Limits in purpose
Safety precaution
▼ Never use this unit with any device other than TOSVERT VF-AS1/PS1 series inverters.
Doing so may cause an accident.
WARNING
Prohibition
▼ Never disassemble, modify or repair.
This can result in electric shock, fire and other injuries. Please call your Toshiba
distributor or service window for repairs.
▼ Do not remove this option or communication connectors from the inverter or set SW
while the power is on.
▼ Do not place or insert any kind of object (electrical wire cuttings, rods, wires etc.) inside
the inverter.
This will cause a short circuit and result in electric shock or fire.
▼ Do not allow water or any other fluid to come in contact with the inverter.
This will cause a short circuit and result in electric shock or fire.
Mandatory
action
▼Immediately turn the power off if the inverter begins to emit smoke, an unusual odor, or
unusual sounds.
Continuous use of the inverter in such a state will cause fire. If the inverter is left to be
turned on in that state, it can cause fire. Please call your Toshiba distributor service
window for repairs.

Handling
CAUTION
Prohibition
▼Do not touch the sharp portions (such as leads of parts on the board, the corner of board,
or etc.) on this option. It will lead to injuries.
Transportation & installation
Warning
Prohibition
▼Do not install and operate the inverter if it is damaged or any of its components are
missing.
This will result in electric shock or fire. Please call your Toshiba distributor or service
window for repairs.
▼Do not place any inflammable object near the inverter.
If flame is emitted due to failure in the inverter, it will lead to fire.
▼Do not install the inverter in any location where the inverter could come into contact with
water or other fluids.
This will result in electric shock or fire.
Mandatory
action
▼An emergency stop device must be installed that is configured in accordance with the
system specifications.
If such an emergency stop device that can activate a mechanical brake by shutting off
the power supply is not installed, operation cannot be stopped immediately by the
inverter alone, thus resulting in an accident or injury.
Wiring
WARNING
Mandatory
action
▼Electrical construction work must be done by a qualified expert.
Erroneous connection of power supply by someone who does not have that expert
knowledge will result in fire or electric shock.
▼Before wiring, perform the following steps.
(1) Turn off the power to the inverter.
(2) Wait at least 15 minutes and verify that the charge lamp is no longer lit.
(3) Use a tester that can measure DC voltages (800 VDC or more) and verify that the
voltage to the DC power circuits between [PA/+] and [PC/-] is 45V or less.
Performing wiring without carrying out these steps can lead to electric shock.
▼Tighten the screws on the terminal block to specified torque.
If the screws are not tightened sufficiently to the specified torque, it will result in fire.
NOTICE
Prohibition
▼Do not apply a dropping shock or other physical shocks
Otherwise, damage or malfunction will result.
Mandatory
action
▼Before handling this product, always touch a grounded metal to remove static electricity
from your body. Otherwise, damage or malfunction will result.
▼Transport or install under the environmental conditions prescribed in the instruction manual.
Transporting or installing under any other conditions will result in failure.

Operations
WARNING
Prohibition
▼ Do not touch switches when the hands are wet and do not try to clean the inverter with a
damp cloth.
Doing so will result in electric shock.
Mandatory
action
▼ Use an additional safety device with your VF-AS1/PS1 or system to prevent a serious
accident due to the unit malfunctions.
Usage without an additional safety device will cause an accident.
Disposal
CAUTION
Mandatory
action
▼ If you dispose of the inverter, have it done by a specialist in industry waste disposal*1.
If you dispose of the inverter by yourself, this can result in explosion of capacitor or
production of noxious gases, resulting in injury.
*1 Persons who specialize in the processing of waste are known as “industrial waste product collectors
and transporters” or “industrial waste disposal persons”. Please observe any applicable law, regulation,
rule or ordinance for industrial waste disposal.
Notes on use
Notes
▼Avoid installing in a place where ambient temperature or/and humidity change sharply.
▼Keep the control signal cable separate from the power cable of the inverter to prevent the inverter from
malfunctioning due to electromagnetic noise.
▼Insert a magne
tic contactor or similar device between the inverter and the power supply to ensure that
power is turned off if an emergency stop command is entered through the network.
NOTICE
Prohibition
▼Do not pull the cable connected to the terminal blocks.
This can result in damage or malfunction.

2.2. Wiring
When conducting wiring, follow the instructions below.
•
Use shield wire for control signal line and ground the unit with shield wire
(Use twisted pair shield cable for wiring of the analog monitor output.)
•
Never bind the signal line and main circuit connection wire together.
•
To prevent the connector from detaching, make sure to consider means to avoid
applying tension to the connector such as by fixing the wire.

3. Functional description
In this section, functions added by the installation of this expansion IO card option, on top
of the standard inverter functions, are described.
Note: When power on or reset the inverter, the initialization of the ETB004Z terminal
inputs and outputs are delayed about 300ms from the inverter own terminals.
3.1. Multi-function output terminal
Two output terminals and one relay output can be added. Function is similar to that of the
output terminals of the inverter, so refer to the inverter instruction manual.

The input pulse frequency is calculated to the percent base data. The calculated percent
data is converted to the frequency in accordance with 2 points setting (from
f234
to
f237
). Refer to the below figure.

4. External diagram
Do not forget to reserve the space for the options at time of installation.
External diagram of option (unit: mm)
Dimension of optional unit
The control panel depth increases about 21.6mm when the option is installed. Secure the
front space from the inverter control panel fully. The space which is necessary for the
option installation varies in the inverter capacity rate. Please refer to the inverter
instruction manual.

The following circumstances will incur paid service even before the warranty period expires.
- Product replacement or repair when the product is not returned.
- Product failure or damage due to misuse, inappropriate repair or modification of the product.
- Product failure or damage for reasons such as but not limited to a fall after purchase, an accident
during transport, or handling (e.g. smoking) during transport.
- Product failure or damage by natural disasters or unforeseeable external causes such as but not
limited to fire, salt exposure, gas exposure, earthquakes, storms, floods, lightning and abnormal
voltage.
- Product failure or damage by use under inappropriate circumstances, environments or use not
suggested in the product catalog or instruction manual, or use not complying with the original use
intended for the product.
- Product failure or damage by the lack of proper maintenance or replacement of expiring parts
suggested in the instruction manual.
- In case the product is embedded in your equipment, product failure or damage by causes
irrelevant to the product, such as the design of your equipment and software.
- In case the product is embedded in your equipment, product failure that could have been avoided
if your equipment had featured a safety device in compliance with the law that governs your
equipment, or any feature or structure that is considered the norm by the industry standard.
- Any product failure or damage by accidents that were unforeseeable with the technological
standard at shipment.
Warranty exemptions
