Inserting the US Cellular
UM 185 USB modem in
the Rocket Lid
Items Needed
1. Rocket with New Retrofitted Lid
2. Direct Connect Cable
3. USB Extension Cord
4. Polycarbonate Lid Insert
5. US Cellular UM 185 modem

Installing the US Cellular Modem
• On the US Cellular UM 185 modem, slide the lid until
it clicks into an open position and unfold the
USB connector to a 180 degree angle.
• Plug the USB extension cord
into the modem, as shown below.
• Turn the modem face down, and place into the cutout on the
polycarbonate lid insert. Then velcro into place.
• Plug in the Direct Connect Cable into the back of the
modem, draping the cord toward the USB connector,
as shown below.
NOTE: Do NOT velcro the cords to the modem,
doing so may damage the cords and/or modem.

• Open the Rocket Lid and slide out the Hinged Lid Support.
• Lay the opened Rocket down with the serial number and
ports on the label facing up, as shown below.
• Position the polycarbonate insert with attached modem
facedown into the lid as shown above with cornered foam
edges entering first.
• Close the Hinged Lid Support with both cables extending
through the center.
• Plug the direct connect cable into the Rocket and hand
tighten, as shown below.
• Plug the USB extension cord into the Rocket, as shown below.
• Tuck in both cables and close the Rocket Lid.
