SoftIPT 2.1.2 Customized for the Motorola®MC70
Overview
The SoftIPT 2.1.2 is the latest version of the Toshiba SoftIPT softphone application for Pocket PCs. The
SoftIPT Pocket PC version is a portable software version designed for mobile devices. The SoftIPT Pocket
PC version enables users to take advantage of all the powerful features found on the standard IP
telephone.
While the SoftIPT Pocket PC version 2.1.2 is compatible with Pocket PC mobile devices running Microsoft
Windows®Mobile 5.0/6.0, the 2.1.2 version is also designed with the Motorola MC70 users in mind. The
SoftIPT on the MC70 Handheld Mobile Computer enables integration features that are only available on
this device. We have customized some of the features on the SoftIPT that enables users to use the SoftIPT
on the MC70 much more efficiently.
Motorola MC70
The Motorola MC70 (shown right) is the first rugged
Enterprise Digital Assistant (EDA) that incorporates a
mobile phone, PDA, computer, scanner or imager into a
single compact lightweight device; setting a new standard in
enterprise productivity tools. In addition, the MC70 delivers
what mobile workers need to increase their efficiency and
productivity with a new integrated GPS capability. This new
enhancement will allow companies to track their field-based
employees and provide their workers with navigation
support to improve location-based productivity.
The MC70 combines WWAN/WLAN/WPAN anywhere
anytime voice and data communications, superior voice
functionality, and advanced data capture. The MC70 will
deliver everything mobile workers inside and outside the
enterprise walls need to increase efficiency and productivity
– from field workers reading meters and repairing kitchen
appliances to drivers delivering packages, hospital workers
checking lab results and medication orders, and more.

Special Customized Features
The following customized features are only available if the SoftIPT 2.1.2 for Pocket PC is installed on a
MC70:
•SoftIPT will start up automatically when the MC70 is turned on.
•When the green off hook button on the MC70 is pressed the dial tone is heard on the earpiece
speakers in front of the MC70.
•When the PDN button is pressed on the SoftIPT GUI the dial tone is heard on the back speakers
(i.e. speakerphone mode).
•Regardless of how the MC70 user initiated the call, the red on-hook button on the MC70 will always
terminate the call.
•Pressing the green off-hook button will bring the SoftIPT to the foreground regardless of the application
currently in the foreground.
•The “Shift-Lock” key that toggles the MC70 keypad between alpha and numeric will automatically enter
into “numeric mode” when the SoftIPT is the foreground application.
Hardware and Software
The SoftIPT customized features for the MC70 were tested on the following MC70 hardware models using
Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0, Windows mobile 5.0 with the Messaging and security feature pack OS
5.1.478 Build 15706.3.5.2
•MC7090 with QWERTY keyboard
•MC7090 with numeric keypad
•MC7094 with QWERTY keyboard
•MC7094 with numeric keypad
SoftIPT System Requirements
•The SoftIPT 2.1.2 Pocket PC version follows the same Strata CIX / MIPU / eManager requirements as
the currently release SoftIPT. Refer to the Strata CIX Programming Manual, Volume 1.

Installation
Install ActiveSync
Note Install ActiveSync if it is not already installed.
1. Download Activesync from the Microsoft website

2. Make sure ActiveSync is running before you install the SoftIPT 2.1 version.
Install the SoftIPT 2.1 Application
1. Download the SoftIPT 2.1 application
from Internet FYI that matches your
handheld device.
2. Run the Setup.exe
The Installation Software screen displays
(shown right). Click Yes and follow the
prompts.
3. After the installation, check your
handheld device to see if there are
additional steps to complete the
installation.

Receive and Answer Calls
Answering a Call
When an incoming call rings into the SoftIPT, the ringing is heard over the back speakers of the MC70 to
alert the user.
•Press the Green Off-Hook key on the MC70 or tap the ringing PDN on the SoftIPT to answer the call.
Making a Call
1. Press the Green key on the MC70, the SoftIPT will go Off-Hook (similar to picking up the handset on
an IP telephone). The user will hear dial-tone on the front earpiece of the MC70.
2. For Internal Users – Dial the extension of the party you wish to call.
3. For External Phone Numbers – Press “9” then, either the 7 digits or +1 and the 10 digit phone number.
Making a Speakerphone Call
1. Using the stylus, tap the “Speaker key” icon on the SoftIPT GUI.
Dial-tone is heard through the back speaker of the MC70.
2. For Internal Users – Dial the extension of the party you wish to call.
3. For External Phone Numbers – Press “9” then, either the 7 digits or +1 and the 10 digit phone number.
Ending a Phone Call
•Press the RED Off-Hook button on the MC70 keypad.
The RED “Off-Hook” button always terminates a call regardless of how the call was originally initiated.
Hold
Placing a call on Hold
1. While on a call, tap the Up Arrow button just below the digits.
2. Tap the Red Hold icon and the call is placed on hold.
3. Tap again to put the call on exclusive hold.
4. To take the call out of Hold, tap the PDN button next to the green LED.
Transfer a Call
1. While on a call, tap the Up Arrow button on the SoftIPT GUI just below the numeric digits.
2. Tap the Transfer button (icon with people).
3. Enter the destination digits and the called party begins ringing.
•For Blind-transfer, simply hang-up by pressing the RED On-hook button.
•For Supervised Transfer wait for the called party to pickup, announce the call and hang-up by
pressing the RED On-hook button.

Change Modes
Changing from “Handset” mode to “Speaker” mode and vice versa
•To move the call from Handset Mode to Speaker mode, simply tap the Speaker icon.
•To move the call from Speaker mode to Handset mode, simply press the GREEN Off-Hook button.
Volume Control
Raising or Lowering the Volume
•On the SoftIPT GUI, tap the Up Arrow button just below the dialing digits.
•Tap the Up Arrow of the rocker button to increase the volume.
•Tap the Down Arrow of the rocker button to decrease the volume.
Voice Mail
To Retrieve Voice Mail
The Envelope icon on the SoftIPT GUI is lit when there is new voice mail.
1. Tap the Envelope icon, the SoftIPT automatically dials the voice mail system.
2. Enter the password using the MC70 number pad or by tapping the digits on the SoftIPT GUI.
