Compatibility
This accessory kit is designed for the Ring of Fire fountains using propane (LP) that are encountering soot in
the water (the water turns black over time). Please contact Travis Industries if you have any questions
regarding this kit and to its use.
The filter is installed between the water pump and fountain heads, filtering the water while the fountain
operates. Our research has shown this filter to last approximately 35 hours of burn time per filter.

• If the fountain is in a location where it may freeze, drain the filter of water when you “winterize” your
fountain.
Installation
1. Gain access to the underside of the fountain (this may require removal of the fountain from the pedestal). Make
sure the fountain is secure before proceeding.
2. Remove the spray head, inner screen and outer screen from the top of the fountain. Remove the water from
the fountain tank. Remove and discard the tube that runs from the water pump to the spray ring.

3. The illustration below shows the location of the holes used to route the water line to the filter (note: these holes
are used with flex line and the location need not be exact). Mark these holes with a center punch and drill two
7/8” diameter holes (HINT: before drilling, place a cloth or other item on both sides of the fountain tank to catch
the aluminum shavings). Remove all debris and de-burr the holes.

5. Route the 20” section of tubing from the right-side fitting (viewed from within the fountain tank) to the water
pump. Use a hose clamp to secure the tubing to the fitting (a hose clamp is not required on the water pump).
Connect the 20”

6. Route one of the 30” lengths of tubing from the spray ring to the left side fitting (see the illustrations below).
Use hose clamps to secure both ends. If the hose is kinked you may need to re-position the spray ring. To do
this, cut the lock-ties holding the spray ring in place, rotate it until the tube is routed correctly, and re-secure
using the included lock-ties.
Note the routing of the
tube (route it under
the burner - make
sure it doesn’t kink).

ring in place (if

7. Determine a location for the filter assembly. It may be laid flat or vertical. We recommend placing it within 30”
of the fittings installed in the fountain tank (it may be up to 5’ away – but fountain performance may suffer). We
recommend placing it on its side near the base of the fountain.
8. Attach the tubing included with this kit to the two fittings. Secure with the hose clamps.
9. Route the tubing to the filter. Remove any excess tubing. Attach to the filter and secure using hose clamps.

10. Adjust the water pump valve to full open following the directions below.
11. Replace the spray head, inner screen, and outer screen.
12. Replace the fountain to its normal position (if necessary) and turn on both the electrical and gas lines (if any gas
line was removed or altered, leak-test prior to proceeding).
13. Start the fountain and test operation.
Turn this valve so the handle is
parallel with the tube fitting.
This setting is “Full Open” and
will allow the pump to provide
the full pressure necessary to
push the water through the
filter.
