Warm the MilkHub Heat Detectors
For best adhesion the MilkHub Heat Detectors should be applied
at about 35 C
• In cold weather they can be warmed to this temperature by
keeping them inside your overalls
• A chilly bin with a warm hot water bottle wrapped in a
towel, or a wheat bag, can also be used to warm them
• Do not overheat as this overactivates the adhesive and
makes application more dicult
Select the correct position
Placing the MilkHub Heat Detector in the correct position is
important for best results
• Position over the centre of backbone
• Position just to the rear of the hips by approximately one
hand width
• Ensure the position is not sloping forwards. If it is, the Heat
Detector may not get rubbed suciently. Adjust the position
forward or backward slightly to ensure it is at or
sloping backward
Prepare the position correctly
The MilkHub Heat Detector is designed to stick to clean, dry,
rmly attached cow hair
• Remove any loose hair by hand
• Wipe o any dirt, dust or excess moisture with a towel
• If the area is excessively dirty brush with a curry comb
• No need to clip or shave the area
Spray on tack coat
Spraying the prepared position with a tack coat is recommended for optimum adhesion, particularly in damp conditions
• Use 3M77 spray (available from Tru-Test 0800 6455 482)
• Apply a thin layer of spray
• Wait to tack for a minimum of 1 and maximum of 10 minutes
• Rotary - spray at entry and apply the MilkHub Heat Detectors at exit
• Herringbone - work by spraying along the row rst and then returning again to apply the MilkHub Heat Detectors

Position Correctly
• Remove the MilkHub Heat Detector from its backing
• Place on the prepared position over the centre of the
backbone
• Ensure the direction arrows are pointing towards
the head
• Ensure it is not in a dip or hollow in the spine
Apply Correctly
• Press down rmly with nger tips over the whole area of
the MilkHub Heat Detector to ensure the glue sticks
• Pay particular attention to ensure the edges are rmly
stuck down
Some Don’ts
Don’t apply over tail paint or use over pour on drenches
Don’t brush or wipe the application location excessively
Don’t apply over another MilkHub Heat Detector
Don’t use any other type of glue
Don’t apply in a hollow or sloping forwards
Don’t overheat the patches
Don’t clip or shave the area

For visual heat detection, when cows have been mounted the detector’s rub surface is rubbed by friction.
With each mount the MilkHub Heat Detector will be more fully scratched.
Notes
Heat Detectors can be used for pre-mating heat detection. MilkHub Heat Detectors are designed for both automatic and
visual identication of cows on heat. Automatic heat detection requires the Tru-Test MilkHub Heat Scanner.
MilkHub Heat Detectors are intended as an aid for detecting heat. Good observation is also required to conrm heat.
The 3M glue used will not irritate or cause skin infections.
