Surge Suppressors
DataShielddata/communicationlinesurgesuppressors are designedtoprotect

DataShield surge suppressors described here protect virtually any
networkedequipmentusing
10 baseT, 10base-2 and 10base5Ethernet,Token
Ring, RS232, RS422/423/485, dial-up modems, fax, T-1 lines and most other
communicationinterfaces.
Installation
To install theDataShield surgesuppressor,follow thesesteps:
1. Makesurethecomputer,networkdeviceorotherequipmentislogged OFF the
network(if applicable).
Turn OFFpower to the equipment.
2. Disconnect thecablefrom the equipmenttobeprotected.

3. ConnecttheDataShield surgesuppressordirectlyto the equipment.
4. Attachthegreenground wire onthesurgesuppressordirectlytotheprotected
equipment'schassis: (Datashieldsurgesuppressors
with "D styleconnectorsdo
notprovideorrequire
this externalgrounding).
5. Reconnect thecable to the DataShieldsurgesuppressor.
NOTE!
The DataShield surgesuppressormust be properly grounded and positioned as doseas
possibleto the equipment to
be protected. For bestresults,it is required that the lengthof
the signal
line and ground wire (if equipped) between the surge suppressor and the
protectedequipment
be kept as short as possible,not to exceed 12 inches (12"). It is best to
install the surgesuppressor directly to the equipment, as noted above.
NOTE!
AsingleDataShieldsurgesuppressorisequivalenttoapproximately three feet(3')
of typicaldata communidtion cable.
ACAUTIONI
When properly installed, the DataShield surgesuppressor will protect against surges on
the dataline portion of your installation. Additional AC surge suppression/power
protectionintheformof anISOBARmsurgesuppressor or Tripp Lite UPSsystemisstrongly
