and the DAB signal has been lost
or the station goes off the air when the alarm activates, there will be no sound.
2. ALARM ON/OFF: Press Menu/Select button and use Up/Down buttons to cycle through
Alarm 1 and 2 and press Menu/Select to set. A bell will be shown at the end of the LCD
when either or both Alarm 1 or 2 has been set.
3. SNOOZE: Press Menu/Select button and use Up/Down buttons to cycle through 10-60
minutes and press Menu/Select to set.
4. SLEEP: Press Menu/Select button and use Up/Down buttons to cycle through 5-60 minutes/
Off and press Menu/Select to set.
5. AUTO-SET CLOCK: Press Menu/Select button to engage clock Auto-Set if the DAB clock
signal is available.
6. SET CLOCK: Press Menu/Select button and use Up/Down buttons to set clock hours and
minutes manually if the DAB clock signal is unavailable. Clock setting will be followed by
year, month, and day settings.
SW VERSION: Indicates software version. This information may be required when requesting
technical assistance.
*Favorites: After a brief period of use, a heart symbol will automatically appear on the
display next to the 10 most listened to DAB stations.

RESET: Unplug the external power supply for 10 seconds, then plug it back in and power the unit
on again to re-set the microprocessor. To wipe all stored settings and return to factory default set-
tings, with the unit On, press and hold the Info button for 3 seconds, then press the Menu/Select
button to conrm Reset. The unit will beep and power Off.
DAB RECEPTION: The Model DAB received Band III frequencies (174-240MHz). The number of
channels you will receive depends on your location. Detach the telescoping antenna from its holder
and fully extend it in the vertical position. Position the antenna for best reception for each DAB
channel and/or move the radio to a location that provides best reception (such as in front of a
window). Just as with analog radio, weak digital signals can have a negative affect on sound quality.

“STATION OFF-AIR”: From time to time, some stations may stop broadcasting to perform
upgrades or maintenance. In such instances, the LCD will show “Station off-air” and there will
be no audio.
SECONDARY SERVICES: Secondary stations will be indicated by a >> symbol next to the
station name. Secondary services may not be available in your area
“?”: If this symbol appears next to the station name, it means the station is invalid or inactive.
AM/FM RECEPTION
The supplied telescoping FM antenna will provide good FM reception. In strong FM signal
locations, reducing the antenna’s length may provide better reception. This antenna has no
affect on AM reception.
For AM, fold the base together of the included AM loop antenna, connect it to the external AM
antenna input, and position the antenna (preferably near a window) for best reception for each
station. Keep the AM antenna as far away as possible from the main unit for the cleanest signal.
Buildings made with concrete, steel, or aluminum siding will hinder reception. Household appliances,
electric blankets, computers, CD players, microwave ovens, and other electronic devices can also
adversely affect reception or inject noise. If you experience this, move the Model DAB further from
the offending device or plug it into an electrical outlet not shared by another device. Metal surfaces
may also hinder AM reception.
PLACEMENT
Place the unit on a at, stable surface. Do not block or otherwise obstruct the rear bass port. The
Model DAB is video shielded but is best kept at least 10cm away from a computer monitor or
television. Placement in a bookcase, cabinet, or close to walls or corners may inate the bass.
CLEANING
Never use any harsh cleansers or solvents on your radio. Painting or staining the wood cabinet will
void your warranty. Since the wood cabinet is natural wood, the color/grain pattern may not
match other Tivoli Audio products.
NOTE: If you wish to attach a secondary speaker to the Model DAB for stereo reproduction,
consider Tivoli Audio’s matching Stereo Speaker, or use only the self-amplied variety, such as
those typically used with computers.

Tivoli Audio manufactures its products to very high standards and we are condent our products
will perform well. Accordingly, we warranty this product against manufacturing defects in material
and workmanship to the original owner, for a period of one year from the original date of purchase.
This warranty is non-transferable.
This warranty does not extend to damage caused by improper use/installation, faulty ancillary
equipment, modications, unauthorized repair, shipping damage or loss, abuse, accidents, use
on improper voltage/current, power surges, lightning or other acts of God, normal wear and tear,
commercial use, or purchase from unauthorized dealers. Proof of purchase as evidence the unit
was purchased from an authorized dealer within the warranty period may be required for warranty
service. Should service be necessary, do NOT return the product without rst contacting
your local distributor/dealer.
Please resist the temptation to take apart this product. There are no user serviceable parts inside,
and any attempt at modifying or repairing your unit will void the warranty. Tivoli Audio will not pay
for costs incurred due to correction of reception problems, elimination of externally generated
static/noise, loss of time, inconvenience, loss of use of product, or damage caused by improper
use of this product.
This warranty gives you specic legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary.
Some countries do not allow limitations on implied warranties or the exclusion of consequential
damages, therefore, such restrictions may not apply to you.
If you purchased an extended service contract from your dealer and service is required after the
manufacturer’s warranty has expired, please contact your dealer to obtain service.
