CORDED BROADBAND LED CURING LIGHT

WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS

Read all instructions before operating this unit. The manufacturer accepts no liability for any damage resulting from the improper use of

this unit and/or for any purpose other than those covered by these instructions.

• VALO GRAND Corded curing light emits high intensity light very similar to high intensity Quartz halogen lights and must only be used as indicated in

this manual.

• DO NOT look directly into the light output. Patient, clinician, and assistants should always wear amber UV eye protection when VALO GRAND

Corded curing light is in use.

• USE CAUTION when treating patients who suffer from adverse photobiological reactions or sensitivities, patients who are undergoing

chemotherapy treatment, or patients being treated with photosensitizing medication.

• DO NOT expose soft oral tissues at close proximity for more than 10 seconds in any mode. If longer curing time is required, use multiple shorter

curing cycles to avoid heating soft tissue, or use a dual-cure product.

• If using VALO GRAND Corded curing light in close proximity to the gingiva, DO NOT expose tissue for more than 20 seconds. If a 40-second cure

is needed, allow 10 seconds between two 20-second cures. If longer curing is required, consider a dual-cure product.

• The Xtra Power mode has a 2-second safety delay to limit heating during consecutive curing. At the end of the delay, beeping indicates unit is

ready for continued use.

• Take extra care to avoid directing light toward soft tissues.

• WARNING: No modication of this equipment is allowed.

• When disposing of electronic waste, (i.e. devices, chargers, batteries and power supplies), follow local waste and recycling guidelines.

General Information:

Indications for Use: The source of illumination for curing photo-activated dental restorative materials and adhesives.

VALO GRAND Corded curing light is an LED curing light for the polymerization of light cured dental materials. With its broadband spectrum, VALO

GRAND Corded curing light is designed to polymerize all light cured products in the wavelength range of 385-515nm per ISO 10650.

VALO GRAND Corded curing light has a medical grade, international power supply and is suitable for power outlets from 100 to 240 volts. The

handpiece is designed to rest in a standard dental unit bracket or can be custom mounted using the bracket included with the kit.

Instructions for Use:

1 - Connect the 9-volt power cord to the handpiece cord.

2 - Plug the power cord into any electrical outlet (100 -240 VAC). The timing lights will illuminate indicating the light is ready for use. The VALO

GRAND Corded curing light handpiece beeps twice when powering on.

3 - Place the VALO GRAND Corded curing light handpiece into a standard dental unit mounting bracket or accessory mounting bracket until ready to use.

4 - Prior to use, place barrier sleeve over VALO GRAND Corded curing light wand.

5 - Select the desired mode: VALO GRAND Corded curing light has 3 modes: Standard Power, High Power Plus, and Xtra Power. Each mode is

identied by the Mode/Status Light (green = Standard Power, orange = High Power Plus, ashing orange = Xtra Power). To change modes, hold

the Time/Mode Change button for 2 seconds and release. The Mode/Status light will change to the next mode.

NOTE: VALO GRAND Corded curing light is programmed to cycle from the Standard Power to the High Power Plus to the Xtra Power mode in

sequence. For example, to change from the Standard Power mode to the Xtra Power mode, it is necessary to cycle into the High Power Plus mode

and then to the Xtra Power mode.

VALO GRAND Corded curing light always stores its last used timing interval in each mode and will default back to that timing interval whenever the

modes are changed, or if the unit is unplugged and loses power.

SLEEP MODE: VALO GRAND Corded curing light will go into SLEEP mode after 1 hour of inactivity, as indicated by the green mode light blinking

slowly. Press any button to wake VALO GRAND Corded curing light and begin curing. VALO GRAND Corded curing light will automatically return to the

last setting used.

Precaution: Always wear amber colored safety glasses while the curing light is illuminated.

CURING MODE: Standard Power mode

USES: Curing of restorative materials with photo initiators.

TIMING INTERVALS: 5, 10, 15, 20 seconds.

• VALO GRAND Corded curing light defaults to this mode when it is INITIALLY powered on. The Status Light is green and the green Timing Lights

are solidly illuminated.

• To change timing intervals, quickly press the Time/Mode Button.

• Press the Power Button to cure. To stop curing prior to completion of a timing interval, press the Power Button again.

CURING MODE: High Power Plus mode

USES: Curing of restorative materials with photo initiators.

TIMING INTERVALS: 1, 2, 3, 4 seconds.

• From Standard Power mode, press and hold the Time/Mode Change Button for 2 seconds. The green Timing Lights will illuminate and ash. The

Status Light will illuminate as a solid orange light, indicating High Power Plus mode.A two-second power tack is the most commonly used timing

interval in this mode.

• To change timing intervals, quickly press the Time/Mode Button.

• Press the Power Button to cure. To stop curing prior to the completion of a timing interval, press the Power Button again.

• To return to Standard Power mode, press and hold the Time/Mode Change Button for 2 seconds, this will cycle to Xtra Power Mode, then release,

hold for 2seconds, and release.The green light will be solid with solid green timing lights, indicating Standard mode.

CURING MODE: Xtra Power mode

USES: Curing of restorative materials with photo initiators.

TIMING INTERVAL: 3 seconds only (Note: there is a 2 second safety delay at the end of each curing cycle).

• From the Standard Power mode, press the Time/Mode Change Button for 2 seconds, release, press again for 2 seconds, and release. Three of

the green Timing Lights and the orange Status Light will illuminate and ash, indicating Xtra Power mode.

• Press the Power Button to cure. To stop curing prior to completion of a timing interval, press the Power Button again.

• To return to the Standard Power mode, press and hold the Time Button for 2 seconds.

WARNING: In Xtra Power mode, DO NOT expose soft tissue for more than 10 seconds. The Xtra Power mode has a 2-second safety delay to limit

heating during consecutive curing. At the end of the delay, beeping indicates unit is ready for continued used. If a longer cure is needed, allow 10

seconds between consecutive cures or consider a dual-cure product (composite or adhesive).

Note: If it is necessary to cure near soft tissue, cooling with an air stream is an option for keeping the area cooler.

Duty Cycle: The VALO GRAND Corded curing light is designed for short-term operation.At maximum ambient temperature (32°C) 1 minute ON

back-to-back cycling, 30 minutes OFF (cooling-off period).

Accessory Bracket Instructions

1- Bracket should be mounted to a at, oil-free surface.

2- Clean surface with rubbing alcohol.

3- Peel backing off of the bracket’s adhesive tape.

4- Position bracket so the handpiece lifts upward when removed. Press rmly into place.

Maintenance and Cleaning

VALO GRAND Corded curing light is a sealed unit with a hard surface and a scratch resistant glass lens.After each use, moisten a gauze or soft cloth

with an approved surface disinfectant and wipe the surface and lens.

Routinely check the lens for cured dental resins. If necessary, use a non-diamond dental instrument to carefully remove any adhered resin.

The barrier sleeve helps prevent cross contamination and helps keep dental composite material from adhering to the surface of the lens and wand body.

Light meters differ greatly and are designed for specic light guide tips and lenses. Ultradent recommends checking VALO GRAND Corded curing

light in Standard Power mode. NOTE: the true numeric output will be skewed due the inaccuracy of common light meters and the custom LED pack

VALO GRAND Corded curing light uses.

PRODUCT SAFETY WARNINGS:

• DO NOT autoclave.

• DO NOT immerse in any kind of ultrasonic bath, disinfectant, cleaning solutions, or any kind of liquid.

• PRECAUTION: This unit may be susceptible to strong magnetic or static electric elds, which could disrupt the programming. If you suspect this

has occurred, unplug the unit momentarily and then replug it into the outlet.

• DO NOT wipe down the VALO GRAND Corded curing light with caustic or abrasive cleaners. See lists of acceptable cleaners below:

• Abrasive Cleansers (e.g. – Comet Cleanser™*)

• Acetone or hydrocarbon based cleaners

• MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone)

• Birex®*

• Gluteraldehyde

• Quaternary Ammonium Chloride salt-based cleaners (except Cavicide)

• Cavicide1 solution or wipes

Troubleshooting Guide

If the solutions suggested below do not rectify the problem, please call Ultradent at 800.552.5512.

Outside the United States, call your Ultradent distributor or dental dealer.

Repairs are only to be performed by authorized service personnel. Ultradent to provide service personnel with documentation to perform repairs.

Problem Possible Solutions

Light will not turn on 1. Press the Time/Mode or either Power Button to wake from Power Save Mode.

2. Check that both cords are rmly connected together and to the electrical outlet.

3. Conrm power to the wall outlet.

Light does not stay on for desired time 1. Check Mode and Timing lights for correct time input.

2. Conrm all cord connections are fully seated.

3. Unplug and re-plug power cord into the electrical receptacle.

Light is not curing resins properly 1. Check lens for residual cured resins/composites. (see “Maintenance and Cleaning”)

2. Using proper amber UV eye protection, verify the LED lights are working.

3. Check power level with light meter. (See “Maintenance and Cleaning,”)

4. Check expiration date on curing resin.

5. Ensure proper technique is being followed (adhesive/composite) by manufacturer recommendations.

adaptor, operates with brown-out protection, and provides limited EMI, RF,

VALO GRAND Corded curing light uses electrical and electromagnetic energy

only for their internal functions. Therefore, any RF emissions are very low

and are not likely to cause interference in nearby electronic equipment.

The VALO GRAND Corded curing light is suitable for use in all

Mains power quality should be that of a typical residential, commercial,

The Globtek 9VDC medical grade adaptor that is supplied with the

VALO GRAND Corded curing light operates from mains ranging from

100VAC – 240VAC and is capable of limited brown out, EMI, and surge

protection.

If the VALO GRAND Corded curing light user requires continued

operations without mains interruption, or the mains in any particular

region of a country are considered bad due to continuous brown-out,

black-out, or excessively noisy power conditions, it is recommended

that the VALO GRAND Corded curing light be powered from an

uninterruptible power supply or the customer purchase a VALO GRAND

Corded curing light unit.

than the recommended separation distance calculated from the equation

The VALO GRAND Corded curing light is intended for use in an electromagnetic environment in which radiated RF disturbances are controlled. The user of

the VALO GRAND Corded curing light can help prevent electromagnetic interference by maintaining a minimum distance between portable and mobile RF

communications equipment (transmitters) and the VALO GRAND Corded curing light as recommended below, according to the maximum output power of the

communications equipment.

The VALO GRAND Corded curing light has been tested according to IEC 60601-1-2:2014 and passed under radiated eld strengths of 10 V/m between 80-

MHz to 2.5 GHz. The value of 3Vrms corresponds to V1 and the value 10 V/m corresponds to E1 in the formulas above.

For transmitters rated at a maximum output power not listed above, the recommended separation distance d in meters (m) can be estimated using the

equation applicable to the frequency of the transmitter, where P is the maximum output power rating of the transmitter in watts (W) according to the

transmitter manufacturer.

NOTE 1 At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the separation distance for the higher frequency range applies.
