Important Safety Instructions
When using your telephone equipment, basic
safety precautionsshould always be followed
to reducethe risk of fire, electric shock and

Base Unit Controls & Functions
DC IN 9V - Plugsmall connector of AC adaptor
into this socket. PlugAC adaptor into a standard
wall outlet to provide power for the Base Unit and
charging for the Handset.
TEL LINE - Plugone end of the Telephone Line
Cord into this jack. Plug the other end of the
Telephone Line Cord into a standard modular
telephone socket.
Base Antenna - Telescoping antenna provides
maximum rangewhen fully extended.
TIP (Tone/Pulse)Switch (forAustralian Model only)-
Selects either tone dialing or pulse dialing.
Charge LED - LED lights to indicate that the
Handset is charging.

Installing Your CT301
Selectingthe Installation Location
You should carefutlyselect the installation location
for freedom from excessive heat or humidity (as in
a kitchen or bathroom), andaway from sourcesof
electrical noise, (suchas motors or fluorescent
lighting). Providesufficient space to safely extend
the Base Unit antennafully, and conveniently
locatethe telephone near a standard 230/240
VACoutlet and telephone line socket.
The Base Unit of your CT301can sit on a desk, or
be mountedon a wall. When mountingthe Base
Unitonto the wall, be certain that there are no
electrical cables, pipes, or other items behind the
mountinglocation that could cause ahazard when
insertingscrews into the wall.
Usethe mounting templatefor determining where
to put the mountingscrews. To prevent possible
damage to the Base Unit, makesure the wall
material is capable of supporting the weight of the
Base Unit. Be sure to securely fasten the screws.
When you mountthe Base Unit on a wall, reverse
the Handset Retainerto keep the Handset hung
up onthe Base Unit.

Reversing the Handset Retainer
1. Removethe Handset Retainer from the Base
Unitby sliding it upward.
2. Flipthe Retainer over so the tab is facing up.
3. Slide the retainer back into the Base Unit.
NOTE: If you put the Retainer back into the
Base Unit incorrectly, it will jam, and you'll
need to pry it up with a screwdriver.
Connecting the AC Power
Connectthe AC power to the unit by pluggingthe
AC adaptor into the back of the Base Unit,and
into a standard 230/240 VACwall outlet. Make
sure to route the adaptor cord where it will not
create a trip hazard, or where it will not become
chafed and create fire or other electrical hazards.
Connecting the Telephone Line
Plugone end of the Telephone Line Cord into the
back of the Base Unit, and the other end into a
standard modular telephone socket.
Installing the Handset Antenna
Screwthe flexible antenna intothe top of the
Handset.
Installing the Battery Pack
1. Remove the battery compart-
ment cover on the rearof the
Handsetby sliding it down.
2. Connect the Ni-Cd (Nickel
Cadmium) battery pack by
plugging it into the socket at
the top of the batterycompart-
ment.
Note: The connector will fit
only oneway, and will require
only a minimal amount of
pressure to insert. The battery
cable plug must a~waysbe
installedwith the red lead up.

3. Placethe battery pack into the
batterycompartment.
4. Replacethe cover by sliding it
on. Makesure not to get the wires from the
battery pack caught in the cover.
Charging the Battery Pack
The rechargeable Ni-Cd battery pack included
with your CT301 needs to be charged for approxi-
mately 12-16hours before first use. Placethe
Handset in the cradle, and the CHARGE LED
should light, indicatingthe battery packis being
charged. After 12-16hours, your CT301 will be
ready to use.
CAUTION
If the unit is to be left unused for alongperiod
of time, remove thebatteries. Theyshould be
reinserted and fully charged every 3months.
Selecting Tone or Pulse Dialing
(Australian Model only)
You must set the TIP (Tone/Pulse)switch on the
rearside of the Base Unitto the proper setting. If
you do not know what type of dialing your tel-
ephone system provides, call your localtelephone
company for the information.
Secu rity Code
When you first place the Handset on the Base
Unitto chargethe battery pack, the Security Code
is automatically set to one of 65,536 codes.
Toresetthe Security Code, remove the battery
packfrom the Handset for morethan one minute.
Then reinstallthe battery pack and return the
Handsetto the Base Unit.The Security Codewill
automaticallybe set to a different Security Code.

Using Your CT301
Dialing a Number
To dial a number with your CT301, first remove
the Handset from the cradle. Next, pressthe
TALK button.The BATT LO LED willthen light.
Dialthe number normally, usingthe number
buttons on the Handset. When"donetalking, you
can press the TALK button again to hang up, or
simply placethe Handset back in the cradle.
Using the R (Redial) Button
The R button dials the last number (up to 32
digits) that you called. This feature is extremely
usefulwhen the number you called isbusy. To
use this feature, simply press the R button imme-
diately after pressingthe TALK buttonto select
the Talk mode. The last number called will then be
dialed again.
Note: If any button is pressed before the R
button, it willnot redial. The R button must be
pressed immediatelyafter selecting the Talk
modewith the TALK key.
Answering Incoming Calls
To answer an incomingcall when the Handset is
off the cradle, press the TALK button and use the
Handset in a normal manner.
Using the Auto Talk Function
When your CT301 is ringing with an incomingcall,
simply remove the Handset from the cradle to
answer the call; there's no need to press the
TALK button.
Using the Auto-Standby Function
When you havefinished with a call, placingthe
Handset back on the cradle automatically causes
the Handset to go into Standby mode, and hangs
upthe phone. There's no need to pressthe TALK
buttonto hang up.

Note: Ifyou don't place the Handset back on
the Base Unit,you need topress the TALK
button to hang up the phone.
Youmay find thatsometimespressing the
TALK button does not hang up thephone, and
the error tone will sound continuously. This may
occur during conversations under noisy condi-
tions. If this occurs, place the Handset back on
the Base Unit, or press the TALK button again
whileholding the Handset close to the Base
Unit.
The Battery Low LED
When the battery pack in the Handset is very Iow
and needs to be charged, the BATT LO LED will
blink on and off (accompanied by beep tones)
when in the Talk mode.When this occurs, com-
plete the call that you are making as rapidly as
possible, and return the Handset tothe cradle for
charging.
Using the Tone Button
(AustralianModel only)
If you have rotary (Pulse) telephone service, the
TONE button allows you to access a computer or
long distance service that responds only to Tone
signals.
1 Dialthe local number to the computer or calling
service with the TONE/PULSE switch in the P
\(pulse)position.
2 After you have reachedthe number, press the
*(TONE) button and continue to dial your access
code or any other numbers required.
Using the F (Flash) Function
The F (FLASH) button is used to send a timed
hook flash on the telephone line for accessing
telephone company services such as call waiting,
etc. To use this feature, simply press the F
(FLASH) button while in the Talk mode.

If your CT301 Cordless Telephone is not perform-
ing upto your expectations, please try these
simple steps. If you are still unable to resolve the
problems, contact UnidenCustomer Service at:
Australia(02)559-3100,NewZealand(09)273-8383,
during business hours, Monday through Friday.
The battery charge contacts on the Base Unit and
Handset should be cleaned once a month with a
clean dry cloth to ensure consistent trouble free
battery charging.
If the TALK button is notworking, make sure that
the Base Unit AC power cord is plugged intothe
wall outlet. Next, makesure that the battery pack
is properly installed in the Handset. If the AC
Power is properly appliedto the CT301, your
battery may be Iow.To confirm this, put the
Handset back in the cradle. Then lift it upagain
and pressthe TALK button. Ifthe BATT La LED
flashes,the battery needsto be recharged. Simply
putthe Handset inthe cradle for 12to 16 hours.
The Handset isautomatically rechargedwhenever
it's put in the cradle. However, it can lose its
charge if:
1. The Handset wasn't charge initiallyfor the
required 12to 16 hours.
2. The AC power cord becomes disconnected
from the wall outlet or the Base Unit.
3. The Ni-Cd battery pack is disconnected.
4. Electrical service to your home was
discontinued (storms, vacation, etc.).
If any of these situations occur, recharge.

Can't make or receive
calls. Check that the Base
Unit's telephone line
cord and AC power cord
are both plugged in. If
the power is on, and the
unit does not work, try
disconnecting the AC
adaptor for a few
minutes, and then
reconnecting it.

useful functions. The CT301has been designed
and manufactured to assure your personal safety.
Improper use can result in potential electrical
shock and fire hazards. Please carefully read all
safety and operating instructions before installa-
tion and use. Keep these instructions handy for
future reference. Pay special attention to all the
warningson the unit and in the Operating Guide.
Do not attempt to service this unit beyond that
which is described inthis guide.All service must
be done by a qualified technician.
It issmart to unplugall electrical appliances when
you know an electrical storm is approaching.
Lightningcan passthrough your household wiring
and damage any device connected to it. The
CT301 is noexception.
Note: Please do not attempt to unplug any appli-
ance during an electrical storm.
Range
The CT301 is designed to achieve the maximum
possible range by transmitting and receiving
according to the highest specifications. We have
ratedthis phoneto operate at a maximumdistance
with the qualification that the range depends upon
the environment in which the telephone is used.
Manyfactorslimitrange,anditwouldbe impossible
to include all the variables in our rating.The
"Maximum Range" rating of the CT301 is meant
to be used as a means of comparison against
other range claims.

Telephone Line Problems
If you are having trouble with your telephone
service, you must first disconnect the CT301 to
determine if it is the cause of your problem. If you
determine that it is the cause, you must leave it
disconnected until the trouble has been corrected.
Radio Interference
Radio interference may occasionally cause
buzzing and humming in your cordless Handset,
or clicking noises in the Base Unit.This interfer-
ence-fS"caused by external sources such as TV,
refrigerator,vacuum cleaner, fluorescent lighting,
or electrical storm. Your unit is NOT DEFECTIVE.
If these noises continue and aretoo distracting,
please check around your home to see what
appliances may be causing the problem. In
addition,we recommendthat the Base Unit not be
pluggedinto a circuit that also powers a major
appliancebecause of the potentialfor interfer-
ence. Be certain that the antenna on the Base Unit
isfully extended when needed.
More than One Cordless Telephone
Ifyou wishto use morethan onecordlesstele-
phonein your house, each phone must operate
on a differentchannel. The channel number is
located on your telephone, oron the box in which
is was packed.
