Ultraplast MD19 User manual

ENG User’s Manual for MD19 Roof Box
STANDARD LOCK
Dear customer,
We are so pleased and honoured by your decision to buy our roof box. We hope you will find this
box useful and joy to use. However, it is of high importance that you read carefully this user’s
manual before fitting the roof box and follow these instructions during the assembly operations.
BEFORE FIITING THE ROOF BOX
This ULTRAPLAST MD 19 roof box is good for all the standard roof racks with the rails of the
following size: width : max 95 mm
height : 15 - 40 mm
First of all, attach a roof rack to the roof (follow the assembly instructions of the respective
manufacturer). For perfect stability, the distance between the rack rails should be the longest
possible. When used on a 5-door car with the rear door opening upwards, place the roof rack
the way it is possible to freely open the rear (trunk) door.
FITTING THE ROOF BOX
The roof box is equipped with a fit-on system which allows for fast and easy assembly with no need
for any extra tools.
Place the roof box parallel onto the roof rack and attach the fitting elements (follow the figure
below). The anchoring straps must be placed under the plate between the supplied U-shaped
anchor arms.
1. roof rack
2. roof box
3. locking bracket / U- anchor
4. plate
5. locking bolt nut
6. anchoring strap/belt

Tighten evenly the bolt nuts by hand at the torque of 2,0–2,5 Nm –there is no need to use any
wrenches or other tools. Make sure the bolt nuts are tightened evenly.
LOADING THE ROOF BOX
Make sure the maximum loading capacity of the car roof, as stated by the car
manufacturer, is never exceeded. When loading luggage into the roof box, make sure the
load is evenly spread within the box.
CAR ROOF LOADING CAPACITY CALCULATION:
Roof rack weight + Roof box weight + Load = max. 75 KG

CLOSING THE ROOF BOX WITH A STANDARD LOCK
MD19 roof box is equipped with two standard safety locks. Close the roof box by evenly tilting the
top cover so that the both locks click (check the locking visually from the front and check the safety
pin –see below). Do not use excessive power when closing and locking the roof box!
EUROLOCK Standard Lock

SECURING THE ROOF BOX
After closing MD19 roof box it is absolutely necessary to engage the safety pin by moving it upward.
Always check the safety after a long trip with the roof box. After driving 10 –30 km check whether
the box and rack are loaded appropriately, the safety pin engaged, the rack stable and the box
locked.
DISENGAGING AND OPENING THE ROOF BOX
Disengage the safety pin by turning it downward before opening the box. Then unlock the
locks, press the locks and by moving the top cover up you will open the roof box.
REMOVING THE ROOF BOX
Open the roof box and remove all the load. Loosen the bolt nuts and remove the U-anchors.
IMPORTANT!
Before every trip and after a reasonable number of kilometres covered, check whether the roof box
is tightly anchored to the roof rack, whether the box is locked, key pulled out of the lock and the
safety pin engaged. Insufficiently secured load or inappropriately anchored both the roof rack and
box may come loose and cause serious trouble and accidents. Please, for the sake of driving safely
with the roof box on the top, do take into account the external conditions –the strength and
direction of wind, weather conditions (snow, rain, wind), the height and weight of the vehicle and
changes in driving (side wind sensitivity, driving in bends, braking). Under any circumstances must
you not exceed the maximum loading capacity of the car roof, as defined by the manufacturer for
the given vehicle!

CAUTION: The weight of the roof rack, box and the load inside decreases the capacity weight of
the vehicle. The maximum speed when using the roof box must be adapted to the legal
requirements, but must not exceed 130 km/h under windless conditions. This maximum speed
must be reduced when there is headwind or crosswind by the speed of the winds. For maintaining
the roof box, use regular washing liquid which is free of alcohol, chlorine and ammoniac, since
those could cause damage to the box surface. The lock should be treated by silicon oil or lubricant
once a year.
Under no circumstances will the manufacturer be held responsible for or compensate any damage
or accidents which should incur as a result of failure to follow the instructions included in user’s
manual as well as a result of deliberate modification and conditioning of the elements, or of
utilising other than original spare parts and locks.
This roof box complies with the approved type and design for which the certificate of technical capability
of elements, equipment and accessories No. 1947, 4961-213/00 of Nov 11, 2000 has been issued by State
Transportation Authority of Ministry of Transport, Posts and Telecommunication of the Slovak Republic.
