Notes on Regional Codes
• Most DVD discs have a g obe with one or more numbers in it c ear y visib e on the cover.
This number must match your DVD p ayer’s regiona code or the disc cannot p ay.
• If you try to p ay a DVD with a different region code from your p ayer, the message “Check Regiona
Code” appears on the TV screen.
Notes on DVDs and Video CDs
Because of prob ems and errors that can occur during the creation of DVD and CD software
and/or the manufacture of DVD and CD discs, Toshiba cannot guarantee that this DVD p ayer

HANDLING CAUTIONS
• Before connecting other components to this p ayer, be sure to turn them a off.
• Do not move the p ayer whi e a disc is being p ayed, or the disc may be scratched or broken, and the p ayer’s
interna parts may be damaged.
• Do not put a f ower vase fi ed with water or any sma meta objects on the p ayer.
• Be carefu not to put your hand into the disc tray.
• Do not p ace anything other than the disc in the disc tray.
• Exterior interference such as ightning and static e ectricity can affect norma operation of this p ayer.
If this occurs, turn the p ayer off and on again with the POWER button, or disconnect and then reconnect the
AC power cord to the AC power out et. The p ayer wi operate norma y.
• Be sure to remove the disc and turn off the p ayer after use.
• Disconnect the AC power cord from the AC out et when you don’t intend to use the p ayer for ong
periods of time.
• C ean the disc by wiping in a straight ine from the inside to the outside of the disc.
NOTES ON LOCATING
P ace the DVD video p ayer on a eve surface. Do not use it on a shaky or unstab e surface such as a
wobb ing tab e or inc ined stand. The oaded disc may become disa igned and damage the DVD video p ayer.
When you p ace this DVD video p ayer near a TV, radio, or VCR, the p ayback picture may become poor and
the sound may be distorted. In this case, p ace the DVD video p ayer away from the TV, radio, or VCR.
STORING DISCS
Do not store discs in a p ace subject to direct sun ight or near heat sources.
Do not store discs in p aces subject to moisture and dust such as a bathroom or near a humidifier.
Store discs vertica y in a case. Stacking or p acing objects on discs outside of their case may cause warping.
MAINTENANCE OF CABINET
For safety reasons, be sure to disconnect the AC power cord from the AC out et.
• Do not use benzene, thinner, or other so vents for c eaning.
• Wipe the cabinet with a soft c oth.

Install Batteries in the Remote control

Open the battery
cover on the back of
the remote contro .
Operating with the remote control
Point the remote control at the remote sensor and
press the buttons.
Distance : Approx. 7m(23 feet) from the front of the
remote sensor.
Ang e : Approx. 30º in each direction of the front of the
remote sensor.
• Do not expose the remote sendor of the DVD video
p ayer to a strong ight source such as direct sun ight
or other i umination. If you do so, you may not be
ab e to opearate the DVD video p ayer via the
remote contro .

Rep ace the battery
cover.
If the remote control doesn’t operate
properly:
- Check the po arity + - of the batteries (Dry-Ce ).
- Check if the batteries are drained.
- Check if remote contro sensor is b ocked by
obstac es.
- Check if there is any f uorescent ighting nearby.
Caution: Never throw batteries into a fire.
Notes:
• Be sure to use AA size batteries.
• Dispose of batteries in a designated disposa area.
• Batteries shou d a ways be disposed of with the
environment in mind. A ways dispose of batteries in
accordance with app icab e aws and regu ations.
• If the remote contro does not operate correct y, or if
the operating range becomes reduced, rep ace
batteries with new ones.
• When necessary to rep ace batteries in the remote
contro , a ways rep ace both batteries with new
ones. Never mix battery types or use new and used
batteries in combination.
• A ways remove batteries from remote contro if they
are dead or if the remote contro is not to be used
for an extended period of time. This wi prevent
battery acid from eaking into the battery
compartment.

Progressive scanning creates an improved picture

MP3/WMA

Instant Replay (DVD)
This function is used to rep ay the previous 10
seconds of a movie from the current position.

Super Audio CD is a high qua ity audio format with

Notes on Discs
HANDLING DISCS
Do not touch the p ayback side of the disc. Ho d the
disc by the edges so that fingerprints do not get on
the surface. Never stick paper or tape on the disc.
STORING DISCS
After p aying, store the disc in its case. Do not
expose the disc to direct sun ight or sources of heat
and never eave it in a parked car exposed to direct
sun ight.
CLEANING DISCS
Fingerprints and dust on the disc can cause poor
picture qua ity and sound distortion. Before p aying,
c ean the disc with a c ean c oth. Wipe the disc from
the center out.
Do not use strong so vents such as a coho , benzine,
thinner, commercia y avai ab e c eaners, or anti-static
spray intended for o der viny records.

Choosing a Connection

Before Connecting the DVD Player
- A ways turn off the DVD p ayer, TV, and other components before you connect or disconnect any
cab es.
- Refer to the user’s manua of the additiona components (such as a TV) you are connecting for
more information on those particu ar components.
Connection to a TV (Video)

Using video/audio cab es, connect the VIDEO (yellow)/AUDIO

HDMI VIDEO Specifications
When you press the HDMI button, 480p, 720p and 1080i are se ected in order.
The first press of the HDMI button brings up the current reso ution.
The second press a ows you to change the HDMI output reso ution.
- Depending on your TV, certain HDMI output reso utions may not work.
Because HDMI is an evo ving techno ogy, it is possib e that some devices with an HDMI input may not operate
proper y with this DVD p ayer.
- P ease refer to the user's manua of your TV.
- If HDMI cab e is p ugged into TV, the DVD p ayer’s output is set to HDMI within 10 seconds.

•HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface)
HDMI is an interface to enab e the digita transmission of video and audio data with just a sing e connector.
Using HDMI, the DVD p ayer transmits a digita video and audio signa and disp ays a vivid picture on a TV
having an HDMI input jack.
•HDMI, the HDMI logo and High-Definition Multimedia Interface are trademarks or registered
trademarks of HDMI Licensing LLC.
•HDMI connection description
HDMI connector - Both uncompressed video data and digita audio data (LPCM or Bit Stream data).
- Though the p ayer uses a HDMI cab e, the p ayer outputs on y a pure digita signa to the TV.
- If TV does not support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digita content protection), snow noise appears on the
screen.
•Why does Toshiba use HDMI?
Ana og TVs require an ana og video/audio signa . However, when p aying a DVD, the data transmitted to a
TV is digita . Therefore either a digita -to-ana og converter (in the DVD p ayer) or an ana og-to-digita
converter (in the TV) is required. During this conversion, the picture qua ity is degraded due to noise and
signa oss. HDMI techno ogy is superior because it requires no D/A conversion and is a pure digita signa
from the p ayer to your TV.
•What is the HDCP?
HDCP (High-bandwidth Digita Content Protection) is a system for protecting DVD content output via
HDMI from being copied. It provides a secure digita ink between a video source (PC, DVD, etc.) and a
disp ay device (TV, Projector, etc.). Content is encrypted at the source device to prevent unauthorized
copies from being made.
