power on/off
Once a fully aerated battery is in place (see page 4), your Vario
Novos will power on when you close the battery door and power
off when the battery door is fully open.
Your Novos are an effective hearing protection device without a
battery, but you will lose ambient awareness.
Batteries
Your Vario Novos use size 10 zinc air hearing aid batteries. These
are available online and on the high street, or can be purchased
at www.variohearables.com.
Battery life
Each battery, if correctly aerated, should exceed 80 hours of
continuous use.
Zinc air batteries degrade over time, regardless of use, and so will
be active for no more than 45 days after removal of the protective
tab.
Leaking batteries can irreversibly damage your Novos and
invalidate your warranty.
Batteries deteriorate faster at low temperatures. 43
Replacing the batteries
Remove the protective tab from the battery.
Allow the battery to breathe (aerate) for two minutes before
going any further. This is very important!
Holding the module, flip the battery door open.
Insert the battery into the battery door with the flat side (+) of the
battery facing out.

Cleaning and maintenance
Your Vario Novos should be cleaned after every use. Wipe the
Novo module body with a damp cloth and sanitiser or
antibacterial wipe. Do not immerse in water.
Remove any debris or wax. Clean the eartips with a damp cloth
and pat dry.
If the filter in the audio spout becomes blocked, sound quality
will diminish. Remove the filter with the tool provided and
replace, positioning a new filter in the audio spout and pressing
against a hard, flat surface (see diagrams below). Do not use the
tool to push the filter into place as it will pierce the membrane.
Do not use your Novos without filters in place.
Additional filters can be purchased from
www.variohearables.com.

Selecting an eartip
Tips that are too big can cause discomfort and be difficult to
insert, whereas tips that are too small may not provide a proper
seal and not provide adequate protection
To find the best fit for you, start with the largest tip and work
down, using the insertion instructions below. Silicone tips tend to
be slightly more comfortable, while foam provides a slightly
better seal.
Try both and see which one suits you best.
Inserting the module into the eartip
Align the edge of the audio spout with the edge of the hole in
the top of the eartip.
Firmly press the audio spout into the eartip, rotating as you do so.
It is a tight fit to aid retention.
7
Storage
Always store your Vario Novos in the storage case provided at a
temperature between -10°C and 50°C. If storing for longer than
30 days please remove the batteries from the Novos to prevent
damage. Leaking batteries can irreversibly damage your Novos
and invalidate your warranty. Batteries deteriorate faster at low
temperatures.
Eartips
Ear canals are sensitive and each one is unique so we've provided
a selection of sizes and materials for you to choose from. It will be
necessary to change the eartips from time to time. Never use a
damaged eartip.
Replacements can be
purchased from
www.variohearables.com.

Removing from your ears
Grasp your Vario Novo and slowly pull away from the ear canal,
twisting gently to break the seal.
Optional lanyard
To attach the lanyard to your Vario Novos, simply slip the silicone
ring over the body of each Novo module. Replacements are
available at www.variohearables.com.

Inserting into your ears
If using foam eartips, roll and squeeze the eartip between your
forefinger and thumb to compress.
Pull your ear up and backwards if necessary. The easiest way to
do this is with the opposite hand, reaching over the top of your
head.
Gently push the Novo (eartip first) into your ear, rotating until you
find the natural direction of your ear canal and the most
comfortable fit.
Allow at least ten seconds for foam eartips to re-expand and form
to the shape of your ear canal.
NB: Never insert the Novo modules into the ear canal without
eartips, or vice versa. They must always be used in unison.
