1General Information
Thesefloorcleaning machinesaredesigned forthe
scrubbing and polishing ofhardfloorsand/or
shampooing ofcarpetsinindoorareas. Theyshould
not be used inoutdoorareasorwhereexcessive
moistureispresent.
The following instructionscontainimportant
information about the machinesand safetyadvicefor
the operator.
NOTE -Toprotect the machine frompossible
damage during transit, the machine baseand handle
arepacked seperately. Ensurethat bothitemsare
present and followthe simpleassemblyinstructionsto
bring the machine intoservice.
Equipment must be operated, serviced and
maintained inaccordancewiththe manufacturer’s
instructions.
Ifin doubtcontactthesupplier ofyourmachine.
Theseinstructionsarevalidforthe following models.

1.1ImportantSafetyAdvice
When using electricalequipment basicsafety
precautionsshouldbe followed including the
following.
•Read all instructionscarefullybeforeuse.
•Keep children and unauthorised personsawayfrom
the machine when inuse.
•Do not leavethe machine connected tothe
electricitysupplywhen not inuse, alwaysremove
the plug fromthe socket-outlet.
•Switchoff the machine beforeremoving the plug.
•When unplugging pull the plug, not the supplycord.
•Keep the powersupplycordclearofmoving parts.
During operation hazardmayoccurwhen running
the machine overthe powersupplycord.
•Do not operatethe machine withadamaged
supplycordorplug, orafterthe machine
malfunctionsorisdamaged inanyway. Contact an
authorised ServiceAgent forrepairoradjustment.
•The plug ofthe powersupplycordmust be
removed fromthe socket-outlet before
commencing cleaning ofthe machine or
undertaking maintenanceoperations.
•The powersupplycordistobe regularlyinspected
forsignsofdamage. Ifthe powersupplycordis
damaged, it hastobe replaced.
•Do not usewherehazardousdust ispresent.
•Do not useinan explosiveatmosphere.
•Takecarewhen using amachine nearthe top of
stairstoavoidoverbalancing.
1.2Guidelines fortheoperator
•Operatorsmust be fullytrained inthe useofthe
machine inaccordancewiththeseinstructions, able
toperformusermaintenanceand the correct
selection ofaccessories, i.e. brushesand padsetc.
•Operatorsshouldbe physicallycapableto
manoeuvre, transport and operatethe machines.
•Operatorsshouldbe abletorecogniseunusual
operation ofthe machine and report anyproblems.
•Let the machine do the work. Gripthe handleas
lightlyaspossible.
•Stand withfeet slightlyapart tomaintaingood
balance. Avoidtwisting the bodymorethan 45
degrees.
•Wearsuitablefootweartoavoidslipping.
•Wearsuitableclothing tokeep dry and warm.
•Wherepossibleimplement job rotation and
adequaterest periodstoavoidcontinuoususe
ofthe samemuscles.
•Do not smokewhen using the machine.
•CAUTION -Thismachine isfordry useonlyand
shouldnot be used orstored outdoorsinwet
conditions.
1.3Transporting themachine
CAUTION-THISMACHINEISHEAVY
Do notattemptto lift themachinewithout
assistance. Incorrect lifting techniquesmayresult in
personalinjury.
When transporting the machine the handleshouldbe
locked inthe upright position.
1.4Electrical connection
Beforeconnecting the machine tothe powersupply,
check that yoursupplyvoltage correspondswiththat
marked on the rating labelon the handleofthe
machine.
The supplycordisfitted withanon-rewireableplug
containing a13 ampfuse. Shouldthe fuserequire
replacement it must onlybe replaced bya13 amp
fuseconforming toBS1362, and the fusecover must
be refitted. Ifthe fusecoverislost the plug must not
be used until the correct replacement coverisfitted.
IMPORTANT -Ifthe supplycordisdamaged, it must
onlybe replaced byaspecialcordavailablefromthe
manufactureroran authorised serviceagent.

2Preparing foruse
2.1Fitting thehandle
1.Carefullyremovethe machine baseand handle
fromtheirrespectivepackaging.
2.Check that the following itemsarepresent with
the baseand removethemfromtheirtransit
position.
M8x70 Hex.Hd. bolt (3)
M8NylocHex. nut (3)
M8Plainwasher(6)
13mm A/F Spanner(2)
3.Takehandleand check that ‘O’ringson either
side ofthe knucklepivot areseated intheir
grooves, and that the datummark on the pivot
gearisaligned withthe handletube. Ifthisisnot
the case, raisethe handleadjustment leverand
rotatethe pivot gearuntil the datummark isin
line withthe handletube, and releasethe
adjustment lever.
4.Withthe handleheldverticallyand cablewinder
tothe rear, lowerpivot between the raised flanges
on the machine base.
5.Align holesinpivot withthoseon baseand fit the
three M8bolts, washersand nuts, and tighten
using the spannerssupplied (Fig.1).
6.Connect supplylead fromhandletosocket on
motorhousing.
3Controls
The operating controlsforall modelsarelocated on
the handle(Fig. 2).
1-Switch trigger, left hand
Used toswitchmotorONand OFF. Can onlybe
operated withhandleinworking position, and ifleft
hand interlock button (2)haspreviouslybeen
depressed.
2-Interlock button, left hand
Thismust be depressed initiallytoenableleft hand
switchtriggertoswitchmotoron.
3-Switch trigger, righthand
Used toswitchmotorONand OFF. Can onlybe
operated withhandleinworking position, and if
right hand interlock button (4)haspreviouslybeen
depressed.
4-Interlock button, righthand
Thismust be depressed initiallytoenableright
hand switchtriggertoswitchmotoron.
5-Handleadjustmentlever
Used toadjust handletocomfortableworking
height. Noteforsafetyreasonsthe machine
cannot be operated unless the handleismoved to
aworking height.
6-Solution feed lever
Operatesflowvalveinsolution tank(iffitted).
-Pull levertoreleasesolution.
-Releaselevertostop flow.
7-Socketconnector
Connection point forvacuumunit lead.
Drive plate
Attachment point forbrushordrivediscand pad.
Cablewinder
Used toholdsupplycordinplaceon handlewhen
machine isnot inuse. Can be turned toenable
quick releaseofcord.
Motoroverload cut-out
Protectsmotorfromoverload and possible
damage. The cut-out will reset automaticallywhen
cooled sufficiently, enabling the motortorestart.
Neon indicator (on handle)
Lightswhen the machine isconnected tothe
powersupply.
3.1Fitting abrush ordrive disc
Alwaysensuremachine isunplugged beforefitting or
removing parts.
•Adjust handletothe fullyupright position.
•Pull handledownuntil it restson the floorand the
brushguardisraised.
•Fit the brush/drivediscontothe driveplateand
rotateit anti-clockwiseuntil secure.
•Returnmachine toitsnormalupright position in
readiness forstarting.
3.2Adjusting thehandleheight
Select the most comfortablehandleheight using the
adjustment leveraspreviouslydescribed (see
Controls)and lock inposition.
4Operation
The normalmovement ofamachine inuseisfrom
side toside across the floor. Thisisachieved
automaticallybyraising orlowering the handlewhilst
it isengaged inthe normalworking position.
Lowering the handletherebyincreasing the pressure
at the rearofthe brush/drivedisc, movesthe
machine tothe left. Raising the handleincreasing the
pressureon the front ofthe brush/drivediscmoves
the machine tothe right.
Effectivecleaning and polishing isachieved by
moving the machine inabackwardsdirection.
Do not leavethe machine standing on abrushorpad
when not inuse.
4.1Starting themachine
•Fullyunwind the supplycordfromthe handleand
plug intoaconvenient socket outlet. The neon
indicatoron the handleshouldlight showing that
powerisavailable.
•Withthe handleset at aconvenient working height
and withbothleft and right handson the handle,
depress bothinterlock buttonswiththe thumbsand
squeezebothswitchtriggerstostart the machine
(Fig.3).

•Oncethe machine hasstarted the interlock buttons
shouldbe released.
•Tostop the machine releasebothswitchtriggers.
4.2Orbis452/400 dual speed
The speed selectorswitchon the dualspeed modelis
located on the motorhousing. Ensuremachine is
switched off beforechanging the speed setting.
4.3Polishing
•Fit polishing brushordrivediscand pad suitablefor
the speed ofthe machine and the surfacetobe
polished. (see Accessories).
•Applypolishtothe floorinaccordancewiththe
manufacturersinstructions.
•Do not keep the machine rotating on one spot for
morethan 3seconds, asthiscouldcause
overheating and damage the floorsurface.
4.4Scrubbing and Shampooing
•Forscrubbing orshampooing the solution tankmust
be fitted asdescribed (see Fitting thesolution
tank).
•Fit abrushordrivediscand pad suitableforthe
surfacetobe cleaned. (see Accessories).
•WARNING -Thisappliance has been designed
foruse with thebrushes specified bythe
manufacturer. Thefitting ofother brushes may
affectitssafety.
•Fill the solution tankwithwaterand an appropriate
measureofdetergent.
•IMPORTANT -Useonlycleaning agentssuitable
forautomaticmachinesi.e. lowfoaming, and follow
the chemicalmanufactuers’directionsregarding
use, handling, disposaland healthand safety
provisions.
•Beforestarting the machine releasealiberal
amount ofcleaning solution fromthe tanktothe
floor. The flowofsolution fromthe tankiscontrolled
bymoving the left hand lever. Releasing the lever
stopsthe flow.
•Proceed tooperatethe machine inthe normal
manner, releasing morecleaning solution fromtime
totimeasrequired.
•Do not keep the machine rotating on one spot for
morethan 3seconds, asthiscouldcause
overheating and damage the floorsurface.
•Dirtywatershouldnot be allowed toaccumulateon
the floor, it shouldbe removed toprevent dirt from
settling. Wesuggest using asuction dryerforthis
purpose.
•When scrubbing/shampooing iscomplete, unplug
the machine fromthe powersupply, emptythe
solution tankand clean and dry the machine.
•IMPORTANT -Disposeofunused cleaning solution
inaccordancewiththe manufacturer’sdirections.
4.5Fitting thesolution tank
NOTE- The solution tankissupplied asan accessory
item, completewithattachmentsand fitting
instructions.
•Movethe handletothe upright position and clamp
the tanksupport bracket tothe handletube inthe
specified position (Fig.4). (Refertothe instructions
supplied withthe tank).
•Takethe solution tankand pass the ring on the tank
chainoverthe left hand operating leverand locate
the ring inthe inside slot on the top ofthe lever.
Rest the solution tankon the support bracket with
the handletube inthe grooveon the back ofthe
tank.
•Tosecurethe tankinposition, engage the locking
baron the back ofthe tank.
•Adjust the lengthofthe chainbymeansofthe
screwand nut adjustertoensurethereisno tension
on the chainwhen the flowcontrolleverisnot being
used.
•Takethe plastictube supplied and pushrigidend of
tube intothe connectoron the underside ofthe
solution tank, and the otherend ontothe tube at the
rearofthe motorhousing. The tankconnectorisof
the sealed lock-intype oncethe tube isconnected.
Torelease, press downon the orange collarofthe
connectorwiththe fingertipsand pull out tube.
4.6Removing thesolution tank
•Pull off plastictube frommachine base.
•Raiselocking baron back oftank.
•Lift off tankand detachchainring fromlever.
4.7Thevacuumunit
NOTE- The vacuumunit and vacuumskirt are
supplied asaccessory items, completewith
attachmentsand fitting instructions.The vacuumunit
combined withthe vacuumskirt providesfull dust
control, eliminating the need topre-dust orpost dust
the floor. The unit isdesigned tofit readilytoall Orbis
models.
IMPORTANT-ThevacuumunitisNOTsuitable
foranyform ofwetcleaning.
4.8Fitting thevacuumskirt
•Unplug and laythe machine downwiththe
handlebarresting on the floor. Removethe brushor
drivedisc.
•Stretchand fit the rubberbufferaround the brush
guard.
•The flexiblesection ofthe skirt hasaspecialspring
sewnintothe fabric. Fit thisspring section intothe
grooveinthe rubberbuffer.
•The spring isareasonablytight fit toprevent
accidentalmovement inuseand thereforemust be
pulled ontothe bufferbystretching.
•Withthe skirt on the bufferit can be moved inits
groovetobring the hoseconnectortothe rear,
ensuring the basemoulding liesinthe cut-out

provided inthe outerring ofthe skirt, enabling free
movement when inuse(Fig.5).
4.9Fitting thevacuumunit
•Stand machine upright, and clampthe vacuumunit
support bracket tothe handletube inthe specified
position. (Refertothe instructionssupplied withthe
unit).
•Rest the vacuumunit on the support bracket with
the controlswitchtothe rear, and engage the
locking baron the back ofthe unit tosecureit in
position.
•Pushthe flexiblehoseon tothe vacuumunit and
skirt.
•Plug the electricallead fromthe vacuumunit into
the socket situated on the left side ofthe handle
moulding.
•The machine isnowreadyforuse. The switch
controlling the vacuumunit islocated on the back of
the unit. The OFF position ismarked O.
4.10 Using thevacuumunit
IMPORTANT-Formaximumsuction thesliding
shutter on thetop oftheunitmustbeclosed.
•Dust collected bythe unit iscontained withinthe
filterbag located behind the front cover.
•Toreplacethe filterbag, switchoff vacuumunit,
releasefront covercatchand lift off cover.
•Removeand disposeofused bag. Fit newbag
and replacefront cover.
5. Storage
Alwaysunplug and wipe downand dry the machine
afteruse. The machine shouldnormallybe stored
withthe handleinthe fullyupright position.
Wrap supplycordaround the handlebarand cable
winderensuring that the plug isnot trailing on the
floor. Storethe machine inadry indoorarea only.
Neverstorethe machine withapad fitted asthis
causesdistortion, and resultsininstabilityduring
operation.
6. Maintenance
WARNING -Before undertaking maintenance
operationsoradjustmentsswitch off machine
and unplug fromtheelectricitysupply.
The machine requiresminimummaintenanceapart
fromthe following checksbythe operator.
•Supplycord -Regularlyinspect sheath, plug and
cordanchorage fordamage orlooseconnection.
•Solution tank -Check waterflow, ifrestricted
inspect hosesand tubesforblockage orkinks.
Dismantlecontrolvalvetoclean ifnecessary.
Check switchinterlock forcorrect operation.
•Vacuumunit -All dust bagsmust be changed
regularlyand hosesand connectorschecked for
blockage toavoidunsatisfactory results.
•Motoroverload cut-out -All machinesarefitted
withan automaticreset motoroverload cut-out.
The cut-out will operatetoprotect the motorfrom
overheating byswitching the machine off when
thereisexcessivefriction/resistancetothe
cleaning head on the floor. Thisisusuallycaused
bythe stickiness ofthe pad orfloor. Turnthe
cleaning pad overorifbothsidesaredirty
replacewithaclean pad. It isnot possibleto
obtainagood finishon the floorusing adirtypad.
Shouldthe cut-out operateit will reset
automaticallywhen the motorhascooled
sufficiently, usuallyafter15 -30 mins.
IMPORTANT -Shouldthe machine fail tooperate
contact the supplierfromwhomyou purchased the
machine.
7After sales service
Shouldyou requireaftersalesservicepleasecontact
the supplierfromwhomyou purchased the
machine,who will arrange service. Repairsand
servicing ofTruvoxproductsshouldonlybe
performed bytrained staff. Improperrepairscan
causeconsiderabledangerstothe user.
8Guarantee
Yourproduct isguaranteed fortwoyearsfromthe
dateofpurchase, orhirepurchase, against defectsin
materialsorworkmanshipduring manufacture. Within
the guarantee period weundertaketorepairor
replacefree ofcharge tothe purchaser, anypart
found tobe defective, excluding brushes, drivediscs
and vacuumskirts.
No liabilityisaccepted fordamage caused by
accident, misuseorneglect, orthe fitting ofotherthan
genuine Truvoxparts. TruvoxInternationalLimited
