Collar Light that is built into the
dog collar!
Your Sport Junior consists of a
hand-held Transmitter that you
operate and a collar strap with an
attached Receiver that the dog
wears.The Sport JuniorTransmitter
is the ultimate in simplicity with a
separate button for each of three
functions. Use these buttons to:
1. Apply momentary stimulation
2. Apply continuous stimulation
3. Switch the Dog Collar light on
and off,
All functions operate up to a
quarter mile away.
Remotely Activated
Collar Safety Lights
Your Sport Junior is equipped
with remotely activated collar
lights. These lights are the perfect
safety feature allowing you to see
your dog during evening or early
morning walks or hunting. The
lights are easily activated using the
LIGHTbutton onthe transmitter
and can be activated at distances
up to 1/4 mile away.
Stimulation
You have your choice of seven
intensity levels for stimulation, and
you can change the level instantly,
right at the transmitter.
Youcontrolthetypeofstimulation
used with the Junior.
Momentary stimulation
The duration of momentary
stimulation is pre-set in the
transmitter.
Continuous stimulation
You control the timing of the
continuous stimulation up to an
automatic time-out of 8 seconds.
Both the transmitter and the
receiver are battery powered
and come with batteries already
installed. The batteries are easily
replaced by you, and convenient
battery indicators will let you know
when replacement is needed.
TRANSMITTER
Battery Life
The replaceable battery in your
Transmitter will last for many
months. The Transmitter is not
designed to be “turned off ” when
not in use, because the only
time power is pulled from the
Transmitter is when you press a
button. See the section “Battery
Replacement” for instructions
on replacing the battery when
needed.
Controls:
The Transmitter has three buttons,
one dial, and an indicator light next
to the dial.
Buttons:
• Bottom button: Press for
momentary stimulation*
• Middle button: Press for
continuous stimulation**
• Topbutton:Pressoncetoswitch
Dog Collar Light on, once to
switch off. (To save battery life,
leave the Dog Collar Light off
when not needed.)
* Momentary stimulation – The
duration of momentary stimulation
is pre-set in the transmitter.
Momentary stays on only very
briey no matter how long the
transmitter button is pressed.
**Continuous stimulation –
You control the timing of the
continuous stimulation up to an
automatic time-out of 8 seconds.
Continuous stays on as long as the
transmitter button is pressed up to
the 8 second time-out. In normal
use the time-out is never reached
since corrections are far shorter
than 8 seconds. By removing
your nger from the button the
stimulation is stopped immediately.
You can also tap the continuous
button repeatedly for a series of
corrections.
Dial:
• Line the dial number up with
the indicator light to determine
intensity level.
• Intensitylevels:1⁄2through6for
a total of seven levels.
• Position 1⁄2 is the lowest,
intensity increases with each
increase in dial number.
The training guide and training
DVD give more information on
what intensity level to use for
different training situations.
Indicator light:
When a Transmitter button is
pressed the light will:
• Glow red steadily when the
battery is good.
• Blinkrapidlywhenthebatteryis
dead and must be replaced.
See “Battery Replacement”
for replacement instructions.
Other Transmitter
Features
Antenna:
The Sport Junior has a xed,
integrated antenna that cannot fall
off and does not need tightening or
any maintenance.
Lanyard loop:
Clip your Sport Junior lanyard
(supplied) to this loop if desired.
RECEIVER
Your Sport Junior Receiver is
waterproof.
Battery Life
The replaceable battery in your
Sport Junior Receiver will give
you 600-700 hours of “on” time
(the hours that the Receiver is
switched on). Performance will be
less in ext r e mely c o ld weather.
The use of the Remotely Activated
Collar Light will reduce your battery
life somewhat, as will frequent use
of electrical stimulation. See the
section “Battery Replacement”
for instructions on replacing the
battery when needed.
For best battery life, always turn
the Receiver off when you take it
off the dog.
Collar Strap
Insert the collar strap through the
two collar strap retaining loops that
are built into the Receiver. Position
the buckle about 3 to 6 inches from
the Receiver, depending on your
dog’s neck size. Note: If the strap
is too long for your dog, you can
cut off the excess but leave it long
enough that there will be at least
4 inches of free strap extending
beyond the D ring.
Keep the collar and transmitter conveniently
together when not in use by running the
collar strap through the lanyard loop.
Contact Points
Your Sport Junior comes with
our patented insulated stainless
steel contact points already
installed. Check the contact points
occasionally for tightness, and
tighten rmly by hand if they
become loose.
YourSport Juniorissuppliedwith
“long” style contact points. These
are best for all coat types. If you
prefer “short” contact points for a
dog with very short hair, they are
available as an accessory directly
from our Customer Service
department.
Switching the Receiver
On and Off
• Press the On/Off button once
to switch the unit on so that
it can receive signals from the
Transmitter. (You will hear a
conrming double beep and
both the green status light and
the bright red collar lights will

• Pressagaintoswitchtheunitoff.
(Youwillhearaconrminglong
tone and both the green status
light and the bright red collar
lightswillashbriey.)
Switch the unit off whenever not in
use to save battery life.
Indicator Light
• Flashing twice every 5 seconds
– Unit is switched on
• Lightisoncontinuously
– Transmission is occurring
This light is green when the battery
is fully charged, yellow when the
battery is partially depleted, and
red when the battery needs to be
changed. If the light does not light
at all, the receiver battery is totally
dead.
FITTING THE
COLLAR ON
THE DOG
Place the receiver on the underside
of the dog’s neck with the Dog
Collar Light facing forward so you
can see it. This also positions the
internal antenna for best range.
Place the receiver fairly high on the
dog’s neck (closer to his ears than
his shoulders) and tighten the strap
snugly (tighter than your dog’s
regular i.d. collar). Always run the
free end of the collar strap through
the D ring.
Tighten the buckle by holding it
with two ngers as you pull the
strap snug. Remote training collars
must be buckled quite snugly to
ensure consistent contact and
reliable stimulation. Do not put
anyngersunderthestrapasyou
tighten it.
Please note that Remote Trainers
are not designed to be worn
continuously by a dog. To prevent
irritation caused by rubbing,remove
the collar for at least eight hours
out of every 24-hour period.
RANGE
Your Sport Junior has a range
of up to one quarter mile in at
openterrain.Alwayskeepngers
off the antenna when transmitting,
or you’ll restrict your range
considerably. For better range hold
a Transmitter away from your body
when transmitting; for maximum
range hold it overhead.
MIX AND MATCH
FEATURE
Many Tri-Tronics remote trainers,
including the Sport Junior, can
be set to operate a different
Tri-Tronics transmitter or receiver
than the one they are sold with.
Because of this Tri-Tronics mix and
match feature, you can combine
your Sport Junior Transmitter or
Receiver with a differentTri-Tronics
receiver or transmitter style.
Tri-Tronics manufactures two re-
ceiver styles and several transmitter
styles.
To match the new part with
your Sport Junior Transmitter or
Receiver and create a combination
system, follow the easy directions
for “eld marrying” on our web
site or available with the new part
when purchased. The procedure
takes less than 10 seconds and no
tools are required.
By creating a combined system,
you can add such features as
more range, additional stimulation
choices, higher stimulation in-
tensities, rechargeable batteries,
or a fully waterproof transmitter.
Depending on your training needs
you might nd a combination
system helpful in your remote
training. Please contact our
Customer Service Department for
more details.
BATTERY
REPLACEMENT
One small Phillips head screwdriver
is needed to remove battery
covers on both the Transmitter
and Receiver
Transmitter
Uses one 9-volt alkaline battery
Remove the single screw on the
back of the transmitter and remove
the battery cover. Remove old
battery and install a new battery,
matching polarity. Be sure your
new battery is the same length as
the one you removed. Do not force
a battery into the compartment.
Press a Transmitter button before
replacing cover. If indicator light
does not light, you probably have
the battery in backwards; turn it
around and verify function again.
Replace battery cover, making sure
the gasket is in place, and tighten
screw.
Receiver
Uses one 3.0 volt type “CR2”
lithium battery
Remove strap from component
case. Unscrew the 2 screws on
the bottom of the case, alternating
between screws, until the two
halves of the component case can
be separated. Remove the old
battery and install a new battery,
matching polarity. Press the On/Off
button before replacing cover. If
unit does not turn on,you probably
have the battery in backwards;
turn it around and verify function
again. Replace battery cover gently,
making sure the gasket is in place,
and tighten screws, alternating
between screws. Replace strap.
CARE AND CLEANING
OF THE SPORT JUNIOR
• Check contact points regularly
for tightness, dirt or damage.
• If the Receiver has been used
in saltwater or brackish water
clean it with clean drinking
water.
• For best battery life, do not
store your Remote Trainer in
very warm areas such as the
dashboard of a closed vehicle or
in extremely cold areas.
RADIO SIGNAL ISSUES
Modern microprocessor tech-
nology virtually eliminates the
possibility that your unit could be
unintentionally set off by someone
else with a Tri-Tronics product.
