●Audio data damaged or erased through malfunction of this product or your personal computer
will not be compensated.
●Because audio data transferred to the Type II PC Card HDD (from here on described as
“HDD Card”) has been encrypted, copies made to another HDD Card or other media cannot
be played back.
Before using this product, make sure to read “IMPORTANT SAFETY
INSTRUCTIONS” in MOBILPHILE owner’s manual.

What is the TOSHIBA Audio Application?
The TOSHIBA Audio Application serves the following purposes.
Transferring Audio Data
The TOSHIBA Audio Application can be used to encrypt audio data on your personal
computer and transfer it to the HDD Card. Following are two methods for transferring data
to the HDD Card:
●With the HDD Card inserted into MOBILPHILE, audio data can be transferred.
●With the HDD Card inserted into the PC card slot on a personal computer, audio data
is transferred to the HDD Card.
Important
●Because it has been encrypted audio data transferred to the HDD Card using the
TOSHIBA Audio Application can be played back only on the MEG50AS.
●MOBILPHILE cannot play back audio data transferred to the HDD Card utilizing
software applications other than the supplied TOSHIBA Audio Application.

Audio Data Playback Flow

Import audio data from the desired music CD to your personal
computer, using a software application such as Windows Media Player
(version 7.1 or later). For details, consult Help in the software
application.


■Settings required when importing audio data using Windows
Media Player
Make the following settings when using Windows Media Player.
When using Windows Media Player for Windows XP:
1 Select “Options”from the Tools menu.
2 Select the “Copy Music”tab.
3 De-select the “Protect content”box.
When using Windows Media Player Version 7.1:
1 Select “Options”from the Tools menu.
2 Select the “CD Audio”tab.
3 De-select the “Enable Personal Rights Management”.

Important
●TOSHIBA does not guarantee that the TOSHIBA Audio Application will work on all
systems fulfilling the above requirements.
●When upgrading the OS, deinstall the TOSHIBA Audio Application first. After upgrading
the OS, reinstall the TOSHIBA Audio Application.
●An administrator’s right is required when using the TOSHIBA Audio Application on
Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, or Windows XP Professional.
●Toshiba Corporation cannot guarantee normal operations of the TOSHIBA Audio
Application on Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, or Windows
XP Professional, designed for dual-CPU configurations.
●When another application employing a different security method is used at the same
time, problems such as application hang or system failure (reboot needed) may occur
because of the security processing algorithm.
●The TOSHIBA Audio Application and the TOSHIBA Audio Manager cannot run at the
same time.
If both the TOSHIBA Audio Application and the TOSHIBA Audio Manager have been
installed, de-installing one of them disables startup of the other. If this happens, insert
CD-ROMs containing these applications into a personal computer, then follow the
installation wizard to perform recovery.

Installing the TOSHIBA Audio Application
Install the TOSHIBA Audio Application on your personal computer. Before starting the
installation, quit all applications in use.
Insert the supplied CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive on
a personal computer.
Click “Install TOSHIBA Audio Application”.
An install preparation window is
followed by the install wizard window
shown.
Click “Next”.
The “License Agreement”window appears.
Click “I Agree”.
The “Choose Destination Location”window appears.

Specify an installation destination, then click “Next”.
The “Installation Type”window
appears.
Click “Next”.
The “Select Program Folder”window appears.
Click “Next”.
The contents of “readme.txt”appears.
Click “Next”.
Installation begins. When installation is completed, the “InstallShield Wizard
Complete”window opens.
Click “Finish”.
A window that prompts you to restart may appear depending on the OS and other
system environments of your personal computer. If this is the case, follow the
instructions provided in the window.
NOTE
●If the wizard window does not appear in step 1, double-click “Setup.exe”(accessible
through Windows Explorer etc.) in the CD-ROM.

Connecting the HDD Card to a Personal Computer
In order to transfer audio data from a personal computer to the HDD Card, the HDD Card
will have to be connected to a personal computer by one of the following methods.
●Connect MOBILPHILE to a personal computer, via the USB ports.
●Insert the HDD Card to the PC card slot on a personal computer.
For the method of removing the HDD Card from a personal computer, see “Removing the
HDD Card from a Personal Computer”. ( page 14)
Connecting MOBILPHILE to a Personal Computer via the USB Ports
Insert the HDD Card into MOBILPHILE.
For details, see “Inserting the HDD Card”in MOBILPHILE owner’s manual.
Connect the AC adapter to MOBILPHILE.
For details, see “Charging the Battery”in MOBILPHILE owner’s manual.
Turn on the power to MOBILPHILE.
For details, see “Turning the Power On/Off”in MOBILPHILE owner’s manual.
Connect the USB cable to a personal computer and
MOBILPHILE.
When MOBILPHILE is connected to a personal computer for the first time, the “Add
New Hardware Wizard”window appears on a personal computer. Follow the
instructions provided in the window to install the USB storage driver.
While MOBILPHILE is connected to a personal computer, “USB CONNECTED”
appears on MOBILPHILE display panel.

Important
●When connecting MOBILPHILE to a personal computer, attach the AC adapter to
MOBILPHILE. If you connect MOBILPHILE to a personal computer without using the
AC adapter, an exhausted battery may result in data recorded on the HDD Card to
being damaged or lost.
●During data transfer from a personal computer to MOBILPHILE, do not remove the
USB cable or press the OPEN button on MOBILPHILE; data recorded on the HDD
Card may be damaged.
NOTES
●The USB storage driver for Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition can be located
under “\Driver\Win 98”in the supplied CD-ROM.
●When connected to a personal computer, MOBILPHILE cannot be operated. Playback
is interrupted when MOBILFILE is connected to a personal computer.
Inserting the HDD Card into the PC Card Slot on a Personal Computer
Insert the HDD Card into the PC card slot on a
personal computer.
●Turn on the power to a personal
computer. After the OS has been
started, insert the HDD Card.
●For details concerning insertion of

●When connecting the HDD Card to

■ For Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition
1 Insert the HDD Card into the PC card slot on a personal computer. The HDD
Card is automatically detected and the “Add New Hardware Wizard” window
appears.
2 Click “Next”.
3 Insert the supplied CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive on the computer.
4 Check the message box that is displayed to search for the optimum driver
for the device currently being used, then click “Next”.
5 Check the message box that is displayed to designate the search area,
select the “PC Card HDD Re-Partition Utility” folder on the CD-ROM in the
Reference field, then click “Next.”
6 Check the message box that is displayed to use updated driver for
TOSHIBA PC Card Hard Disk, then click “Next”.
The windows will then display a message indicating that the TOSHIBA PC Card Hard Disk
driver files are being searched for.
7 Click “Next”.
The window will then display a message indicating that the software required for the new
hardware device has been installed.
8 Click “Finish”.
9 If the menu screen of the supplied CD-ROM is displayed, click “Exit.”
■ For Windows Millennium Edition
1 Insert the HDD Card Into the PC card slot on a personal computer. The HDD
Card is automatically detected and the “Add New Hardware Wizard” window
appears.
2 Insert the supplied CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive on the computer.
3 Software installation is then executed.
The window will then display a message indicating that the software required for the new
hardware device has been installed.
4 Click “Finish”.
■For Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, or Windows XP
Professional
1 Insert the HDD Card to the PC card slot on a personal computer.
2 The HDD Card is automatically detected and the driver is automatically
installed.

Removing the HDD Card from a Personal Computer
Removing MOBILPHILE from a Personal Computer
For more information about removal from a personal computer, consult the owner’s manual
of the computer.
■ For Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition
1 On the taskbar, click the Remove Hardware icon.
2 Click the message box that indicates to safely remove TOSHIBA
MK5002MPL.
3 After a message indicating that the device can be safely removed appears,
click “OK,”then remove the USB cable from MOBILPHILE.
■For Windows Millennium Edition
1 On the taskbar, click the Remove Hardware icon.
2 Click the message box that indicates to halt the USB diskdrive.
3 After a message indicating that the USB diskdrive can now be safely
removed appears, click “OK,”then remove the USB cable from
MOBILPHILE.
■For Windows 2000 Professional
1 On the taskbar, click the Remove Hardware icon.
2 Click the message box that indicates to halt the USB mass storage device.
3 After a message indicating that the device can now be safely removed
appears, click “OK,”then remove the USB cable from MOBILPHILE.
■For Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional
1 On the taskbar, click the Remove Hardware icon.
2 Click the message box that indicates to safely remove the USB mass
storage device.
3 After a message indicating that the device can now be safely removed
appears, click the message, then remove the USB cable from MOBILPHILE.

Removing the HDD Card from a Personal Computer
For more information concerning removal from a personal computer, consult the owner’s
manual of the computer.
■ For Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition
1 On the taskbar, click the PC Card (PCMCIA) status icon.
2 Click the message box that indicates to quit TOSHIBA PC Card Hard Disk.
3 After a message appears indicating that the device can now be safely
removed, click “OK”, then remove the HDD Card from the personal com-
puter.
■For Windows Millennium Edition
1 On the taskbar, click the Remove Hardware icon.
2 Click the message box that indicates to quit drive of TOSHIBA PC Card
Hard Disk.
3 After a message appears indicating that the TOSHIBA HDD Card can now be
safely removed, click “OK”, then remove the HDD Card from the personal
computer.
■For Windows 2000 Professional
1 On the task bar, click the Remove Hardware icon.
2 Click the message box that indicates to quit PCMCIA IDE/ATAPI controller.
3 After a message appears indicating that the PCMCIA IDE/ATAPI controller
can now be safely removed, click “OK”, then remove the HDD Card from the
personal computer.
■For Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional
1 Click the Safely Remove Hardware icon.
2 Click the message box that indicates to safely remove PCMCIA IDE/ATAPI
controller.
3 After a message appears indicating that the PCMCIA IDE/ATAPI controller
can now be safely removed, click the message, then remove the HDD Card
from the personal computer.

How to Start
Click the Start menu, select “Programs”, “TOSHIBA
Audio Application”, and then “Audio Application”.
The Navigation window appears.
About the Navigation Window
■Folder tree and file list
●In the folder tree area, drives and folders on a personal computer are displayed as a tree
structure. A drive identified as a HDD Card is depicted with a HDD Card icon .
●Selecting a drive or a folder results in the lower-level folder or files appearing in the file list.
●You can switch between display and non-display of the lower-level folder by clicking the
boxes (+/–) at the left of drive or folder icons in the folder tree area.

About the Menus
■File menu
Open Starts the software application associated with the extension of
the file and opens the file.
Delete Erases the selected folder or file.
New Folder Creates a new folder under the selected folder. ( page 19)
Rename Modifies the name of the selected folder or file.
Properties Displays the properties of the selected folder or file.
Exit Quits the TOSHIBA Audio Application.
■Edit menu
Cut Cuts the selected folder or file.
Copy Makes a copy of the selected filer or file.
Paste Pastes a cut or copied file in the selected folder. When audio data
is pasted on the HDD Card, it is encrypted.

■View menu
Toolbar Switches between display and non-display of the Toolbar.
Status Bar Switches between display and non-display of the Status bar.
Folder Tree Switches between display and non-display of the Folder
Tree.
Up One Level Displays the master folder (on upper level) of the current
folder.
Refresh Redisplays a folder or file with the latest information.
Set Start Folder Allows you to select a folder to be displayed just after the
TOSHIBA Audio Application has been started. ( page 25)

Open Folder Opens a folder via Windows Explorer.
Register Folder Registers a folder.
Rearrange Folders Allows you to rearrange folders.
Folder Registered Opens a registered folder via Windows Explorer.

Search Searches for a file.
Edit Playlist Displays a Playlist edit window. ( page 22)
When a Playlist (m3u extension) selected:
The edit window of the selected Playlist appears.

Creating a Folder on the HDD Card
A new folder can be created on the HDD Card.
Connect the HDD Card to a personal computer.
Connect MOBILPHILE to a personal computer via the USB port or insert the HDD
Card to the PC card slot on a personal computer. ( page 10, 11)
Start the TOSHIBA Audio Application.
The Navigation window appears.
Select the HDD Card drive, then select “New Folder”
from the File menu.
The “New Folder”dialog box appears.
Enter a name, then click “OK”.
A new folder is created.
NOTES
●When disconnecting MOBILPHILE from a personal computer, perform hardware
removal operation using the icon on the Taskbar. ( page 13)
●When removing the HDD Card from a personal computer, perform hardware removal
operation using the icon on the Taskbar. ( page 14)

●If you have created a Playlist, audio data will be played back in the sequence specified

Transferring Audio Data to the HDD Card
Audio data encoded in MP3, WMA, or WAV formats can be transferred to the HDD Card.
Connect the HDD Card to a personal computer.
Connect MOBILPHILE to a personal computer via the USB port or insert the HDD
Card into the PC card slot on a personal computer. ( page 10, 11)
Start the TOSHIBA Audio Application.
The Navigation window appears.
Select the audio data to be transferred, then select
“Copy” from the Edit menu.
Select a destination folder on the HDD Card, then
select “Paste” from the Edit menu.
The selected audio data is encrypted, and then the encrypted data transferred to
the HDD Card.
●You can also drag the desired audio data onto the destination folder on the HDD
Card.
●You may also right-click the selected audio data, select “Copy” from the shortcut
menu, right-click the destination folder, then select “Paste” from the shortcut
menu.
NOTES
●Encrypted audio data is assigned a file name identical to “original audio data
name.SAT”.
●When you make a copy of audio data recorded on the HDD Card to a personal
computer, encrypted data is transferred as is.
●Audio data can also be transferred from Windows Explorer to the TOSHIBA Audio
Application.
