About Caller Identification (Caller ID)
This product has a Caller ID with Call Waiting feature that works with service from your
local phone service provider.
Caller ID with Call Waiting lets you see who’s calling before you answer the phone, even
whenyou’re on another call.
You may need to change your phone service to use this feature. Contact your phone
service provider if:
• You have both Caller ID and Call Waiting, but as separate services (you may need
combined service)
• You have only Caller ID service, or only Call Waiting service
• You don’t subscribe to any Caller ID or Call Waiting services.
You can use this product with regular Caller ID service, and you can use this product’s
other features without subscribing to either Caller ID or combined Caller ID with Call Waiting
service.
There are fees for Caller ID services, and they may not be available in all areas.
This product can provide information only if both you and the caller are in areas offering
Caller ID service, and if both telephone companies use compatible equipment.

Before You Begin

Connecting Power to Base Unit
Choose a location for the Base near
an electrical outlet and a telephone
jack.
This phone requires a modular
telephone jack and a standard
electrical outlet (110v AC) not
controlled by a wall switch. Plug the
AC power adaptor into the electrical
outlet and the DC connector to the
jack on the bottom of the Base Unit.
Installation of Battery Pack in Handset
Setup
Followthesteps below:
1. Remove battery compartment
cover by pressing on the
indentation and sliding
downward.
2. Alignthetwoholesintheplug
with the socket pins, then
snaptheplug intoplace.
3. Placethe batterypack inthe
compartment,with the wires
inthe lowerleft corner, along
thebottomofthe pack.Angle
thetophalfofthepackinfirst,
underthe2claws.Thensnap
thelower portion ofthe pack
into place. Place the wires
under the guide, located
belowthe batterypack.

Charge the Battery Pack
The Handset should be charged initially for 12 hours. Afterwards, a maintenance charge of
at least 10 hours is sufficient. Maximum talk time on a full charge is approximately 5 hours.
Maximum standby time is 5 days. Look for the charging bull animation on the Handset as it
charges.

Check for Dial Tone
After the batteries are charged, connect the modular telephone cord between a live
phonejackandthejacklocatedonthe bottom of theBaseUnit.PickuptheHandsetand
press PHONE. You shouldhear adial tone.

Removable Face Plates
Your gz 2456 comes with additional Handset and Base Plates of variouscolors.You can
interchangethese platesto suit yourpersonal tastesand room decor.
Handset Face Plate
Carefullyremove theHandset faceplate byprying upfrom thenotch atthe bottomof the
plate. Re-attach bysnapping theupper portionoftheplateintopositionfirst,thensnapping
thelowerportion into position.
BaseFace Plates
Carefully remove the two Base plates by prying up from the notches located at the
bottom front and back edge of the plate. Align the new Base plates, making sure the
antenna passesthroughtheappropriateslot.Securetheplatesbysnappingitintoposition.

Handset Ringer Style/Battery Save
You can select from four traditional Handset ringer styles, five popular pre-programmed
polyphonic melodies, one user downloaded melody, or turn the ringer off and extend the
batterylife.
1Makesure theHandset is off.
2PressPROG to enter programmingmode.
3Press untilthe screen displays RINGER:and the currentsetting.
4PressSELECT.Thecurrent setting blinks, and you willhear a sampleof the ring.
5Press or toselect thedesired option .You willheara sample ofeach ring.

Temporary Tone Dialing
If you have dial pulse (rotary) service, you can change from dial pulse to touch tone
dialing during a call by pressing */Tone .This is useful if you need to send touch tone
signals for access to telephone banking or long-distanceservices.

Operating Range
This cordless telephone operates within the maximum power allowed by the Federal
CommunicationsCommission(FCC). Evenso, this Handsetand Base cancommunicate
overonlya certain distance—which can varywiththe locationsofthe Base andHandset,
theweather, and the construction ofyour homeor office. For best performance,keep the
Baseantennafully upright.
If you receive a call while you are out of range, the Handset might not ring — or if it
does ring,the call mightnot connect whenyou press PHONE . Move closerto the Base,
thenpress PHONE to answer the call.
If you move out of range during a phone conversation, you might hear noise or
interference. Toimprove reception,move closerto theBase.
Ifyoumoveoutofrangewithoutpressing OFF,yourphonewill beleft “offthehook.”

Caller ID Operation
About Call History
This phone assigns each incoming call a number from 1 to 90. The most recent call will
havethehighest number. Whenthememory is full,theoldest call informationisdeleted to
makeroomfor newincomingcall information.
Foreachcall that comesin,the screendisplaysthe following informationbetweenthe first
andsecond rings:
• Yourcaller’s name(15 lettersare sentby yourtelephone company).
• Thecaller’s area codeand telephone number.
• Thetime and dateof thecall.
• The repeat Tag ( **

*) in the upper right corner, indicating the party has called more
than once.
Note: When repeat Caller ID (CID) data arrives, the time and date information will
overwrite the old information, and is displayed during CID review.
Note: Press OFF at any time to exit call history.
Review Call History
The screen displays call information for about 15 seconds after it has been received
withoutpressing anykey.

Announce-Only Mode

The factory preset security code is 19.You can
designateany two digitalsecurity codeyou wish,
from10 to99.
• PresstheMENU key untilyou hear “Set Security
Code”.
• Press SELECTto hear thecurrentsecuritycode.
EverytimeyoupressSELECT,thecodeincreases
by1.HoldingSELECT increasesthe security codein incrementsof 10.The Base Unit
willdisplay thesecurity codeas youprogram it.
• PressTIME/SET to confirm your choice.Thevoiceprompt willsay:”Securitycode is
XX”.
• Press MENU to go to the next programming function, or press PLAY/STOP to exit

Set Audible Message Alert
• Thisfeatureprovidesa beepevery 10 secondsat
the Base Unit, alerting you to new, unplayed
messages.
• PressMENU until youhear“Setaudible message
alert”.
• Press SELECT.The voiceprompt will sayeither
ONor OFF.
• Select ON ifyouwantyour gz 2456tobeep every
10 seconds to alert you to any new messages;
selectOFF ifyou don’t.TheBaseUnitwilldisplay
On or OF (off) as you make your selection.

Set Base Ringer
• PressMENU until you hear “Set base ringer”.
• Press SELECT to toggle between ON and OFF.The Base Unit will display On or OF
(off)as you make your selection.
• PressTIME/SET to confirm your choice.The voiceprompt will say:“ Base ringer ison
(or off)”.
• Press MENU to advance to the next programming function, or press PLAY/STOP to
exitprogrammingmode.
Note:
TheBase Ringer setting does notaffectthe Handset ringer.
Set Number of Rings
• Your gz 2456 can answercalls after2 rings, 4 rings,6 rings,orTollSavermode.InToll
Saver mode,yourgz 2456 will answercallsafter 2 ringsonlyif there arenew, unplayed
messagesin its memory.Otherwise,it will answerafter 4 rings.Thisfeaturehelpsyou
avoid long distance charges when checking for messages from a remote location.
Therefore,usingTollSaver, ifyoucallyourgz 2456, and it doesn’t pickupbythe third
ring, hang up.There aren’t anynewmessagesforyouatthis time.
To Set the Number of Rings
• PressMENUuntilyouhear“Setnumberofrings”.

Set Day and Time
• Whenyoufirst power-up yourgz 2456 (orafter the BaseUnitexperiences a temporary
lossofpower),the MessageWindowwillflashCL, untiltheDayandTimeisprogramming.
• PressMENUuntilyou hear “ Set DayandTime”.
• Press SELECT until youhear the correct day ofthe week.
• Press TIME/SET toconfirmyourselection.The voiceprompt willannounce the hour.
• Press SELECT until youhear the correct hour.
• PressTIME/SET to confirmyourselection.Thevoiceprompt will announcetheminute.
• Press SELECT to adjust the minute setting. Holding SELECT increases the minute
settingin increment of10.
• Press TIME/SET toconfirm.The voiceprompt willrepeatthe correntDayandTime,as
programmedby you.
• Press MENU to advanceto the nextprogrammingfunction, or press PLAY/ STOP to
exitprogrammingmode.

ON/OFF Key
Thiskeyturns the answeringdeviceON andOFF.
• As youpress thiskey,thevoiceprompt will confirm
yourchoice :” AnsweringMachine ON (or OFF)”.
• The ON/OFF indicator glowswhen the answering
device is set to ON. It is recommened that you
leave your gz 2456 answering device in the ON
mode,unless youdonot wantittoanswerincoming
calls.
• Thiskeyhasnoeffectonthecordless phoneportion
of your gz 2456.
• Ifthe answering device isOFF, itcan beturnedon
remotely by calling in and allowing the line to ring

REC/MEMOKey
• This key is used to:
• Record your outgoing message. See Setting up your gz 2456 Digital Answering

• Recorda MEMO atthe BaseUnit.
To record a MEMO
• PressREC/MEMO.The voicepromptwill say“ N ow
recording”, followedby a beep.
• Beginspeaking.YourMEMOcanbeupto4minutes.
• Press PLAY/STOPwhen finished.
• Amemo mustbe longerthan 2 seconds.
PLAY/STOP Key (Playing Messages)
• Pressthis key to begin message playback. When
pressed,the voiceprompt will tell you thenumber
ofnewand old messagesstoredinmemory.Ifthere
are any new (unplayed) messages, the gz 2456
willplaythemand STOP.YoucanthenpressPLAY/
STOP againto review oldmessages.
• Pressthis key to STOP message playback.
Ifrecorda memo whenthereal time clockhasn’tbeen
set, replaying that memo, the day/time stamp will be
followedby “ Powerfailure”announcementforaalerting
user the stamp is not accuracy.
DELETEKey
• Press DELETE during playback of a message to
deletethatmessage.
• When the answering system is inactive, press and hold DELETE for more than 2
secondsto deleteall old( previouslyheard) messages.
